That's the thing. We know he can do it, it's just a matter of him getting his head on straight.

It was good to see Lang have a solid night. He didn't look gimpy at all to me

Edit: For anyone interested, Alabama beat USC Upstate 78-61. They also played Coastal Carolina earlier this season and won 70-53

Coastal Carolina is bad this year and we just got hot. Wouldn't look into this win anymore than that.

Good team builder though

I agree, just putting it out there. We played incredibly well as a team tonight. Way more ball movement and actually played good defense (or at least way better than usual). It'll be interesting to see how they play against Mercer after that hot night.

That went about as well as we could have possibly hoped as far as limiting minutes for starters though. We needed that with 2 guys suspended and one transferring.

Yep but what stood out to me is this is one of the first times I have seen us move the ball that much, that consistently on offense. Yes we took an absurd amount of 3s and hit half of em which is something that is not sustainable but in the late in the 1st half and for most of the 2nd I saw team start to do some good things on offense they haven't done a ton of this year like attacking the basket consistenty. That helped our shooting because guys were wide open and catching in rhythm. That's the big takeaway for me

Now we need to show we will do that consistently and not just when everything we throw up goes in. But ya that was an important one for team's psyche

So let's talk DeSean Murray and next year in general for a second. How does this guy even see minutes? Assuming Purifoy returns (which I think we all assume he will unless he continues to AVG 26 pts a game like the past two games.) We have a rotation looking a little like this:

PG: Harper / Mitchell
SG: Brown / Heron (who will presumably start at the 3)
SF: Heron / Lang / Okeke
PF: Purifoy / McLemore / Okeke
C: Wiley / Spencer

He is a 6'4 PF who has no outside game at all - I just don't see where he gets the minutes at PF or SF.

Our depth at the 2 also scares me. Since New basically hasn't played at all this year I assume he is redshirting and planning on transferring out. Really hope we can hit the grad transfer market for a solid SG (I am still regrettably holding out hope for 5* MJ Walker.)

That is a TON of talent. Not only talent, but diverse talent. We may finally have the guys to match-up with a bigger team with a lineup like:

Mitchell
Heron
Okeke / Purifoy
Purifoy / Mclemore / Spencer?
Wiley

I still have hope for this year even though the BC loss is going to kill our RPI and is a very bad loss, just cant help but get excited for next year.

Like this

quote:

PG: Harper / Mitchell
SG: Brown / Heron / Lang
SF: Heron / Purifoy / Lang / Okeke
PF: Purifoy / Murray / McElmore / Okeke
C: Wiley / Spencer / Murray

Murray can play PF/C since he uses his lower center of gravity very effectively. In scrimmages I watched, he clearly understood he can win by leveraging taller but skinnier opponents both on O/D

who has no outside game at all

I would bet money that they are working on that during his RS year. I refuse to believe that an Auburn player won't want to jack up 3s

McLemore just looks so good in his limited minutes. I'd hate to push him further down the depth chart.

He looks good because he hustle's and rebounds well. He has no offensive game at all so Murray would be a huge upgrade in that department.

I think it will change by opponent but I expect most of our post players to get 15-20m to keep them fresh + avoid foul trouble. Then it is opponent specific who slides into what slot

I'd guess it breaks out like this

PG- 25m Harper 15m Mitchell
SG- 15m Brown, 15m Heron 10m Lang
SF- 10m Heron, 10m Purifoy, 5m Lang/Okeke
PF- 15m Purifoy , 15m McElmore, 10m Murray
C - 20m Wiley, 15m Spencer, 5m Murray

By Player

25m - Heron, Purifoy Harper
20m - Wiley
15m - McElmore, Spencer, Murray, Mitchell, Brown maybe Lang
~5m - Okeke

If you look at KenPom stats, Auburn is around top 100 in nearly every category except rebounds where we are fringe 250-300

If we can fix that, we should be infinitely better

Tourney team!!!

We're gonna keep getting better all season long. Stay healthy and we can hang with anybody. UConn and Oklahoma will be interesting tests.

The Mercer game just got a lot more interesting. I hope that translates to more butts in the seats.
