I thought hype was overblown for him during that Pinson Valley game. He was hitting wide open WRs against a team with inferior talent. I think he's a bit of a project but outstanding upside
With that said, having Nix come in this year it's gonna be hard to get another elite QB. I like Ashfords upside and would love to land him next cycle

Felt the same way... if you switched qbs in hat game, Ashford would really struggle with Pinsons talent.... nix otoh, would be unstoppable with all day to throw and having Hoover’s skill position talent.
Nix is a cut above ashford... but that’s not to say he couldn’t be a really successful college qb in the right system (not under Jim Chaney tho).

During the UA practice Cubelic was talking to Nix and asked him what it was about Malzahn’s offense that made him choose Auburn. He said it was the run and pass aspect and that he felt like most people are underestimating his running ability.

I like Ashford, but anyone could look good throwing it to Pickens in high school games.

I liked what I saw from Ashford as well, but it will be interesting to see how he does next year when he isn’t able to just throw it up to Pickens all the time.

Under Armour All-America Game live recruit updates (SBNation)
quote:
George Pickens was impressed by Auburn’s bowl win, but Ohio State and LSU are pushing.
Four-star Alabama receiver George Pickens remains committed to Auburn. He is extremely tight with Auburn QB signee Bo Nix, and Auburn remains the favorite to land his signature. Pickens also said that Gus Malzahn told him that he will be calling the plays in 2019, as he did in the bowl game.
But Pickens also remains tight with LSU, and is looking hard at Ohio State after the Buckeyes recently reached out. Pickens said that he is impressed with Ohio State’s passing stats and is likely to take an official visit.
I think Auburn is likely to keep Pickens.

Akeem Dent says commitment to Florida State is strong, but likely to take visits
FSU five-star cornerback commitment Akeem Dent described his commitment to Florida State as “strong,” but he is considering visits to Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, and Miami. He says that Alabama has dropped off some. Dent officially visited Florida State before the ESP.
Dent said that he knows where his mom wants him to go, but won’t say. Why not? Because she and him “are on the same page,” and it would give away his final decision, he shared with a smile.
I think FSU has a good chance to hold on to Dent due to his comfort and familiarity with the staff and campus.

Under Armour All-America Game: Stock report for practice No. 3 (Rivals)
quote:
Bo Nix was just Bo Nix. He has really separated himself from the other quarterbacks after three days of practice. He just has command out there with teammates he has only been working with for three days. He was on time much of Wednesday, he threw some beautiful deep balls and most observers on the sideline were talking about the Auburn signee making an impact on the Plains next fall by the end of the day.

Also KN had an interesting update on Jashawn Sheffield. Sheffield said that both SCAR & FSU were negatively recruiting AU hard which did cause him to wonder whether signing early with the Tigers made sense. From the VIP article:
Also confirmed Gus wants him to start off on offense at WR
quote:
“I got on the phone with Gus,” Sheffield said. “I talked to him three times that morning. He told me, ‘It’s alright, I’m not going anywhere. Jashawn, I promise you.’ He was just telling me that the only reason they were doing that was to get me riled up. They probably lost a recruit or needed me to fill in. Gus told me I will be there the whole time. There were a bunch of things I did see with both schools. They kind of shook me off. That’s what made me think that Gus was right on this one. Gus told me, ‘Why did they recruit you and then stop for a long time? He was on me the whole entire time.”

Under Armour All-America Game: Teams that should be pleased (Rivals)

3. AUBURN TIGERS
Auburn signee Bo Nix has been the best and most consistent quarterback at the event by a wide margin. And while he hasn’t been perfect, Nix has spent the first three practices making throws the other quarterbacks in attendance simply could not. Nix operates with an aura of confidence and has the arm strength to go with it. Wide receiver George Pickens has backed up his five-star ranking this week, as he’s managed to stand out in nearly every drill and competition. Pickens is the type of rare prospect that could be a major part of the Tigers' offense from the moment he arrives on campus.

THE STORYLINE
George Pickens has been committed to Auburn since the summer before his junior season. He remains committed to the Tigers. But the five-star receiver from Hoover, Ala., opted not to sign during the early period, and many other programs are trying to flip him.
There is LSU - and Pickens showed up to the Under Armour Game registration wearing LSU and Georgia wristbands. Georgia is making a serious push. New Ohio State coach Ryan Day is making Pickens a bigger priority. The five-star has talked about Florida, Tennessee and others as well.
All of that could mean something, or it could mean absolutely nothing. The Hoover standout took a recent visit to Auburn that went really well. He is close with Auburn five-star quarterback commit Bo Nix. Going to play for Gus Malzahn could mean he’d be the featured receiver in that offense from day one.
Is Pickens serious about these other programs and these other visits? Or is he playing a little bit of the recruiting game here, and he’ll eventually end up at Auburn after some interesting drama?

FIRST TAKE: JEFFREY LEE, AUBURNSPORTS.COM
“People often forget that Pickens was Auburn's first commitment in the 2019 class, committing to the Tigers in July 2017. I expect him to continue taking visits and flirting with other colleges, but ultimately honoring his long-lasting commitment to Auburn.”
He gone

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM
“It depends on if he takes the visit to Ohio State and how much he likes it because the Buckeyes can change anything. Even without Urban Meyer, Ryan Day is a very good recruiter, that offense is just explosive, and that’s what he wants.
“LSU is interesting because he really likes LSU a lot. He liked his visit there a lot. He’s been wearing LSU stuff, not just at the Under Armour game, but everywhere. So a lot of people think LSU is the one that would steal him away from Auburn. I would think he’s so tight with Nix that he’s going to stick with Auburn, and those two would be a great combination.”
I actually agree with Mike here on Ohio State being the biggest threat. Pickens keeps talking about wanting to play with a great QB. He doesn't seem to like Fromm & hasn't talked much about LSU's situation. If Fields though lands at OHST that could make this one interesting
I still think he sticks but sure there will be plenty of drama over next few weeks

Some info on stud, Charles Moore:
“The 4-star lineman from Louisville (Miss.) opted not to sign in December, and Florida has suddenly entered the picture, with Auburn and LSU still in hot pursuit. Tennessee, which seriously recruited Moore over the summer, has reopened its line of communication, too.
With so many options, Moore told VolQuest his commitment with the Bulldogs is currently on shaky ground. “Right now, it ain’t looking too good for them right now,” the Under Armour All-American end said. “My mom is starting to win my dad over. They think it might be good for me to get out and grow up a little bit because they’re not going to be able to baby sit me my whole life. If I have problems, versus being 15 minutes away in Starkville, you have to stay there and handle your business on your own. Be a man and grow up.”

My fear with him is he won't be on campus again over the next month. Definitely think AU might be his top team right now but he still has three OVs to go on
But that connection with Handy might prove huge. He's been killing it this week in Orlando. Handy, Moore, Wooden, Hall & hopefully Cox would make for a heck of a DL haul this cycle. Cox is a true NT while Hand/Moore are the combo DT/DEs who can play all across the line while Wooden & Hall are pass rushers
