What kind of scholarship limitations do we have that the other schools don’t?

A lot of other schools have ways to offer out of state tuition waiver and/or alternative non university state funding (e.g Hope scholarship) that effectively serve as scholarships

Most states use lotto or in LAs case I think it is the TAP program. Basically a coach will award everyone not included on the 11 scholarships this option. It gives them an unfair advantage. JJ tried to get this banned a few years ago, but was laughed at. I think Alabama is the only state that can't offer this because of our conservative SJWs.

The best example is Melvin Ray playing football at Auburn. Despite starting, Ray was never on scholarship at AU because MLB paid his schooling due to his minor league contract. Auburn didn't have to waste one of their limited scholarships on him

In a similar fashion, these external non school funded TOPS/HOPE scholarships reduce the need for some players to receive the limited baseball scholarships. This allow LSU to have a higher % of students on scholarship, even if it isn't baseball providing it

Even if they aren’t on scholarship, they still count.

Correct, Ray counted against our 85 man limit even though the university did not pay his scholarship.

This is incorrect

quote:

Wide receiver Melvin Ray is obviously still a part of the team, but he's also not listed because as a former minor league baseball player, the Dodgers are required to pay for his education, although Ray did say in 2013 that he hoped to earn a scholarship with the Tigers.

You both have correct elements in your arguments. Ray initially did not count to football's 85 scholarship limit because the funds the Dogers were paying for him to go to AU made him a walk on. He did eventually count to the 85 limit though because the dogers stopped paying his way to AU either his Jr or Sr year & AU picked up the bill. I can't remember which year but know it happened.

Makes sense on why there is confusion

My point simply is that when outside entities provide scholarship money, it doesn't count towards the scholarship numbers** (as long as certain conditions are met)

My question is, how is UGA baseball always so dang bad with the HOPE scholarship advantage?

Coker is among the best bullpen arms in the country. He's just had a bad weekend.
