I don't want to fire Pearl
He's the best we can get at AU.

His best is just frustrating as hell to watch for a true basketball fan. I'm sure to the casual fan it's fun to watch but man we are sloppy as hell and undisciplined.

Pearl obviously wants to boatrace people with superior athletes. I'm just going to have to learn to like this instead of wanting to see a cleanly played game with defense and execution.

I am tired of teams having lurch centers that dominate us in the paint. Why the god do we not recruit someone taller than 6'8". Also hard to get a offensive rebound when there is absolutely nobody under the basket when we shoot the ball.

They are well coached, just not the style you're used to. Watch the press they ran. Outstanding face guarding and ball denial. They do a good job of getting in the passing lanes. This style doesn't look disciplined, because it's a hectic tempo. They're not Princeton. They play the style that suits them based on the talent they have.

They are awful on team defense and knowing their rotations. I hope it is more a sign of their youth and the effect of AAU basketball. Purifoy especially seems clueless on his help defense responsibilities. This is basic stuff that they are certainly being coached to do and just not getting it.

I don't think you guys realize how bad the state of auburn basketball was before Bruce came in, or at least y'all are forgetting now. It's a 4 year rebuild job and he's just now starting year 3. Unless you're UK, Duke, UNC, etc who bring in 5 stars every year who are one and done players, it takes time to get the youngers guys playing at an elite level. We will make the NIT this year and the big dance next year and every year after that with Bruce. Y'all see the finish line in sight now and not a damn one of you is patient enough to keep chugging along instead of sprinting to it. I hate the saying because it's Saban's, but trust the process. It works.

I'm not bashing Bruce. I doubt we can do better. I just want to see competent basic defense. I understand the youth issue and mentioned it in my post.

A lot of bad there although I don't think totals tell us anything. Might as well post something positive since you hit every negative.

8th in forced turnovers at 18.75 per game.
31st in blocked shots per game.
15th in turnover margin at +5.4 per game
14th in steals per game at 9.4

So it's not all bad.

There are some positives as you mentioned but I focused on the things that usually win you ball games or in our case lose you ball games.

Our competion is about to get a lot harder. It will be interesting to see if we get better or worse.

Offense definitely needs some work, but we aren't going to be running many half court sets with the pace we try to play and it looks awful when we do anyway. I think a lot of it is going to be a "feel" thing that we'll get better at by playing more together. There's too much ISO going on right now which is shown in the poor assist numbers. People are just going to have to get used to watching that kinda offense. Athleticism is our advantage and we're going to have to use it.

I also hope that guys can figure out where to be on defense and stop ball watching. We get beat on backdoor cuts way too often. The turnover advantage is what Bruce has always tried to create, so we're starting to run his system now. Just need some bigger bodies inside to help with rebounding because that's the most glaring weakness we have right now.

Horace Spencer and Bryce Brown have been suspended tomorrow for being arrested for misdemeanor possession. Length of suspension "to be determined".

May be good for Brown to miss some time. Losing Spencer will hurt. Guess Mclemore will see a lot more time or either Waddell.

That's okay... we can totally afford to lose our best inside presence

Maybe Spencer is out just Coastal + Mercer, Wiley is eligible and slides into his minutes for experience. Then for OU/UConn we get both

We have no room for error. After BC, we must beat either OU or UConn to get back on track for NIT.
