Doesn't matter. He is the coach and will pick his D type and coordinator. Now if he picked up a good Coordinator that might fix some things...

If we pay him $10 million we have the right to set an expectation about his DC choice

That mindset is a problem. Anyone worth their weight says frick you. I hire my people or your money is worthless

More concerned with Lane's recruiting than defense.
I think everyone would agree you don't have to be great on defense anymore to win at a high level. Probably still need great athletes on defense to make big plays, though.
Gotta be able to move the ball and score points.

Our 2010 championship defense was not great. But they stepped up when someone said its time. Amazing how their down to down defense was not great but the results were championship level.

Exactly. Hire a puppet.

Go back and read what I said. I never said great but good. And yes you need to score points but if a team had a great D they would be tough to beat. You have to have a balance. Otherwise Leach's O would be all that is run in the country but yeah...they are loosing right now...

Oh and what did LSU do a high flying offense today?
If you are looking for program builders might want to take a look at Kstate coach. He has been there for 4 years and they are doing well.
APP state has a decent coach...
But we seem to be stuck on Kiff, Grimes and Prime. There are many other coaches out there that have done a great job but they aren't in the limelight all the time.

For the last 30 years, or whatever time period, all big SEC teams have won at a rate of 10-2 or 8-4, with the exception of Alabama. With a few special years.
Might as well have an entertaining offense. I believe a consistent, capable offense would satisfy a lot of people.
Fed up with Auburn sucking on offense.
Plus a dangerous offense seem to go nicely with the expanded playoffs.

Did I say hire one for him, or set an expectation of the D performing?

Gusbus gonna break down in the Big 12

Sorta the point. 2010 team didn't flinch at being down by this or more. Coach can assist that but you gotta have the team members with the ability to join the group and make stuff happen

What is "great" today? If shutting teams down is 'great' I don't think you can be 'great' today. I just don't think defense is as important these days.
I don't think Leach is great on offense. Just because he throws every down and refuses to run does not mean he's an offensive wizard. Not terrible, not great. Very inconsistent.

We don't make hires like Lane Kiffin, or even Hugh Freeze. We make hires like Jeff Grimes or Rhett Lashlee

No but guys like Kalen DeBoer, Lance Leipold, Curt Cignetti, or even Shawn Clark would be better hires than the cast of characters that have been mentioned. Oh and Harsin has a better record than Freeze (they will be closer at the end of the year). Gus has a better record than Lane.
The wild card is Prime as he is new but I think he would be a solid exciting time and would bring some interesting entertainment and who knows might step up our game.

Oops. Sorry forgot about Kalen DeBoer, Lance Leipold, Curt Cignetti, and Shawn Clark. You're right.
Not a big fan of Prime. Check out a recent video where he makes a reporter look like an arse. (search Prime makes reporter feel awkward). All about himself.

The interview you’re talking about is an ongoing joke between him and the reporter and the full interview shows them cutting up together and I believe Prime gives him a gift.
There are several reasons to be hesitant of Prime, but “he’s all about himself” is without a doubt the dumbest straw man. I got news for y’all, every HC is “all about themselves.” Bama is the direct beneficiary of Saban being all about himself and deciding he was going to be the GOAT.
