Newkirk basically says that if AU wants Gibson they can get him. He's trying to get Savion Smith to come too but isn't confident it will happen (Bama)

We are not going to miss anything by not signing Fields.

Gatewood is going to be better than him in two years from now.

If this was true, why would our staff and everyone else in the country choose fields over gatewood

Just like how everyone said White > Lamar Jackson? Yeah, that recruiting rankings coming out of high school is always right.

The best player in two years will be the one that gets the best QB coaching. The jury is still out on that happening under the Gus regime. But since only one of those guys really wants to be at Auburn I'm #TeamGatewood.

We'll see in a couple years I suppose.

Neither is likely to play much barring injuries for that long anyway.

I mentioned that I am not claiming that JF isn't going to be good. But, since JG is our guy, I'm rolling with him!

I just want to be on the record that I never said that.

Now back to the program

Some VIP updates on recruits that visited this past weekend

3* CB Keith Washington
MICH transfer just started talking with AU and came away really impressed after the visit. Apparently he's Bubba's cousin and if AU were to offer would definitely change things for him. AU is still evaluating him as a CB option. Mentions he has offers from West Virginia, UAB & Middle Tennessee State. Would have 2 years left to play 2 and wants to go somewhere he can get on the field early

3* TE Michael Parker
He's a Bama legacy so admitted it was weird at first being on AU sidelines but "warmed up" to it by end of game. Says he talks a bunch with Chip Lindsey, Larry Porter and Tim Horton. Also was impressed with AU's offense. Says his top 3 are AU, Purdue and UCF. However, he's waiting to hear from Bama as well and admits would be hard to turn them down if they offered. Does not plan on signing early but will instead wait until February

FWIW I think we turn the heat up on other TE targets since it's clear this kid will wait until the end for Bama offer. Just go ahead and go all in for Tyneil Hopper and let this kid either go to Purdue or Bama

4* WR Justyn Ross
Says AU rolled out the red carpet for him Saturday and said Malzahn emphasized how big a need he was for team. Gus also said QB future really bright at AU and they need WRs. Stidham even stopped by during warm ups to chat with Ross. Ross says AU is showing him a lot now after slow start and liked how they used so many WRs. Says AU is still a major player in his recruitment. Reason he decided to visit AU this weekend instead of Bama as originally planned is because hasn't attended AU game this year while has seen Bama & Clemson. Also fact Burns was at his game Friday helped. He will officially visit all 3 schools and plans to commit on NSD

4* WR Matthew Hill
Hill admits the Clemson offer has him intrigued. Said UGA offer doesn't mean anything. Clemson wants him as a safety. However, he claims he's still solid and calls Auburn home. Loves how AU's offense has improved and how we are throwing deep. He plans on taking all his official visits to AU, Bama, CLEM, LSU & SCAR. Hill would rather play WR than S but says that if he thinks S is his best shot at the NFL then he would switch

I think CLEM is a threat here, especially if season were to go sideways for us at any point. If we finish strong and passing game keeps looking explosive, I think he sticks. He grew up an AU fan

4* LB Quay Walker
Walker says AU defense shocked him with how fast and aggressive they looked. He was in locker room after game to celebrate and spent the night in AU. Says he plans on coming back next week for Ole Miss game and wants to bring his mom along. Admits his commitment to BAMA right now is 65-70%

How Auburn commits, targets fared in their high school games this weekend (SECCountry)
quote:

There were several bye weeks among Auburn targets, but several players still managed to post standout performances.

Joey Gatewood continued his strong senior season. Shaun Shivers picked up where Asa Martin left off. Quindarious Monday put forth another highlight-worthy performance. Richard Jibunor almost single-handedly secured his high school team’s victory over the weekend.

Check out the best performances among Auburn targets and commits.
