Clemson 247 reporting Kyler McMichael was on AU's campus this past weekend. He apparently spent the night with Darius Slayton. He was expected to go to the Bama/FSU game but apparently that's not gonna happen instead he's going to Clemson and will be there for AU game as well. Also says that he told CLEM staff he is solid with them. The CLEM writer seems to think things are looking good for CLEM keeping him

Mixed messages there. Dude takes secret visit to AU but is still considered solid to Clemson? I think this is far from over especially if we got to Clemson and beat em in front of McMichael

Edit: Someone asked KN if still thinks AU has a shot and he said he does

Doesn't Coach Dabo have some stupid rule that his commits can't visit other schools?

Who's prediction?

ETA: Ross isn't that much of a surprise, considering where we are with Williams. Fields, I think we all know what unless we perform well on the field, he will go elsewhere.

Won't need Ross as much when we get Seth.

Yeah but like for most coaches it doesn't apply to elite targets/commits much.

Wiltfong says 2020 WR Dazalin Worsham is planning on visiting AU this weekend. He's the early #1 player in the state for the 2020 class

JUCO football started last night. Daquan Newkirk's team Mississippi Gulf Coast beat Itawamba. MGCC has got a ton of familiar names including Torrance Gibson (who had a huge night at QB), Savion Smith (former LSU CB), Landon Rice (lead the infighting begin again) and Isaiah Washington (another former LSU player). Can't find any stats yet on how Newkirk did

Auburn recruiting mailbag: Asa Martin’s impact, best-named Tigers (SECCountry)
quote:

Here is the first recruiting mailbag of the 2017 season with Auburn recruiting reporter Benjamin Wolk. This will be a weekly feature at SEC Country.

Tweet your questions to me: @benjaminwolk. Or, comment during my weekly Thursday recruiting Facebook Live chat. Those are the two best ways to get your question in the weekly mailbag.

Without further ado, ask away.

Aaron Willing (Facebook): What makes Asa Martin such a great addition?

It wouldn’t have been right to start this off with anything other than Asa Martin.

He’s the No. 10 running back in the nation. In his season-opener Friday, he carried the ball 10 times for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns, including scoring plays of 1, 41 and 61 yards. Martin only caught 1 pass for 12 yards, but his team won, 47-7, and didn’t need to get cute offensively. When Austin (Ala.) needs it, you better believe Martin will get involved in the passing game.

That’s the No. 1 reason Martin’s pledge is so big. He’s a perfect fit for what we’re told the Chip Lindsey offense will look like for running backs. At IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), in half a season, he nearly eclipsed the 400-yard mark rushing and receiving. He brings a slot-caliber catching ability and hard-nosed running prowess.

Among Auburn’s targets at the position, Martin and in-state athlete Harold Joiner have the best receiver-type instincts out of the backfield.

But reason No. 2 for Martin’s commitment being vital might be as critical as reason No. 1.

Whenever Auburn can beat out Alabama for a mutually desired in-state prospect — to borrow a phrase — it just means more. Sure, the running back depth chart at Auburn provided a more favorable early opportunity to see the field, but that didn’t mean Alabama was after Martin any less.

This was a situation where both programs wanted Martin, and as the end approached, both felt like they were going to land him. In the end, Auburn did.

It’s a win for talent, but perhaps more importantly, it’s a win for pride and momentum.

Jon Morgan (Facebook): Who’s next?

Richard Jibunor.

Someone else could come on campus for this weekend’s game and get excited enough to pull the trigger, but I think it might be a couple of weeks before you see another Auburn commit. The staff is dedicated to the 2017 season right now because that might be the best recruiting sales pitch the Tigers have.

Jibunor doesn’t want this decision to drag. He wants to take a visit to Florida to make sure he knows where he wants to go. If he can make that trip soon, Jibunor’s decision could be on the horizon. For now, Auburn and Tennessee are the teams to watch, but I like the Tigers here.
