It's definitely been that way under Gus (Kevin Steele & Greg Brown). Marcello has already said don't be shocked if a name you haven't heard gets randomly announced

Which is why no one should get all excited about the bullshite our insiders post on pay sites. They just regurgitate message board fodder to keep the readers coming back. Basically tell us what they think we want to hear.

Yeah this thread is similar to the official DC search thread.

Then mostly everyone melted in Kevin Steele new DC thread.

Scanned the first page of the KS thread and saw this:

If Lawson/Monty come back, watch our defense improve to around 45-50 nationally and we all praise Steele as a genius
Pretty astute as it turned out. Actually an underestimation - we ended up #28 Total Defense (#24 in yards per play) and #7 Scoring (which is amazing considering we had virtually no offense to speak of for 5 of our 13 games).

I'll be happy with anyone we end up with if they improve our offense in '17 as much as Steele improved our defense in '16.

omg I melted so hard that day. In my defense, I did have many many $8 beers at the Bham bowl.

We waited all this fricking time for Kevin fricking Steele. This is the biggest joke ever. Gus and Jacobs have made Auburn the laughing stock of the SEC.

Why would an established head coach ever do this for the coordinator hire on the side of the ball where they've made their name? I'm willing to be you can't come up with a single example.

That's not how it works. HC is HC, OC is OC.

Only at Auburn does the HC have full control of the offense yet pay an OC 500k /year for their "input"

Gus wants someone he can control another Lashlee / administration wants a real OC and Gus to be HC.

Yurich seems like a nice compromise.

Well that's just false. Mike Leach, Dana Holgerson, Chip Kelly and others have operated the same way. As long as Gus is here I expect to run his scheme. I think what we need is someone to help him continue to evolve it. That's specifically what Yurcich was hired to do at Oklahoma State. Holgerson installed the scheme, Monken continued using it (they literally didn't have a playbook, Weeden taught him the offense) & then Gundy brought in Yurcich to continue building on it

Lol. I'm sure if Jeremy Pruit wanted to scrap the 3-4 tomorrow Nick would just say, "Well I do pay you 500k, go ahead!"

Think for 10 seconds and you can come up with 4-5 more examples in the SEC alone.

If we miss on Yurchic, I say we bring in Weeden.

The quicker you realize not to worry about Auburn's money the better time you'll have.
