Will either be us or LSU. Still not sure if he's a take yet but if so I think we get him

He's a 3* but just not sure if we would be willing to take him, Coynis Miller and Breiden Fehoko all in one class. That's a lot of DTs in a class but we will see. Plus Miller is far from a lock so might not even matter

Tigers offer Oklahoma State commit (247)
quote:
Auburn's search for a tight end in the 2018 class has taken the Tigers to Texas.
They offered 3-star recruit Nic McTear of Frisco, (Tx.) Heritage on Friday, the No. 27 tight end in the 247Sports rankings. He's also an Oklahoma State commit, having pledged to the Cowboys on Feb. 6.
That remains to be seen, however it's worth noting Miami, Baylor, Houston and now Auburn all have offered since he made his commitment.
Auburn plans to sign one tight end in the 2018 class. The Tigers have offered nine of them.

State of Alabama’s top defender Jalyn Armour-Davis adds Alabama to Auburn’s competition (SECCountry)
quote:
Armour-Davis reconsiders Crimson Tide
Don’t count out Auburn’s biggest rivals for one of the top players in the state, Jalyn Armour-Davis.
The No. 1 defensive prospect in Alabama released a top six list recently sans the Crimson Tide, which came as a surprise to many given the priority Nick Saban showed to Armour-Davis on National Signing Day.
There appears to be a slight amendment to that list.
SEC Country Alabama writer Chris Kirschner spoke with Armour-Davis, who cleared up some confusion about the Alabama-less list.
“Bama is still in the mix,” Armour-Davis told Kirschner. “I just realize my opportunity.”
The Crimson Tide rarely miss on the top in-state prospects, so for the top defensive player to not include Alabama in his top six was startling, to say the least. Armour-Davis now will be one of many prospects in the state this season — Justyn Ross, Andres Fox, Seth Williams, Coynis Miller and others — who will be courted by both sides of the Iron Bowl rivalry.
Auburn made the list, and the Tigers will be in the race until the end, which is likely to end sooner rather than later. Armour-Davis received his first offer from Auburn, which he’s mentioned repeatedly as an important factor for his final decision.
The addition of Alabama to the mix, while unexpected, adds some intrigue and complicates Auburn’s chances.
DB high on Auburn opts to lay low
Auburn defensive back target Jordan Miner will make a stable, calculated decision. He wants to take all five official visits, which will include one of the programs he ultimately commits to and signs with. The cornerback doesn’t want to do interviews during the recruiting process because he doesn’t want to lead any fan base astray.
Miner revealed this message through a now-deleted tweet, but that falls in line with his approach at the Under Armour camp in Orlando a few weeks ago.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback went about his business without much vocal interaction. He broke up pass after pass in 7-on-7 drills thanks to his lanky frame and impressive recovery speed, which showcased itself in a top-eight finish of the iLLSPEED agility competition.
At this time, Auburn is likely to be one of those five schools to receive an official visit from Miner, though it’s unofficial and Miner doesn’t appear likely to say publicly when those visits will ultimately take place.
The 4-star cornerback has offers from Florida, Auburn, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina and a handful of others. Once he narrows down to his official visit list, Auburn likely will be in good shape.
Offer to a tight end
There’s been a lot of talk this spring that Auburn’s offensive usage of tight ends will change under the leadership of offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. That remains to be proven on the field, but the recruiting evidence is starting to pile up.
The Tigers have extended several tight end offers during the 2018 recruiting cycle, a few post-signing day. Auburn sent out another on Thursday to Jacob Warren, who also has offers from Tennessee, Duke and Ole Miss.
Warren is a 6-foot-6, 215-pound tight end from Knoxville, Tenn., so the Volunteers are the natural favorite.
It’s still telling that Auburn, since the hire of Lindsey and Larry Porter, has revved up tight end recruiting efforts. Here’s Warren’s highlight tape below.

Updated class of 2018 state rankings: Calif., Ga., boast top QBs (Rivals)
quote:
ALABAMA BACK IN BUSINESS
After not having a five-star in the Class of 2017, the state of Alabama is back with newly-minted five-star Justyn Ross as the state’s No. 1 player. The wide receiver is a priority target for both Alabama and Auburn, fitting consider his standing in the rankings. Overall, Alabama boasts an abundance of talent, including the state’s No. 2 player, four-star quarterback Jack West. If the Stanford commit holds his position through the cycle, he will be the highest-ranked signal-caller from the state since Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston was No. 1 in 2012.

Also the odd thing about Porter is neither 247 site for AU or LSU have really brought him up at all. Usually when a kid tweets he's gonna commit there's at least a brief article talking about our chances but neither team site has discussed his announcement at all

3 DTs, one being a grad transfer, in one class is a lot?
Especially given we only signed two modest ones last year?

Three is not a lot. You cannot have enough D linemen. If we are more picky than LSU, we are fricking stupid.
Definitely when I read just a few days ago that we only plan on signing 22-23 again. WTF.

It's a lot when you aren't gonna lose any in the next class. We will probably rotate 5 guys next season at DT - Russell, Brown, Williams, Jackson, Cowart. Then we signed 2 more last cycle and there's still Johnson (though not sure he will ever be healthy enough to play). If we signed 3 this class then we would have 11 DTs on campus for 2 spots

Sounds great. Now metaphorically put all 11 in a circle and make them fight for the top two. That's how you get better.

I would rather use 1-2 of those spots elsewhere like safety where we are extremely thin

I would too but hell, if our staff is only signing 22-23 per kneibuhr, those available spots are still there for the using.

Auburn target Timaje Porter sets commitment date, narrows options (AL.com)
quote:
Theodore defensive tackle Timaje Porter has set his commitment date and narrowed his choices.
The 6-foot-3, 320-pound rising senior will decide between SEC powers Auburn and LSU at 10:45 a.m. March 24.
Porter narrowed his choice to five in January, but he has now eliminated Florida, Michigan and Penn State from that list. He will attend LSU's junior day next Saturday. He's already been to Baton Rouge five times in the past year.
"I really like the atmosphere there," he said of LSU. "I love game day at LSU - the culture overall, the food, the music. It's just a wonderful place to be."
However, don't discount Auburn. Porter has been there seven times in the past year.
"I like it up there," he said. "I like how everyone talks about family, and it really feels legit. I like (defensive line) coach (Rodney) Garner a lot. He bounces around at practice with a lot of energy and is very interactive with the defensive linemen."
Porter said when he returns from his LSU visit next weekend, he will talk to his parents and coaches and pray every night before making his final decision.
Why make his decision now?
"I just feel like it is a good time," he said. "I'm ready to get it done before spring practice so I can focus on my final year at Theodore."
A second-team Coastal Alabama All-Region selection, Porter finished his junior year with 57 tackles. His coach, Eric Collier, said his senior year can and should be better.
"He didn't have a great junior year," Collier said. "He knows that, and we've talked about it. He realizes he needs to get in better shape and be stronger. He just wasn't as good last year as he was as a sophomore. But he's had a good offseason. He's always been really mature, and now he has become a good leader."
Collier thinks Porter has a high ceiling in college.
"I think at that level he is a noseguard in the 3-4 defense, but it also wouldn't surprise me if someone moved him to offense," Collier said. "He has a good upside and the best thing is he is an intelligent young man and understands the game of football.
"Obviously, Timaje has plenty of athletic ability as well but when you get to the next level everyone has a lot of great athletes. The question is can they get on the field and understand what the coaches are trying to get done? Timaje can do that."
Porter said he has three main goals for his final year at Theodore - make the National Honor Society, win state in football and when the individual state title in the shotput.
He is ranked as the 12th best senior recruit in Alabama, according to the 247 composite rankings.

LSU recently offered him. Personally I like Joiner more than Asa Martin but it sounds like Martin is Lindsey's guy

KN says 4* OT Tommy Brown and 2019 5* QB JT Daniels are planning to visit AU on April 20th. The two are visiting both AU & Bama. Brown's dad is a Bama grad and the Tide are considered one his leaders but AU really likes him so are going to give it a shot. Daniels doesn't have an offer yet and hard to see a QB from California coming to play at AU especially with us honing in on Bo Nix but never hurts to get a visit
