Colquitt County 26, Vista Murrieta 7 (MoultrieObserver)
Both Colquitt backs (Leggett & Edwards) are guys to keep an eye on in 2019 and 2020
quote:
MOULTRIE – Daijun Edwards rushed for two touchdowns, and the Colquitt County defense now has a stingy reputation that will stretch from coast to coast.
The Vista Murrieta High Broncos, the first-ever California school to go up against the Packers on the gridiron, scored only from a turnover in the fourth quarter Friday on Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium. Edwards had 120 yards on 11 carries, and Cam Singletary caught five passes – one for a touchdown – for 89 yards in Colquitt's 26-7 win.
Though it may be an overall younger team, the 2017 Packers of coach Rush Propst are enjoying much better fortunes than last season by starting 2-0. It's a string they will look to continue next Friday at home against the team that went into the weekend No. 1 in Georgia's Class 6A, Tucker.
One week after Norcross High only had 122 total yards in falling to the Packers in Atlanta, the defense led by coordinator Mo Dixon unofficially allowed just 125 yards to Vista Murrieta. Dixon's guys didn't get the six quarterback sacks as in the Corky Kell Classic but did get to sophomore Robert Coleman – making his first varsity start – two times. Jay Ward intercepted a pass in the second half, and JJ Peterson looked like he was over his injury issues with some hurries and a few hard hits as Coleman got the football away.
The Broncos only tallied 85 yards passing and 40 on the ground. They did not get a first down until late in the first half and ended up with three to go with a 16-0 deficit on the scoreboard.
Ty Leggett of Colquitt rushed for 75 yards on 14 carries.
Including the scrimmage game prior to the regular season, the Colquitt offense is 3-for-3 in scoring on the first series of the game. The Pack marched 80 yards in 10 plays to lead 7-0 with 8:34 remaining in the opening period.
Quarterback Steven Krajewski connected on passes to Singletary and Edwards for 16 yards to get his team to midfield, then the fancy footwork of Leggett – with his patented cut inside to go sideline to sideline – went 31 yards to the Bronco 15-yard-line. It was 3rd-and-12 when tight end Josh Hadley caught a pass on the 10 and Vista Murrieta gave the hosts half the distance on a penalty.
On second down from the 1, Edwards ran the 'Wild Hawg’ to score his first touchdown. Ryan Fitzgerald kicked the PAT.
Three-and-out. Three-and-out. Three-and-out. That about describes the offense for Vista Murrieta for most of the first half. Defensive back Camari Louis made the main stops on the first two drives. He was on Khalil Shakir after a tunnel screen catch to take away two yards. When the first quarter – and the third Bronco drive – ended, Dante Moore and Brian Merritt stuffed the run of De’Vion Sneed for lost yards.
To start the second quarter, Shakir took a direct snap but had nowhere to do on third down, thanks in part to Louis’ finishing tackle.
Colquitt’s second drive of the game had three first downs, two of them converted on play-fake runs by Krajewski for 13 yards. Fitzgerald tried what would have been a school-record 52-yard field goal but was wide left.
The Packer offense did not get a first down on the next two touches, but they could confidently rely on the defense to get the ball back. This three-and-out had the Broncos at 2nd-and-1 only to see lost yards thanks to Kaleb Dawson and Marcus Anderson.
In the first half, Colquitt converted third down five times, three of those coming on the series that upped the lead to 14-0. Krajewski found Singletary for 11 yards on 3rd-and-7 at the Pack 34 while Leggett handled the manageable 3rd-and-1 rushing to the 46.
On 3rd-and-3 at the Bronco 47, Singletary went over the middle and hauled in Krajewski’s throw on the 35. With room to operate, he outran everyone to the end zone at 4:24 until halftime. Fitzgerald nailed the PAT. Krajewski, for the game, was 9-for-19 passing for 118 yards.
Merritt, following his 2.5 sack game vs. Norcross, made it 3.5 on the first play of the ensuing series. In punt formation, Vista Murrieta gave up two points on a snap out of the end zone at 3:02 (16-0).
Vista Murrieta’s longest first-half drive took the game into halftime, eight plays that would move the football over the 50. Coleman had six completions in a row, but on the final play Peterson introduced himself in a violent way.
The Broncos hurt themselves numerous times in the second half, 45 yards of offensive penalties alone. They had first possession and didn’t take long to get a first down, but the holding flag and a sack from lineman Kree Herring took it all away and then some.
Singletary had 53 yards in punt returns in the second half, but Colquitt also made a few untimely fouls. The senior wideout spotted his team on the VM 34, but holding on the next snap backed it up 10. Fitzgerald tried his second long field goal, 45 yards, but came up short.
The next punt return went to the Packer 49. Though Krajewski suffered a sack on the 43, he gave the football to his sophomore teammate, Edwards. He went right tackle, and the blocking work of everyone from Kamaar Bell to Kameren Barnes to Jerick Davis and William Rykard sharing the job at center to Tyler Howard paid off with a 57-yard touchdown play. Fitzgerald went 3-for-3 in PATs for 23-0 at 4:43 of the third quarter.
Ward’s interception, on the CC 9, came seven plays into the next Bronco series, and Coleman felt the rush of Peterson in getting off this ill-fated throw at the 51-second mark.
In the final period, Vista Murrieta ended the shutout taking a fumble inside the Packer 10 across the goal line at 6:44.
Still up 23-7, the Packers used 10 plays and defensive pass interference to convert two more third downs and score the game’s final points. Edwards had 25 yards rushing, and from the VM 21 Fitzgerald made the 38-yard field goal with 2:18 to play.
The game couldn’t end, though, without Coleman feeling one more vicious pop from Peterson as he threw.
Both Colquitt backs (Leggett & Edwards) are guys to keep an eye on in 2019 and 2020

Central-Phenix City 33, Bob Jones 7: Red Devils roll in top-10 showdown (AL.com)
Demontrez Brown is an interesting looking prospect. 6'3" 200 lbs and committed to Arkansas State
quote:
Central-Phenix City scored on its first two drives of the night, but it was the last two of the first half that put the game away as the Class No. 2-ranked Red Devils beat No. 8 Bob Jones 33-7 at Garrett-Harrison Stadium on Friday night.
Central's offense had 425 total yards, 283 by the first team in the first two quarters. Bob Jones finished with 181 total yards.
After stopping the Patriots' first offensive possession in three plays, the Red Devils drove 57 yards in eight plays to take a 6-0 lead. Amontae Spivey scored on a 6-yard run with 7:30 to go in the first quarter. The extra point kick was blocked.
Central's second scoring march took eight plays and covered 70 yards with Amontae Spivey scoring on a 25-yard screen pass with 4:02 to go in the first quarter.
After Bob Jones used a 56-yard reception by Demontrez Brown to get its first big play, and he later caught a 13-yard TD pass to cut Central's lead to 12-7 with 2:14 remaining in the first quarter.
Neither team managed any more points until there 2:38 tog go in the half when Central capped a 69-yard drive with a 3-yard TD run from Jamaar Spivey. Pete Parrish then connected with Kylin Brooks for a 2-point pass to make the score 20-7.
A little over two minutes later, Central went 50 yards in seven plays with Jamaar Spivey taking the football in from 6 yards out for the final points of the first half with 26.5 second to go in the half.
"Central is a championship caliber team and we have a long ways to go," Bob Jones coach Kevin Rose said. "I'm glad we played somebody of their caliber. Now we go back and evaluate where we are and move on. By the end of this season I expect us to have a good football team.”
Central had a 59-yard touchdown pass play called back on a penalty in the third quarter after Central removed its starters.
Then the Red Devils marched 76 yards in seven plays for the final points of the night, a 2-yard run by Joseph McKay. Zach Johnson's extra point made the final score 33-7.
Central receiver Justyn Ross, the state's top prospect, caught two passes for 33 yards. The rest of the Red Devil receivers caught 11 passes for 120 yards in the first half.
"We made some mistakes tonight and we will go back and try to correct those things,” Central coach Jamey Dubose said. Overall, though, I think we played well on offense and defense. The big plays tonight we called back because of penalties. We blew one coverage that allowed their receiver (Brown) to get open. We're just going to keep plugging and see where we can get before this season is over.”
Central will be at home next week to play host to Fairfield. Bob Jones will take on Austin.

Greater Atlanta Christian cruises past Westminster in matchup of top-10 teams (GwinnettPrepSports)
quote:
NORCROSS – The highly anticipated battle between a pair of top-10 teams in Class AAA turned into a one-sided affair as Greater Atlanta Christian rolled to a 41-7 win at home Friday night over Westminster.
GAC, ranked No. 1, led 13-0 at the half and steadily pulled away in the final two quarters to dispose of the ninth-ranked Wildcats (0-2).
“We had a couple of self-inflicted things that got us off pace but we didn’t fall off track,” GAC head coach Tim Hardy said. “Defensively, when you’re pitching a shutout, it gives your offense more time to play. We’re learning to play situation football and we’re learning through experience.”
GAC (2-0) nearly handed Westminster its second consecutive shutout, keeping both the running and passing games in check.
Westminster finished the night with 134 yards rushing and 106 passing with the bulk of that coming in the fourth quarter against the Spartan reserves.
GAC struck first on the game’s opening possession, going 48 yards on nine plays with Robby Fowler ending the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run.
The Spartans tacked on six more points in the second quarter with a pair of 50-yard field goals from Sean Henderson, setting a new personal best for a field goals made in a game.
“Outstanding night for Sean,” Hardy said. “He kicked everything through the uprights and had a couple of kickoffs in the end zone.”
With Wesminster still in striking distance at the half, GAC took control in the third quarter with its running game.
Clemson-bound Kyler McMichael, who led all rushers with 78 yards on 12 carries with one score, burst in from four yards out to put GAC up 20-0 with 7:39 left in the third.
The ensuing possession for Westminster ended in a punt and Max Burke’s 22-yard return gave the Spartans the ball at its own 39.
GAC then put together its best drive of the night, going 61 yards on 12 plays, capping it off with a 10-yard TD run from Alex Boglin.
Boglin finished with 31 yards and one score on six carries.
The reserves for GAC played the majority of the game from that point and kept things going with two more scores.
Backup quarterback Jackson Hardy connected with Jonathan Moore on a 37-yard TD pass, while Zac Mixon picked off a Chance Loeffler pass and returned it 60 yards for a score.
Westminster avoided the shutout in the waning minutes with a 1-yard TD run from Miles Davis.
GAC quarterback Josh Rose finished with 70 yards on 8 of 18 attempts, while Loeffler threw for 106 yards on 10 of 18 attempts with one interception.

Interested to watch that Ward kid over the next few years. Could end up a prospect down the line

FOOTBALL: Woodland falls to Valdosta in weather-shortened contest (HenryHerald)
quote:
That’s all the Wildcats needed to re-establish their swagger.
Tyler Berrian returned the second half’s opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to give Valdosta a 26-0 lead against Woodland-Stockbridge, before a bolt of lightning sent both teams off the field. The game was eventually called as the Wildcats secured their first win of the season.
Although victory never seemed to really be in doubt for Valdosta, it wasn’t until the second quarter that the team began to play like it.
“I thought we still second guessed ourselves,” Wildcats head coach Alan Rodemaker said after the game. “We still didn’t come out with the confidence I wanted us to come out with.
“I’ve told these kids a long time ago, ‘I can’t give you confidence. You’ve got to gain confidence by what you do on the field,’ and I think we were still down on ourselves early.”
Valdosta went three-and-out on two of its three first-quarter possessions, sandwiched around a drive that ended on AJ Akins’ 37-yard field goal to give the ‘Cats a 3-0 lead through one quarter.
The second quarter was a different story.
Valdosta outscored Woodland 16-0 in the period to take control of the game, and like a year ago, it started with special teams and defense.
An Atkins punt sent the Wolfpack return man drifting back towards the goal line, where he muffed the punt. Woodland was able retain possession, albeit backed up on its own 1-yard line.
On the first play of the possession, multiple Valdosta defenders, led by linebacker Zakoby McClain, hit Woodland running back Kareem Rogers and stopped him in the end zone for a safety.
After the ensuing free kick, the Wildcats marched 57 yards in 11 plays to push the lead to 12-0 with five minutes remaining in the first half on Rajae’z Mosley’s 2-yard plunge into the end zone.
Mosley scored again, this time from five yards out, on Valdosta’s next drive to give the Wildcats complete control going into the locker room up 19-0.
Valdosta finished the first half with 128 yards rushing, 76 from Mosley, and 182 yards of total offense — more than tripling its offensive output of a week ago in the first half alone.
“That wasn’t hard to do,” Rodemaker said. “I think once we got going, we played a lot faster. We wanted to establish the run. Rajae’z Mosley is a weapon for us, and so is Jeremiah Proctor. Hunter had some good runs early too.
“I just thought we did what we wanted to do when we got going.”
But as Rodemaker alluded to, it took Valdosta a little while to get going on both sides of the ball.
Woodland finished with just 48 yards of offense, but the Wolfpack picked up more than 30 yards and two of the team’s four first downs on their first three drives alone.
Rodemaker chalked his team’s relatively slow start to last week’s defeat in the Winnersville Classic.
“I knew we wouldn’t, well I had a feeling, because I’ve been doing this for a little while, after you struggle, you don’t just come out and you’re a whole different team most of the time,” Rodemaker said. “Unless you’re a lesser opponent, and listen, we don’t have any of those guys on our schedule… I think they have a good football team. I actually think this team is better than it was last year.”
There was also plenty of adversity for Valdosta to overcome health-wise Friday.
Offensive weapon Jayce Rogers sat out the game after injuring his ankle last week, and he’s set to miss at least two more weeks.
Starting quarterback Hunter Holt also injured his collarbone during one of the first-quarter drives and was removed from the game after just two passes and two carries.
Sophomore reserve Jude Ard entered the game for Holt and completed 4-of-10 passes for 54 yards. Four of his final six passes were completed after misfiring on each of his first four attempts.
“We’re struggling in a lot of places, and we’re thin as paper,” Rodemaker said of the team’s health woes. “So we’ve got to get these guys well and get them back, and other folks have got to step up.
“We don’t stop the season. This isn’t an individual man’s game, so we hope we get those guys back ASAP, but in the meantime, somebody else has got to step up.”

Pinson Valley 47, McAdory 13: Bo Nix accounts for 5 TDs in first game with Indians (AL.com)
quote:
The Nix era at Pinson Valley is off to a marvelous start.
Quarterback Bo Nix, an elite recruit in the class of 2019, threw four touchdown passes and ran for a score in the Indians’ 47-13 season-opening romp at McAdory.
He came with his father Patrick Nix from Scottsboro when the elder Nix was hired as Pinson Valley’s head coach.
Pinson Valley scored on its first three possessions. Nix threw touchdown passes of 33 and 25 yards to Demarion Holloman, 10 yards to Dilan Henderson and 30 to Orion Morris.
“It’s not a good game for Bo and I, it’s a good game for Pinson,” Patrick Nix said. “For the players, I’m very proud of the way they played tonight and the effort they gave. I’m very proud of the way they’ve worked all the way since February when I got there to get us to this point. It’s one game. One game doesn’t make a team at all, so we’ve got to continue to build and continue to grow.”
Bo Nix, a four-star recruit with a top eight of Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Clemson, Ohio State and Florida State, completed 25 of 35 passes for 290 yards with no interceptions.
"He can do a little bit of everything," McAdory coach David Powell said. "He can throw it and run it. He reads all the coverages and can make every throw. He’s a great talent."
Pinson Valley won eight games last year, reaching the second round of the playoffs. The Indians are filled with playmakers and instantly become a Class 6A state championship contender with Nix leading the way.
His playmakers did most of the work on three of the four touchdown passes, making McAdory defenders miss and racing into the end zone. His fourth scoring pass came in the fourth quarter and it was the 25-yard pass to Holloman where he hit him in stride down the right sideline.
“We have a lot of options at the playmaking positions and that’s what makes us good,” Patrick Nix said. “We have a lot of really good players.”
Nix can run, but won’t have to much. He scored on a 15-yard scamper on Pinson Valley’s second drive. His only down moments came in the third quarter when he threw four straight incompletions, but this came after a touchdown pass was called back for holding.
“Some good, some bad,” Patrick Nix said. “He did some good things early and at the end, didn’t do quite as well as I would have liked him to have done.”
McAdory was down 20-6 late in the second quarter when it stopped Pinson Valley on downs, but the Indians scored two plays later when Raymond Womack and Joel Parker forced a fumble of McAdory quarterback Ethan Wade and DeMarco Harris recovered in the end zone.
“We definitely are inexperienced and it showed,” Powell said. “We made a lot of mistakes. I’m not taking anything away from Pinson. They have a great team. We missed some tackles and some opportunities in the first half.”
McAdory is at Dallas County next week and Pinson Valley hosts Ramsay.

Some Thoughts
- I am more convinced than ever that Gatewood can play QB at next level. Will need some time to develop but he looked really good Saturday night
- Impressed with Asa Martin's first game. Looked good running between tackles
- Watch Jamien Sherwood's highlights. Dude is a ball player
- Joiner's run style still doesn't match his physique. With that said, dude is dynamic with the ball in his hands. If he learns to run behind pads he could challenge for top 5 RB in this class
- Richard Jibunor plays some pretty terrible competition but dominates like he should
- Really excited about the Hoover commits Jackson/Pickens. Both showed some good stuff against a VERY good Grayson team. Jackson especially
- First time really seeing Fuqua play at safety. Would like to see him play faster but love his size

I played at GAC. There are now a bunch of former NFL coaches/players involved in the program.
They of course have their kids there. Bobby Herert, William Andrews, and Leeman Bennett, the old Falcons Coach all are, or have been involved with the program.
There are several others. McMichael is for real. We need to flip him.

Fields is a freak. Still a bit raw as far as mechanics and footwork but damn...if he doesnt remind you of Cam, no one will

"Fit- AU
Development- FSU
Friends/Family- UGA
Pretty much what it boils down to, which is more important to them?"
Auburn would be number two in Development and number two in Friends/Family arguably number one with the likes of Cam his 7v7 coach and Hill the recently committed receiver and "best freind".

Everyone claims FSU is the better QB development program, but Gus has as many Heisman and NC winning QBs as Jimbo. He also has a better record of developing DT Qbs.
