He had been a silent commit for a long arse time mainly.

Bailey, Yates, Castle are all guys we seemingly had a lead for recently that other teams swooped in and snagged. Then you’ve got the Scoot situation where if NIL is announced a year earlier we likely get him.

The first 3 I think left because specific people connected to them being at the schools. Ace especially sucks considering the pipeline we had to McEachern.

Yeah I just don’t count on anything like that in the NIL era I guess

Ace Bailey to Rutgers. I have no idea what has been up with our recruiting lately, but we are def struggling a bit right now.

What in the world. We should be signing 2-3 top 50 players a class with the way things have been going lately for the program. There’s no excuse for the poor recruiting as of late.

Someone else posted this but a good summary of recent misses even past Scoot and Green:

Nick Smith - miss
Jarace Walker - miss
Julian Phillips - miss
Yohan Traore - luck of the draw (no impact anyways)
Chance Westry - will be fine next year
Aden Holloway - nice get
Baye Fall - miss
JaKobe Walker - miss
Stephen Castle - miss
Wesley Yates - miss
Ace Bailey - miss

Really is too bad. We don’t have another final four caliber team on the horizon.

That’s pretty typical of Bruce Pearl recruiting for the last twenty years of his career and college basketball in general. You miss on more of the high profile guys you are mentioned with than you get. Nature of smaller rosters/less schollies. Roster is solid this year and we have blue chippers coming in each of the next two classes already

I follow this stuff decently close but was never under that impression, where is this coming from? I wonder if beat writers just saw Mcceachern and assumed it was a done deal

I guess I’ll have to make a trip over to Macland rd and drop the bag off. Don’t need that mceachern pipeline to go south. Bruce has gotten any mceachern prospect he’s wanted going back to trae golden at Tennessee

Apparently a few people came out after the commitment and said he was silent to Auburn and that this was a surprise

This team, who most people would say they are disappointed in compared to preseason expectations, just moved up to 16th in the AP poll

I understand this team has it's limitations and is frustrating as hell to watch at times but I hope you all are finding a way to enjoy the golden era of AU hoops. I genuinely think, as of right now, if Bruce retired or whatever at the end of the season we would immediately suck again.

shite, if anyone is finding disappointment in where our BB program is currently at, I would invite them to revisit our history of nothingness not that long ago.

I think our only shot at staying relevant after he retires is keeping on in the AD at some level to help transition to a new HC. Whether that’s him helping get a high level coach or advising Steven if he takes over.

Agree with that. Also think we have to be with Adidas or Nike. The promised new basketball-only facility needs to be done. A little more juice on the NIL side is key.

I think we can get there but if he left right now we'd basically be back to square one. And I think we are likely on the back half of the BP tenure at Auburn. He showed up at age 53 and is 62 now.
