All this sets up for is Gatewood being in a short leash. As soon as he makes a mistake the masses will want Nix.
We wanted Gatewood to play last year when Stidham was sucking it up on the field. Didn't happen

We finally have a legacy QB who is really fkn good and we want to sit him for two years and let a guy who couldnt even win his HS Qb position outright play?
Take whatever lumps there may be giving Nix two years worth of game experience so we can have him championship ready for two additional years.
Hell, Gatewood cant even separate himself from a true freshman.

Why not start the best player? Who cares if someone is a legacy?

How many times do you have to be told? Bartram's HC always plays multiple QBs. Doesn't matter if he had Peyton Manning. He would still play multiple QBs. But you bet your arse that if the game was on the line, Joey was taking snaps. And he was such a scrub. That's why he was invited to and won MVP for the UA All-American game.

Yeah, he's a legacy. But Joey committed to Auburn his 9th grade year and stuck to it, even though everyone in the country wanted him. Why didn't our legacy go ahead and commit to Auburn earlier and wasn't helping recruit for his class earlier?

Look Patrick "ChexMix" Nix, no one cares that your son is a legacy. I want the best QB to play.
And like I said previously, Gatewood allows Gus to run his ENTIRE playbook.

I mean if Nix is that good and Gatewood is that bad there is no controversy.

So much for “Nix is a legacy QB who is really fkn good”

Look, I get all this. We have an HC who has proven in the past to not be the best judge of QB talent - especially from the aspect of being game-ready and capable of handling the pressure of being #1.
And we can blame Gustav all we want for not picking the "right" guy to lead the team. But the fact is, when he's been right, the results have been phenomenal. We're talking best-in-SEC-history level production.
And now we have a new QB coach who, we are led to believe, is being given full rein on evaluating the players we have on the roster. Whether or not this is actually true is a matter of debate (which I'm sure we'll do ad infinitum on this forum, just like every other semi-controversial topic).
But, for better or worse, we're ultimately just observers in this process. Both Gatewood and Nix appear to have plenty of talent to shine in the offensive scheme we saw against Purdue. We've got more than enough talent in the skill positions to succeed, maybe even at a 2013 level - IF the OL is up to the task.
And that's a YUGE "if". In the end, it may not matter which QB is 'better' unless we get quality play from the guys in front of them. And that's what will determine the story of AU 2019. I'll reserve judgement on the QB battle until after we see what shape our starting OL is in come late August.

Gus has been running his entire playbook this whole time. His playbook just sucks

Dont jump on the bandwagon when Nix takes the helm.

You say dumb shite like that when not a single poster has said Nix wasnt good. They are very close IN PRACTICE. Nix has never taken a single college snap amd Gatewood has never taken a meaningful snap. Why dont you pump the brakes and take about 20% off there bud. Lets just see how it plays out. Hell the both may fall apart under prrsdure and Willis end up being our guy by September. Whoever it is I will get behind and support at least until they give me a reason not to.

That’s true, I forgot that Stidham was running 10-15 QB power plays a game. I’m tripping...

Gus has not had a QB to run "his" offense since #14 headed off into the sunset. Anyone who thinks he has is just a dumbass
