Can’t help but feel those late start times are a huge disadvantage. Those games are likely to bump toward midnight or 1 am depending on pace of play. Tough for a team that usually is done playing by the start time for these games.
Dude, these kids are like 18-22 years old, not 60 year old men. Things don't even get cranking for them until close to midnight.

Plus for them their start times on Saturday /Sunday at 7:30 and 7. That’d normal s5art times for baseball. Especially since there are no games in front of them.
It’s us old farts that have to drink lots of coffee for finishing these games

One of us is doing it wrong.

Throwing this out there. And I know you don't have to announce your starters before the game but do we counter their ace with Trace Bright? Not throwing the game but maybe setting ourselves up to have better starting pitching in 2 of the 3 games. I know outside of their ace we have comparable staffs. I think their closer is more consistent then ours as well.
If we hit like we did this past weekend it won't matter but thinking strategy.
I'll leave it up to Butch. but good conversation topic

We will likely set up our staff similar to how we did this past weekend. Bright, Gonzo, Barney.

They might be true.
But I will counter with what if you don’t get to game 3? No knock on Bright but he’s no Barnett. There is a strategy to how you approach teams with a stud starter.

Am I flying into Soviet Portland to get to Corvallis or is there a better airport?

That’s where I am.
If qBright has been your #2 all year and the only reason Butch used him in regionals is bc we were playing the weakest team in our group w 2 other teams we had to be with matchups.
Going against Oregon st against their ace seems to me we are gambling winning next 2.
Do we know what their #2 and #3 pitchers have done?
I’d go strength against strength. And see where we end up after day 1.

something to go on before the weekend
quote:
Oregon State
-155
Auburn
+125
Regional performance is reason for apprehension for Oregon State leading into this series. Outside of a 12-3 win over automatic qualifier San Diego, Oregon State came away from the Corvallis Regional with a -1.67 run differential. On the other hand, Auburn breezed through a tougher bracket with a +10.3 run differential (UCLA, Florida State). In nearly every aspect, the Tigers outplayed the Beavers in their respective regional bracket.
So does that mean bettors should dive headlong into Auburn? They have an implied win probability of 44.4%– not exactly an indictment on them. However, Oregon State rosters a vastly better pitching rotation, playing the top-four pitchers in FIP in this series.

Better mask up when you're there so you don't catch any leftist ideals

That's anthetical to how Butch sets up rotations though. He prioritizes rest and routine over matchups. That's while Gonzo has been our best starter, he hasn't been the Friday guy. Butch wants guys on normal rest and routine for the most part.

Maybe but they also faced a significantly different level of competition.

FIP is awful for measuring pitching to contact.

I would never question Bruce or how he handle pitchers but I would be surprised if he doesn't match Bright up against their Ace. The one with the weird arse name I can't spell off the top of my head
