Malik will be a square peg in a round hole in this offense that were are running. He is just not a fit. He would be perfect for the previous offense.
Uh.... It's the same offense...
The difference is we don't run a ton of read option with Stidham & instead use RPOs. When Malik was in we ran read option. But all the same base concepts are there: Power, Inside Zone, Counter, Buck Sweep. Yes some plays get called more with certain players & others less but that doesn't make it a completely different offense
Hoping they let Malik air it out some in blowouts. We've basically seen him twice as a passer at spring games. First time he was impressive, 2nd time he was not. Don't really like judging based on spring game anyways
Next year's 2019 QB race is gonna turn this board into even more of a shitshow

Damn . Pretty harsh for a high 4 star QB who's been on campus a couple months.
Meh, not really... some people in the industry had their reservations.
The same people said the same things about Woody Barret and turned out to be right.

Which is what Im saying. If he is allowed to run the 2013 offense with Run first options, he will be more of a fit than the current stuff with all the swing passes and screens. He would be better in a pure run / Read option.

I believe what he was getting at is we throw the ball a lot more now.

2016- RB1 42.3% Other RBs 57.7%
2017- RB1 56.6% Other RBs 43.4%
This can be misleading though. Hell, 2016 it was evenly split because one back was hurt half the season and then the other the rest. You can have an even split but run one into the ground the first half of the season and the other into the ground the second half when the first is injured.
The biggest problem is that we don't use our younger guys in meaningless games. compound that with the fact you know your RB1 has injury issues in those years, running them late into blowouts is just stupidity.

If people would learn to discuss things without getting their feeling hurt, it would not be a shite show. But I agree.
Maybe TT will get his wish and Justin Fields will love him some weed and come on over soon

Fair enough
Tho I didn't see Willis run any of the quick screen stuff for the most part. When he came in game we went most read option or just basic power/iz stuff. I wished they would open things up a bit more with him. Let him have full reign so he can really get his feet wet

Joey Gatewood has enough QB ability to not write him off. It will be between him and Nix next year.

We absolutely do with Stidham. We did not when Willis came in

Joey's biggest problem is gonna be Nix imo. Gatewood needs some time to develop but he might not get it fixed Nix wins the job next year
I'm a big Gatewood fan tho because the ceiling is tremendous

There is no way you can write him off yet. He is a very big guy with lots of ability. WE have zero idea how good he will be until we see if he can run the ball or not.

Exactly. Not sure why Marcello is already trying to write him off.

You would think at this point, "Auburn people" would not write off or crown any incoming QB until we see what he can actually do
Bo Nix is getting all the love right now. Lets see what that kid can do on the field after he gets Gus training. Same with Gateway and hopefully Willis
I admit I have some ties to Willis (sorta) and it appear we should be using him somewhere. He is a great kid who is easy to coach and very athletic. Pulling for him for more reasons than just seeing #14 wreck shite again

FTR, I’d rather not have a TF QB starting. Inexperience and incomplete grasp of the offense aside, it would mean the talented QBs above couldn’t get it done. I would seriously question the quality of our two deep much less the whole depth chart. If he does start right away, I hope our offense is loaded similar to Hurts and Fromm’s TF years.

I have detailed files. Comes with age.

I bet Gatewood is light years ahead of Cam at the same point. Writing him off seems silly...honestly having to much faith in any QB before he proves he can do it in a college game seems an imprudent play.

I will need to check.
I hope Gatewood and Nix are good as advertised and can beat out Malik but for now, he is my horse.
