Eh, I mean, it’s a pretty natural reward/punishment mechanism that our brains are very tuned to. Evidence suggests that even something as simple as receiving a text message is enough to give a little burst of dopamine, signifying a reward in an operant learning context. I’d argue that an upvote is much the same - rewarding enough to both feel good and act as a reinforcer for future behavior.

That being said, you’re probably right in that one should ideally just ignore it. Obviously I mostly have, given my up/down ratio on the poliboard .

That’s what I was about to say.

I have no studies but I’m convinced you can also control this.

Yeah, in a manner of speaking, you could control it. Top-down control over the reward circuitry is something that is easier for some people than others, but it’s certainly possible with practice. Removing the reinforcer, I guess, would equate to ignoring the voting bar while posting.

It’s the same brain network that’s essentially hijacked by addiction, so it’s clearly pretty powerful - especially for certain people.

Read somewhere (???) that F'book meters-spreads-out your thumbs up so that they happen over time instead off all at once. It's some type of Pavlovian reward thing that sets the hook for keeping you hanging or dangling around. Not sure about down votes maybe we can ask E?

Exactly. Be proud that someone takes the time to downvote you.
When the post is just info it's stupid as hell. Don't put dislike for me before the love for AU.

Wasn't rustled. Just made a statement. I don't get the childishness of it but at the point what ever.

He provides great info, just doesn't come across very well at times. Too thin skinned too. If you criticize too much, he'll take his ball and go home.

I say we test this theory. It would be a great board discussion. Send me your number, Rocky and I will send you some texts. Let us know if you get that burst you are talking about,

Never has been why I have left at times. Just try to stop recruiting from becoming a big part of my life. Obviously I have royally failed. Lol
