Top 5 class? Also if we drop Fuqua and RJ could we add two more to this list? Maybe smoke and the TE from New Jersey

Top 5 class?

Doubt we get top 5 class as it would take a perfect finish. But for fun of it I put in Randy's finish above & AU would have a class score of 287.19 so ya there's a possibility of a top 5 class. Not likely tho but we can dream

I think AU is already operating under belief that Fuqua grayshirts. That means AU has 6 spots left. As for Jibunor, I think he still signs with AU. Obviously if AU decided to move on that would open a spot. My guess is AU would turn heat up on Caleb Tannor

quote:

My guess is Smoke is a backup plan for if things go really poorly. Meaning AU has 1-2 spots left because of missing on other targets AND KJ/Pettway both declare. I don't see him in this class. I do think it's very likely we take Alaimo. AU wants a TE & he's the prototype of what Lindsey is looking for

I think 3 of those things happen in Walker, Gouraige & Schwartz. As of today my predicted finish is Schwartz, Alaimo, Gouraige, Goss, Walker, Franklin. Really hoping we replace Goss & Franklin with Barnes & Joseph but not ready to believe just yet

Quay Walker, a 4-star Alabama linebacker commit, declined interviews for the second day in a row as Auburn, Florida and Georgia are trying to change his mind on the Tide. From all I’ve heard in Orlando, I’m having a hard time projecting him to end up in the Tide’s class when National Signing Day rolls around. Alabama is doing what it can to keep him in this class, as the staff believes he has the ability to play any linebacker spot in the Tide’s 3-4 defense. He’s that good.

LINK

Kirschner tends to be late when it comes to predicting kids not going to Bama. He hung onto Martin & Miller committing to the Tide until really days before so fact he's saying this is a really good sign. The question is how real were those UGA rumors over early signing period. I am thinking if the Felton to AU rumors are true we land Walker

Take a look at Auburn commits/targets who will participate in Under Armour All-America Game (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn commits in Under Armour All-America Game

Here are the three Auburn commits — two already signed — who will participate in the Under Armour All-America Game Jan. 4 in Orlando, Fla.

4-star defensive tackle Coynis Miller
4-star safety Quindarious Monday
4-star quarterback Joey Gatewood

Miller is the only one who will have to field recruiting-related questions during the event. He chose not to sign during the early signing period. He’ll wait until February so he can take a few visits in January, potentially to Tennessee and Oregon. Miller doesn’t seem like a threat to flip, but those questions will be asked this week.

Monday and Gatewood have both signed. Gatewood remains a few weeks away from enrollment, but Monday has already participated in a few bowl practices with Auburn. Monday is a prospect who will likely have to contribute as a freshman, so I’ll be interested to hear his take on the early stages of his Auburn career.

So uh Matthew Hill is also at this game....

Auburn targets in Under Armour All-America Game

Here are the six main Auburn targets who will participate in the Under Armour All-America Game.

5-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere
4-star offensive tackle Richard Gouraige
4-star linebacker Quay Walker
4-star offensive tackle Dylan Wonnum
4-star wide receiver Justyn Ross
4-star wide receiver Anthony Schwartz

There’s a heavy emphasis at two positions: offensive line and wide receiver.

Along the offensive line, Petit-Frere, Gouraige and Wonnum will be there. Those will be three of the five offensive tackles (Jalen Goss and William Barnes are the others) Auburn will pursue heaviest in January. Gouraige and Wonnum have been on campus regularly during the 2017 season, but the Tigers will work hard to get Petit-Frere on campus for the second time.

At wide receiver, Ross and Schwartz will be emphasized. Ross is the state’s No. 1 prospect who is destined for a National Signing Day choice between Auburn, Alabama and Clemson. Schwartz is set to make his college choice during the Under Armour All-America Game, and Auburn appears to be the team to beat.

Walker remains committed to Alabama, but Georgia and Auburn are going to push for him down the stretch.

5 biggest Auburn misses in Under Armour Game

Here are the top-5 targets Auburn missed who will participate in the Under Armour All-America Game.

5-star quarterback Justin Fields
5-star defensive end Brenton Cox
4-star wide receiver Kearis Jackson
4-star quarterback Emory Jones
4-star linebacker Teradja Mitchell
The top 3 — Fields, Cox and Jackson — all ended up at rival Georgia, so that hurts. With that said, Auburn had Gatewood to fall back on, which is a luxury most programs didn’t have in the Fields sweepstakes. Jackson will feel like less of a miss as Auburn’s stellar wide receiver class unfolds. Cox didn’t show the Tigers much love throughout the process, but he visited a few times before his initial decision to Ohio State.

Jones flirted with Alabama and Auburn late in his process before ultimately choosing Florida over Florida State. It’ll be interesting to see some of the motivations behind that decision.

Mitchell was one of Auburn’s early linebacker priority prospects. With the linebackers Auburn has in the class, it’s not a terrible miss, but it’s one the Tigers can look back on and wonder.

Take a look at Auburn commits/targets who will participate in U.S. Army All-American Bowl (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn commits in U.S. Army Bowl

Here is the one Auburn commit — already signed — who will participate in the U.S. Army Bowl on Jan. 6 in San Antonio, Texas.

4-star cornerback Christian Tutt

Tutt will hold down the fort as the lone Auburn commit in the game. When February arrives, Tutt hopes he won’t be alone. The 4-star Tigers cornerback signee — who is soon to enroll and participated in bowl practice — plans to be an active recruiter in the final month of the 2018 recruiting cycle. He has his eyes set on a few uncommitted prospects — mostly named below — who could add to Auburn’s class.

Also, Tutt will have the opportunity to match up against many of the nation’s best prospects. Tutt’s recruitment has been a roller-coaster ride that has seen him at the top of rankings and seen him drop in rating at times. This will be a nice bookend to his high school career, as a final measuring stick against the country’s most elite athletes.

Tutt told KN his mission is to recruit Kelvin Joseph to AU. They played on same 7v7 team & are buddies

Auburn targets in U.S. Army Bowl

Here are the four main Auburn targets who will participate in the U.S. Army Bowl.

4-star offensive tackle William Barnes
4-star linebacker JJ Peterson
4-star cornerback Kelvin Joseph
4-star running back Harold Joiner

Don’t be surprised to see all four take official visits to Auburn in January.

Joiner and Peterson were campus regulars in 2017 despite their varying interest in the Tigers. Barnes and Joseph haven’t been at Auburn much, but that is likely to change in the final month of the recruiting cycle.

Barnes is one of the four or five offensive tackle targets that Auburn will recruit heavily in January. Joseph has looked like an Alabama-LSU battle throughout the process, but Auburn is making a push because of its major need for immediate cornerbacks. Peterson has been a tough read, but Jeremy Pruitt’s departure for Tennessee makes the Volunteers the new favorite. And Joiner is an in-state talent who Auburn will at least stay in touch with in the final stages.

Expect several more updates from these four main targets.

4-star offensive guard Trey Hill
4-star tight end Luke Ford
4-star linebacker Channing Tindall
4-star cornerback Jayln Armour-Davis
4-star cornerback Kyler McMichael

The first three — Hill, Ford and Tindall — will go to Georgia. Armour-Davis signed with Alabama, and McMichael is inked to Clemson. That’s three of Auburn’s biggest rivals, so it’ll hurt the Tigers to see those five talented prospects suit up elsewhere.

These weeks are a good opportunity to take a look back and find out why certain prospects chose their respective schools over Auburn. Anticipate some updates from these prospects and more.

Still pissed we lost Armour-Davis

Recruiting question of the day: Who is Auburn recruiting to replace Chandler Cox? (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn coaches and teammates have repeated the statement often the last two seasons, and as cliche as it sounds, there’s a lot of truth to the statement: Chandler Cox is an irreplaceable part of this offense.

I’ve been asked a few times in the last month — and again above — how Auburn plans to replace Cox when he graduates and leaves the Plains. That remains a year away, so the problem doesn’t have to be solved during the 2018 recruiting cycle. It can wait until 2019, if need be, but it’s something the Auburn coaching staff has monitored throughout the year.

Things can change, but for now, if Auburn does something at H-back, it likely won’t be with a scholarship spot in 2018.

One initial option was Noah Ford, the older brother of top tight end Luke Ford, who Auburn offered a preferred walk-on position at fullback. Ultimately, Luke committed to and signed with Georgia, which eliminated the potential for Noah to fulfill the Chandler Cox-type role for Auburn.

There’s another preferred walk-on option Auburn has evaluated this year, Reggie James IV. He’s a 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker/fullback hybrid from Gainesville, Ga.

James only holds scholarship offers from programs such as North Carolina Central and Stetson. Places like Georgia Southern and Colorado State have entertained him, as well, but haven’t given scholarships yet.

But there’s a possibility he plays Power-5 football. Miami and Auburn have both offered preferred walk-on opportunities, and James told SEC Country he’s “definitely interested” in the chance to play big-time football at a big-time school even if it’s not as a scholarship player at first.

Larry Porter has made a few trips to see James at Chestatee High School, and it’s made an impression on him. This recruitment will obviously go differently than it would for a scholarship player, but it’s something for Tigers fans to keep an eye on since the position has an important role in the offense.

Ranking the QBs from Day 1 at Under Armour AA practice (247)
quote:

It's a cliche but in most all-star games, the defense is always ahead of the offense on the first couple of days of practice. That looked to be the case today as the offense as a whole lacked flow and rhythm.

In judging the quarterbacks, it has to be said that no one really had a great day or separated themselves from the pack. The margin between the top few guys was pretty small and at different times today, we had a different quarterback we liked best overall.

With that being said, here’s our ranking of the six quarterbacks, based solely on today's performance and we’ll be updating this after each practice.

quote:

2. Joey Gatewood, St. Augustine (Fla.) Bartram Trail- Auburn

Gatewood is a huge quarterback and had the strongest arm today by a solid margin. He's solid mechanically as well and throws a nice ball with an effortless release. His accuracy wasn't always as consistent as we'd like to see but there is some definite upside with Gatewood and he'll be intriguing to watch the rest of the week.

Under-Armour All-America: OL/DL 1-on-1s (247)
quote:

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- 247Sports was on hand during the initial practice ahead of the Under Armour All-America Game, where cameras were isolated in the trenches during one-on-one competition. See some of the nation's top linemen work against one another to kick off the week.

- Miller looks decent. Lost some & won some others. This will be a good week for him
- Robert Cooper is freaking huge
- Man I would love to swoop in & get Petite-Frere. Dude is going to be a stud at the next level
- Mustipher was the clear top DL in those drills
- Bama commit Tommy Brown sucks
- Gouraige looked solid. Will need to put some more weight on that frame
- Pretty sure Wonnum is gonna need some time before he will see the field at OT. Feet look slow in pass pro which shouldn't be a surprise considering the offense he played in high school
- LSU commit Cole Smith looked pretty bad

KN put up an insider on AU targets at Army All-American Game where rated on a scale of 1-10 how confident he is AU lands them. FWIW not very posibarner...

4* OL William Barnes - 4.5/10, apparently AU sources think it will end up an AU/UNC battle. His mom is a Tar Heel alum so that could be a tough one to win. UF will still be a factor

4* CB Kelvin Joseph - 2/10 but rising, Top 3 of AU/BAMA/LSU with Joseph admitting that AU is recruiting him the hardest right now. KN tho thinks AU is running 3rd right now

4* ATH Harold Joiner - 2/10, says this is hard recruitment to ready & he's all over the place. It might come down to how bad LSU wants him. He wanted to commit at this game but has since postponed. Apparently Malzahn speaks with him twice a week but has not really specified what position he would play at AU. Will take OV to AU

4* LB JJ Peterson - nothing mentioned as Peterson won't arrive until today

Interesting Malzahn seems to have taken a lead role in Joiner's recruitment. My guess is he is gonna try & sell him on a Mario Fannin/Lutz hybrid role where he lines up in backfield to carry ball & block but also flexes outside & used as a TE/WR hybrid

John Garcia of 247 gave some observations on AU commits & targets

Commits

4* QB Joey Gatewood - Top arm on Team Spotlight & was ranked the #2 overall QB after day 1. Wowed those who have never seen him up close with his size. Started slow but as day went on got more consistent. Impressive arm strength but also flashed some good deep ball accuracy in 7v7

4* WR Matthew Hill - Did really good job of getting open in 1v1 & showed great explosiveness. However, sounds like he had some issues with drops as day went on

4* DL Coynis Miller - Says this was most consistent Miller has looked in a competitive setting. Praised his effort & quickness also said was most impressed with athleticism in tight spaces.

4* S Quindarious Monday - Garcia said he had best performance among AU commmitment despite strong outings by Gatewood & Miller. Said he looked like someone who already has some SEC practices under his belt. Lots of confidence & has great range.

Targets

5* OT Nicholas Petite-Frere - Great frame & athelticism. Very quick to the point of attack. Very high ceiling & despite this being his first real recruiting event looked like he knew what he was doing

4* WR Justyn Ross - Looked good in out & out of his breaks along with displaying strong, steady hands. However, didn't get many looks later in the day

4* WR Anthony Schwartz - Proving to be more than just a speedster. Worked mostly underneath & Garcia said looked more polished than several other WRs

4* OT Richard Gouraige - Praised his athleticism & ability to defend against speedy edge rushers. Mentioned needs to improve his hand usage and do a better job handling bull rushes

4* OL Christian Meadows - Not a great first impression for Meadows. Played with poor leverage & defenders were able to get under him & knock him off balance

4* LB Quay Walker - Said usually LBs don't stand out in practices like this but Walker did. Physical specimen who excels at reading a play & reacting. Also praised his speed

4* OT Dylan Wonnum - Apparently he had some of the best battles in the trenches & won more than he lost. Athletic on the edge but also praised for his patience. Wants to see more of him Monday

4* CB Olaijeh Griffin - Never was really beat by anybody and has the skillset to both make plays in the air & be physical with wideouts.

4* WR JaMarr Chase - Did not participate due to a minor injury

Under Armour All-America Game Highlights: WR/DB 1-1s Day One (247)

- Copeland is a beast. I know he seems to be a bit of a headache to recruit but wish we had stayed on him
- The first round of QBs were awful...
- Griffen looks like a stud. Not getting my hopes up on a Cali kid but man would love to reel him in
- Holy crap Hill can't catch... Seeing now why Clemson wants him as a DB...
- Wish could have seen more of Schwartz. He looked good in that one route. Excited to see him play Wednesday
- Monday is so freaking long. He moves well for that size. Gonna need to put some more weight on that frame but he's gonna play next season

Well it's painfully obvious that landing at least 2 of those O-lineman is desperately needed... the O-Line got whooped today in the bowl game. I don't know if it's hand, blocking scheme, or the players but something has to change there asap.. If Calvin Ashley doesn't live up to the hype we might be in trouble next year.

Also I think Smoke Monday starts at safety next year. If not the beginning of the season he will be by the end.
