Teo things about recruiting. 1 You have to recruit based on your needs and 2, you have to keep up with your competition. Although we seem to be having a solid class in some areas we are falling short in areas of need regardless of why. I worry about both lines and running back. We have recruited good players not elite and thats what gets you to the championship. But great that qb position is looking good.

We got to the championship in both 2010 and 2013 with less talent than we have right now. And we're recruiting at a higher level now than at those times.

Are you really concerned with our DL recruiting?? As many have stated, OT is a concern now but we are very much in the mix for quality RBs.

So this year they are letting players pick the teams at the UA All-American Game. One of the team's two captains? Owen Pappoe & Noah Cain

Didn't stop Coolio Jones from being a 5*
Didn't drop easy passes at Foley in the games I watched which were quite a few.

Bottom line is if Hoover makes GP a focal part of the O he should be a 5* if rated fairly. The thing I worry about is ESPN rankings. They are 1/3 of the composite but usually the most stringent about making quality jumps with recruits once they are rated. See TD Moultry a couple years ago.

I wasn’t suggesting that we are doing bad. To the contrary I commend the coaches on what appears to be an all out effort. But too often we end up #2 for elite recruits esp rb. We have lots of goid RBs but I hope we land an elite one meaning Cain. My second point in the post was keeping up with our competition.

Fair point.

Sharing a state with a program at an unprecedented recruiting level, with a lot of ESPN help, and with what Kirby has pulled off so far in our other supply line state, the last thing to complain about is Malzahn and the staff’s recruiting results. We have more talent overall now since probably 2005ish??

Disagree. It is our Malzahn's job to beat UGA at least 50% of the time and to beat Saban at least once every 3 years or so. I accept no excuses. They are our biggest rivals. If we need better recruiting to beat them, then so be it. Is it realistic? I don't know, but I am an Auburn fan.

But your talking coaching - not talent and recruiting.

And I think we are doing a good job ‘keeping with the competition’ in recruiting. Bama is in its own universe and UGA had an elite class after NC appearance in a state that’s top 3 in talent. Sucks they are our two main rivals so I understand the sentiments but looking at college landscape as a whole, we are recruiting at as high a level as we have in a while.

Couldn’t have said it any better. Coaching is a whole other topic..

Last I checked Malzahn Has beaten Saban more than jus about any other coach out there..

We are in good shape all things considered. Not perfect but our staff is busting arse in the most hyper competitive environments to our left and right since around 1980 with Dooley and Bryant winning titles in consecutive years. We should and have to demand that our staff does its job to compete for titles and hold it's own with anyone in the country and they are doing just that IMO. We laid two serious arse whippings on bama and uga last year. Physical double digit arse whuppings.

I like one of our recruiting pitches right now a lot. Come to AU and be a part of dethroning bama and Saban. Cause we are going to. We close the talent gap just a bit and we will beat their arse down on the field just like last year.

I would say we need better player development & retention. And those things are realistic, more so than consistently out recruiting UGA & Bama. Just my .02.

Ya they gonna reel in Emery soon who is my favorite back in this class. Are loaded at DL already and a major threat to beat us out for Derick Hall

Moorhead has proven to be a very good recruiter early on
