Auburn to receive crucial last official visit before top target makes decision (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn will receive Wanya Morris’ last official visit

As Wanya Morris closes in on his decision, the Auburn-Tennessee battle is as heated as ever.

“It’s really close,” Morris told SEC Country.

The 4-star tackle from Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.) put out his top-2 list last month and hasn’t wavered from that. The Tigers and the Volunteers have recruited him heavily since, and he’s taken multi-day unofficial visits to both. His most recent trip to the Plains two weeks ago gave him extra opportunity to get to know coaches and players at Auburn.

It has helped the Tigers make a move.

“It’s just something about being there. I got to know the coaches more, some of the players. I feel really comfortable when I’m there,” Morris said.

Until that point, Tennessee was the favorite to land Morris. The Volunteers remain a major factor with two weeks remaining until his May 1 decision.

But Auburn has made it interesting.

In fact, Morris will take his official visit to Tennessee this weekend. Morris originally planned for that to be his final official visit, but his most recent trip to Auburn changed things. Now, Morris told SEC Country he’ll officially visit Auburn the weekend of April 27 — the final weekend before Morris announces his commitment.

That timing is important for Auburn. The Tigers will have the final opportunity to persuade Morris.

Perhaps the biggest factor playing in the Tigers’ favor: Center Jakai Clark.

Clark is Morris’ teammate at Grayson and committed to Auburn last week. Clark and Morris are close — really close. One source close to the situation told me that, prior to Clark’s recruitment taking off with Auburn, Tennessee was a clear favorite to land Morris. It has moved much more toward a 50-50 competition since the Morris three-day visit and Clark’s addition to the Tigers’ class.

Cordale Flott, Auburn’s most recent commit, reveals which coaches secured his pledge (SECCountry)
quote:

Cordale Flott knew it was time.

He’d just wrapped up his Florida visit, after which a few reporters wrote that the Gators were his leader. But after every visit Flott took, he kept going back to the same school, the same position coach.

“Every other visit I took, I would leave thinking about my bond with [Auburn cornerbacks] coach [Marcus] Woodson and how Auburn felt like home. That’s why I knew I wanted to choose Auburn,” Flott told SEC Country. “Well, me and my family got together Monday night and sorted things out — the pros and cons of what’s best for me and the family, as well. We chose what was best for me, and that’s Auburn.”

Flott has only been to Auburn once, but it was a weekend-long trip. He spent most of the weekend with his parents — along with Woodson and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele.

Flott knew two weeks ago that he was close to choosing the Tigers, when he told SEC Country that Auburn and Alabama were both 9 out of 10 on his scale. After his last weekend visit to Gainesville, however, Flott said his choice came down to Florida and Auburn.

The Tigers edged out the Gators because of one buzzword Flott used multiple times: home.

“Florida was really great; it’s not to take away from that. When I was there, I enjoyed everything about it as well as I enjoyed Auburn,” Flott said. “But I narrowed it down to those two and felt basically like Auburn felt like home for me. Auburn felt like home and that really stood out to me.

“Florida was a place that I had a really good time. It was enjoyment. Auburn was more family and business, to me.”

Woodson wasn’t the only Auburn coach to whom Flott has grown close.

The 6-foot-1, 165-pound prospect from Saraland, Ala., originally came to know Auburn through Steele, who recruits the Mobile area. Steele’s straightforwardness from the first time Flott met him helped put the eventual Auburn cornerback commit at ease.

“Coach Steele, he reminded me daily that everything don’t revolve around football. They remind me to be a more spiritual person. They want to raise me to be a student-athlete, a young man and the best leader I can be away from the football field, too,” Flott said.

“It was more relief as the recruiting process goes along, as coaches pressure me every now and then, or someone telling me what’s best for me. It’s good to get things like that out of the way. It’s much more relief than anything.”

Will Jakai Clark’s commitment help Auburn land teammates Owen Pappoe, Wanya Morris? (SECCountry)
quote:

When Jakai Clark committed to Auburn, he was inundated with questions about his two high school teammates, Owen Pappoe and Wanya Morris.

That hasn’t changed.

Clark has been referred to as the voice of reason on the Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) football team. Several coaches close to Clark have said he’s the leader among leaders for the Rams. Auburn is hoping that helps with Pappoe and Morris.

Clark hopes the same.

“Obviously I’m going to try to get them here. If I can do that, I’m going to do that,” Clark said. “Me, Owen and Wanya, we all talk. I’m not going to spill anything. But, yeah, obviously Auburn is one of Wanya’s top 2. Auburn is one of Owen’s top 3 or 5. We’re all very interested in Auburn. I’ll just say that.”

Since Clark’s commitment last week, he’s been active on Twitter recruiting for the Tigers.

My thoughts on Clark’s commitment: I expect it to have an effect on Morris. I think Pappoe’s decision will be unaffected either way.

Clark and Morris are close. Obviously, they play different positions along the same high school offensive line. It’d be a good fit for the Tigers, who are in major need of a tackle. With Morris trending to Tennessee, it was vital for Auburn to grab another advantage in this recruitment. Clark helped that in a big way.

Why next 2 weeks, good or bad, will determine tier of Auburn’s recruiting class (SECCountry)

Next two weeks will determine tier of Auburn’s 2019 class

Two weeks from now, Auburn coaches will have a much better picture of the Class of 2019.

Good or bad, on May 2 the Tigers have the opportunity to be the hottest team in college football recruiting. There’s also the possibility Auburn spends that day searching for backup plans at a few key positions.

Between now and then, a few key recruiting happenings are set to take place that will play a big role in the future Auburn class.

Weekend of April 27

This weekend marks the first big piece of the puzzle.

Auburn will host two key visitors from southern Georgia on unofficial trips: cornerback Jaylin Simpson and safety/receiver Jashawn Sheffield. Simpson could commit to the Tigers on that visit, and it wouldn’t be much of a surprise. Sheffield, while calling Auburn his leader on the last trip to the Plains, seems a little more interested in waiting to see his recruitment play out. That trip will be meaningful regardless. Simpson and Sheffield have built a strong relationship with 5-star linebacker Owen Pappoe through the recruiting circuit. Pappoe is the No. 7 player in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite.

That same weekend, Pappoe’s high school teammate, Wanya Morris, is scheduled to take his official visit to the Plains. This is a crucial development. Originally Morris planned to officially visit Tennessee on this weekend, meaning Auburn likely would not receive an official visit before his scheduled commitment on May 1. Morris has altered that plan to give the Tigers his last official visit. That’s important, no matter how you slice it.

Morris won’t be the only official visitor that weekend. Three-star tight end Luke Deal of Greenwood, S.C., has his official visit set to Auburn that weekend. It will be his fourth official visit in three weeks, coming off of stops at Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State beforehand. Auburn is a serious threat to pluck Deal from Clemson, but that official visit will dictate a lot.

Big May 1 announcement day

This is the big one.

On May 1, four Grayson High (Loganville, Ga.) players — Pappoe, Morris, Kevin Harris and Kenyatta Watson — are scheduled to announce their college decisions at 6 p.m. in the same location. Pappoe and Morris are the two that Auburn fans will watch most closely.

Auburn has generated most of the buzz for both prospects since their three-day visit two weeks ago. That gave Morris and Pappoe an opportunity to get to know the Tigers coaches on a more personal level. In fact, this whole spring, Pappoe and Morris have taken several hush-hush visits to the Plains for 1-on-1 time.

Pappoe is expected to take official visits the next two weekends to Penn State and Texas. He’s likely to squeeze in another Auburn and Georgia official visit in there somewhere. Morris is scheduled to go to Tennessee and Auburn on official visits before announcing his decision.

If Auburn can land both players, it would be the biggest recruiting wins for the Tigers in a long time and will set the tone for a possible top-5 class to come. If the Tigers miss, it will force the staff to reassess the class in a major way.

Flott '85 percent' committed to Auburn (Rivals)
quote:

Saraland cornerback Cordale Flott committed to Auburn on Tuesday, but his recruitment isn’t over.

Not completely.

“It’s probably around 85 percent that I’m committed,” Flott said. “I feel really good about Auburn, but my recruitment process is still open.”

So why did Flott commit?

“My family, we all got together and felt like Auburn would be a nice place for me to commit to before spring or to commit for good,” he said. “I feel like Auburn is the best place for me and where I would fit best.”

Flott plans to take other visits. He has an official visit set to Arkansas June 8-10 and plans to take official visits to Texas A&M and Louisville, although dates have not been set.

Florida also remains in the mix. Flott visited Gainesville last weekend.

“It came down to (Auburn and Florida),” Flott said of his commitment. “I weighed the pros and cons of both schools and both have nice facilities and football programs, but I felt like Auburn is a great school for me and my family, for getting to the games and staying close together.”

Flott will take an unofficial visit to Auburn “maybe next week” and return later in the process for an official visit.

KN posted update on 4* OG Keiondre Jones yesterday. UF has apparently made a move, so much so that their mods CB'd him to the Gators. Big reason is his cousin is Emory Jones who recently signed with UF. They are apparently close. KN still thinks AU will have a big say in where Jones lands in August

KN also has VIP update on 4* DE Charles Moore last night. He's currently committed to Mississippi State but AU making a push to flip. Says AU is his #2 school but also admits if he had to pick a school to sign with tomorrow he would ask for another day. He really likes Garner & said that even tho he's committed to MSST he feels at home at AU. Apparently our coaching staff gave him a nickname (Rue Rue) & says it speaks to how they treat you like they've known you for years. Plans to return for Big Cat Weekend on June 2nd

Honestly didn't realize we had made such a big move with this kid. He's close with 4* DE Jaren Handy so that would be a nice pair to snag out of MS

Pickens is expected to be at Bama's spring game this weekend. Also a chance some AU targets like Amari Kight, DJ Dale & even possibly Clay Webb could commit to Tide this weekend. They are expecting a bunch of commits

Kinda hope he goes ahead and gets it over with so we aren't fed a bunch of false hope at the end of the recruiting cycle.

Even if he does commit to Bama he still plans to take a number of visits to AU so the false hope may still be there.
