I went to that game. I was 13 years old. Our whole family went. Aaron hit the HR in the 2nd inning off of Al Downing. They stopped the game for like a half an hour. Pure pandamonium. What was interesting was that by the 3rd inning almost all the fans had left. Aaron hit the famous HR and the braves still SUCKED. I think the Dodgers won the game, but we didnt stay. It was a monday night and a school night.

I met Hank Aaron several times over the years. I went to HS with his two sons, Henry and Larry. both were a couple years older than I was. both awesome athletes. All state football players.

I also got to see Aaron several times later as I think his attorney was located in the same building I was working in. He used to stop off for a sandwich at the deli in the building. I said hi to him once and after he looked at me funny, I told him I went to school with his sons.

Good friend of mine works for a charity down in West Palm Beach - every spring they sponsor a golf tournament and bring in a celebrity guest. A couple of years ago Hank was the celeb, and my friend (a very attractive and personable 40-something babe, who can actually play golf) was responsible for escorting the Hammer around the course.

Being a lifelong Braves fan going back to the late 60s, naturally I was curious as to what he was like. She laughed and said, "he was great fun to be around, but he's a horny old bastard - he kept hitting on me and asking for my number."

I didn't go to the game, but I watched it with my dad on TV. He loved baseball, and particularly the Braves and Aaron. He died 8 months later and my two best/fondest memories of him are watching Hank beat the Babe's record and the time he came back from business in Atlanta and brought me a Braves batting helmet.

Weird thing, Aaron wasn't my favorite Braves player at the time....I was a Ralph Garr fan...

Rig, when I was at school at AU back in the dark ages, we would head over to Fulton Co. Stadium and go to games because it was so damn cheap. The Braves sucked, and you could buy a bleacher seat for $3 (if I remember correctly) and then basically sit anywhere you wanted to. There were so few fans at the games in august/sept that you could literally have conversations with the players on the field.

I wish it were the same way today. That's one great thing about being in Auburn..you can drive to ATL and back for a game and still get in bed on a regular time.

Luckily they do college student discounts on weekday games so we'll see field level first baseline for $15 a piece. Not a bad deal..what kills is the price of a beer.

Have y'all gone over to any Biscuits games? Pretty damn fun and the times I have been there were some decent drink specials. Tickets are cheap too.

Oh yeah we'll do Biscuits games a couple of times before the semester ends. Riverwalk is an incredible place to take in a game too

Pro tip: when you buy tickets online to a biscuits game be prepared to have your email blown up with promotions.

Me and my buddies did the same.

Hell, we'd go in with cans of beer shoved in our pockets and they wouldn't say a word.
