Jalil Irvin ends the recruiting process, he's an Auburn Tiger (Rivals)
quote:
It almost happened over the weekend. Jalil Irvin visited Auburn, he spent hours around the Tiger coaches, his mother got an up-close look at the program and a commitment was very close to happening then.
The 6-foot-3, 295 pound offensive lineman out of Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson talked about Auburn with his mother after the visit, both felt the same way about the school, and on Wednesday the trigger was pulled.
"I am committed to Auburn," said Irvin. "I actually made up my mind during the visit, then I told the Auburn coaches about my decision Monday night. I had a feeling it was going to be Auburn, but when I was sitting in coach [Herb] Hand's (offensive line) Saturday, that is really when it hit me. I knew then that I was going to Auburn."
Hand was hired by Gus Malzahn in 2016 and Irwin talks about the role he played in his commitment.
"He really played a big part in my decision. I love that man already. I like the person that he is, I love the passion that he has and coach Hand is the type of coach that I want to play for. We have really connected.
"Coach Hand is going to go hard for me each day coaching me and I am going to go hard for him. He cares about his players, I already feel like he cares about me and he was a big part of me choosing Auburn."
Over the weekend the picture became clear for the No. 17 prospect in Georgia, but getting to the point to make the call and to feel 100 percent about his decision was not easy.
"It was tough to go through the recruiting process," said Irvin. "It pretty much came down to Auburn and Michigan. I was once committed to Michigan, I have family up there and all of this was not easy.
"I know God has a plan for me and I feel like He was directing me to Auburn, so it feels good to be committed to them. It feels like it is the right place for me. I couldn't feel any better about this."
There are many reasons why the Tigers beat out the Wolverines and so many other programs. Hand is one. The academics that the mother (who is a teacher) really liked is another. Irvin sees Auburn winning big in the future too and that was another reason he chose the Tigers.
"There is something special going on at Auburn," said Irvin. "I want top players in Georgia to go there, I want top guys all over the south to come and be a part of something special. Auburn has a chance to win the SEC West every year, and it is a tough division, so I want others to see my vision and come do big things with me at Auburn."
The new Tiger plans to be back on the Plains later this spring and he cannot wait to see Hand. Not only does he want to hangout with his future position coach, but Irvin wants to see Hand show his gymnastic skills too.
"Coach Hand told me when we talked in his office Saturday that if I committed then he would be doing hand-stands and back-flips," Irvin said with a laugh. "So now that I am committed, I expect to see him doing those things the next time I am there.
"I was so excited to tell him and the Auburn coaches about my decision. I am just excited about it and I felt like I was a priority to them, so I think we are all excited right not. Now I am excited to see coach Hand do his thing too."
The Auburn fans will be excited about this. Irvin feels very confident in his decision this statement shows that.
"I am done. I am not taking anymore visits. The only place people will see me at now is Auburn," said Irvin.
Auburn told Irvin he will likely play guard or center for them.
Irvin is commitment No. 3 for Auburn in 2018. He joins quarterback Joey Gatewood and running back Shaun Shivers, both are out of the state of Florida.

Offensive lineman Jalil Irvin commits to Auburn over Michigan, North Carolina (SECCountry)
quote:
The 4-star offensive lineman from Stephenson High School (Ga.) committed to Auburn on Wednesday less than a week after his visit to Auburn, which he said had him “99.9 percent close” to committing. He finalized that decision Wednesday via a recruitment video with 247Sports.
Irvin told SEC Country he knew when he left Auburn this weekend that he would choose the Tigers. He simply needed a few days and conversations with his mother.
“I just really need to re-affirm it,” Irvin said. “Everything is all good now. I’m committed. I’m AU, man. I let the coach know yesterday (Tuesday). They were excited. They were pretty happy, man.”
Irvin spent most of last Saturday with offensive line coach Herb Hand.
The 6-foot-4, 280-pound guard is the first offensive lineman in Auburn’s 2018 recruiting class. He’s the fourth member of the class and the first to commit since running back Shaun Shivers in October. Irvin is ranked the No. 18 offensive guard in the nation by the 247Sports composite rankings.
Irvin said Michigan and North Carolina were the two schools that gave Auburn the best push.
The relationship with Auburn coaches and players won him over.
“That connection. It was that connection. It was just something special. I made the best decision for myself,” Irvin said. “I just needed to get it out of the way, man. That’s really what it came down to. I felt like that was the best decision for me.”
With Irvin’s commitment, Auburn jumps to the No. 15 position in the team rankings. The Tigers have four total commitments: Joey Gatewood, Daquan Newkirk, Shivers and Irvin.

Auburn lands commitment from 4-star OL Jalil Irvin (AL.com)
quote:
Auburn bolstered its offensive line on Wednesday with a commitment from four-star recruit Jalil Irvin.
The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Irvin is ranked as the No. 311 national prospect, No. 18 offensive guard nationally and No. 30 prospect in Georgia.
He announced his commitment to Auburn on a 247Sports video over North Carolina, Michigan and Tennessee.
"Just the coaching staff, man," Irvin said. "I just had the right feeling every time I went up there. (I committed early) I can enjoy my senior year. I already knew where I wanted to go, so I went ahead and did it."
Irvin attends Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Ga. and is a teammate of Auburn defensive back signee Carlito Gonzalez.
"He didn't have much of an impact, but he was excited," Irvin said.
Auburn offered Irvin last fall. His first trip to Auburn was for a game during his sophomore year.
"They were really on me hard," Irvin said. "I really appreciated it. I went up there and just fell in love with it."
Irvin will start out at center or guard, but said he had the athleticism to play tackle but the body type to play on the interior line.
He said he's 110 percent committed to Auburn and will graduate next May.
He is the fourth commitment for Auburn's class of 2018.

What commitment of 4-star OL Jalil Irvin means for Auburn (AL.com)
quote:
Jalil Irvin committed to Aubun on Wednesday, but the wheels had been in motion for the four-star offensive guard from Stone Mountain, Ga., for more than a year.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Irvin said he visited Auburn for a game while he was a sophomore. Stephenson High School puts out plenty of SEC prospects yearly, including Auburn safety signee Carlito Gonzalez from last year's class. When he saw a game, he knew early on that Auburn was a place for him. Auburn offered last fall and though there's 11 months before National Signing Day, Irvin knew where he wanted to go. He said he's 110 percent committed to the Tigers.
WHAT AUBURN IS GETTING: The 6-foot-3, 295-pound Irvin said he'll play guard or center for Auburn. He plays guard at Stephenson, but has played some tackle. The personable Irvin can be one of the leaders for this Auburn class.
"He's a great kid, great leader, good student," said Corey Johnson, the recruiting coordinator at Stephenson High School. "Any kind of adjective you want to put that's positive, it fits him."
Irvin has been battle-tested on the field as a three-year starter. He's versatile enough to play any position but will be a guard or center.
"I think he's going to bring toughness," Johnson said. "In our program, we coach our kids hard. It's not going to be something where he can't take instruction. He's a good listener and very knowledgeable about football. You're getting a kid with a high football IQ. He's a tough kid.
"He's played against top-notch talent already being in high school. You look at the kids coming out of our program and our region, he's blocked the best of them. From Chauncey Rivers (Georgia signee who went from junior college to Mississippi State) to all the guys. We probably have 10 guys in the SEC that came off our team.
"Being in a situation like that on a daily basis, you have no alternative than to get better day in day out."
WHAT IT MEANS: Irvin is Auburn's fourth commitment for the class and first on the offensive line. Irvin had plenty of offers and he's going to stick. Auburn signed three offensive linemen last year and that number will need to be higher in this class. Irvin is a great start.
RANKINGS
247Sports composite: As a 4-star, Irvin is ranked as the No. 18 offensive guard nationally, No. 30 prospect in Georgia and No. 311 overall prospect.
247Sports individual: 4-star, No. 14 OG nationally, No. 26 in Georgia and No. 314 overall
Scout: 3-star
Rivals: 4-star, No. 7 OG, No. 17 prospect in Georgia, No. 172 nationally
ESPN: 4-star, No. 8 OG, No. 105 regional, No. 21 in Georgia.

Alabama Mr. Football La’Damian Webb in ‘wait-and-see’ mode with Auburn (SECCountry)
quote:
Will record-setter receive offer? He sure hopes so
La’Damian Webb has accomplished it all, it seems.
The running back from Beauregard (Ala.) became the first junior in Alabama history to be named Mr. Football. That came after a 3,242-yard, 53-touchdown season in the state’s 5A classification. Those numbers include a state championship game that featured 51 carries, 359 yards, 5 touchdowns — all state records — and, yes, a title game victory.
Webb transitioned smoothly to recruiting success, too.
The 3-star running back snagged offers from Indiana, Iowa State, Toledo, Missouri, Southern Miss and Ole Miss following his championship game effort. He’s taken unofficial visits to Auburn and Alabama for junior days but still hasn’t received an offer.
With Auburn, Webb is willing to be patient.
“They’re telling me that they’re going to wait and see. I’ll wait it out for a while and see how it goes,” Webb said after his Auburn visit. “It would be pretty good. They’d definitely be in my top 5.”
The clear knock on Webb: his height.Auburn recruiting-Shaun Shivers
He’s listed at 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, but even Webb would be willing to admit that his height and weight are overstated. Recently, Webb posted a photo on Twitter next to Alabama head coach Nick Saban (not the tallest guy in the business). Saban looked noticeably taller than Webb, which probably puts Webb’s measurables — his height, at least — closer to the 5-5 stature of Auburn commit Shaun Shivers.
Shivers’ commitment already raised size questions at the running back position for 2018. It might be hard-pressed to bring two undersized backs in with the same class.
But right now, Auburn is sending Webb a positive message.
“I like their playing style. I think I’d be a great fit with them. They said I’m perfect with the offense they run, especially with the new offensive coordinator, Chip (Lindsey),” Webb said. “I’d give them more options to get the ball in open space.”

4-star WR praises Kodi Burns
Auburn wide receiver coach Kodi Burns will be judged heavily on his recruiting performance in the 2018 class. It’s a deep group, and Auburn is loaded with targets: Justyn Ross, Seth Williams, Matthew Hill and Jacob (not Jason) Copeland, just to name a few.
The latter has a strong bond with quarterback commit Gatewood. He also has a rich relationship with Burns, who Copeland sent a very positive message about earlier in the week.
Copeland raved about Burns following junior day. Many believe Copeland to be a Florida lean, but Auburn is in the mix because of the constant efforts by Burns, who made multiple trips to Pensacola, Fla., before 2017 signing day to go see the 2018 wide receiver.
“It’s always good talking with coach Burns. He’s a cool dude, man. He speaks it real to me, how everything would be set up if I were to come here,” Copeland told SEC Country.

Two of the best in Georgia to stay together? (Rivals)
quote:
There are multiple high schools in Georgia that have two three star or better football prospects in the 2018 class, but Stockbridge has two four stars that are in Rivals' top 200.
Defensive end Brenton Cox is No. 156 and wide receiver Marquez Ezzard is No. 176. Each has a long list offers, each is coveted by top programs for different reasons and each would love to play with the other on the next level.
The close friends, teammates first started playing together on an eight and under team. They stayed together for years in pop warner, then played in middle school together before going separate ways.
After starting out his high school career at Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove, Cox moved to Stockbridge to re-unite with Ezzard at the end of his sophomore year.
The two are closer than ever and each had a big junior season helping the Tigers reach the semi-finals in 2016. Now each has cemented himself as a top prospect in 2018 and the offers have been rolling in the past few months.
They know they each have their pick to future their education, but one school might receive two letter-of-intents from Stockbridge.
"It is about every day that we talk about picking a school together, playing together and we talk about that stuff a lot," said Cox. "We know time is winding down, that this is something we have to get serious about pretty soon, and I am graduating early, so I know I do not have until signing day to wait. That pushes us a little more."
Cox is a 6-foot-4, 245 pound hybrid who could play standing up or with his hand in the dirt depending on scheme. That is something he has thought about when them playing together comes up.
"It could a little tricky because some schools want me at different positions," said Cox. "We know Marquez is a receiver, but some schools like me as an outside linebacker and some like me as a defensive end, so seeing how I fit into a certain scheme could help or hurt this plan. We know both have to make the best decision for ourselves."
Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Ohio State and Tennessee are some of the schools who have offered each of these four stars. You would expect in today's world of recruiting with staffs being so deep that college coaches would know how close these two are, but the topic of these two staying together has not been a hot topic yet.
"No college coaches have really asked us if we are committing together or anything like that yet," said Ezzard. "It has come up maybe once when I was talking with someone, but it is not really a big thing yet.
"It might be after this story though. It will start to get out. We just haven't talked about it much yet."
Cox has been on a few more visits so far this year than Ezzard. Cox has a little more free time due to Ezzard playing baseball. Both were out a lot in the fall taking in games and they each know what they are looking for in a school.
"We are really looking for the same things in a school," said Cox. "We both want to go where we are comfortable, we both want to have good relationships with the coaches and we both want to win.
"We have the same mindset and we are really looking for the same stuff. We are a lot alike."
Personalities are the same. Cox may be the one that cares about his personal looks on Friday nights a little more. Ezzard may talk a little more trash, but both are relatively quiet young men letting their actions speak for them.
Neither is close to making a decision and do not look for one before they begin their senior campaign.
"Neither one of us are close to committing," said Ezzard. "I see everything happening after the season.
"Us committing on the same day, at the same time, to the same school could happen, but we are not there yet. We aren't even close to that, so that is something we still have a lot of time to figure out."
If that time was now. If signing day was tomorrow. If a decision had to be made right now; without hesitation, the star defender said the two would be inking with the same school.
"I would say 10 out of 10 would be the odds of us staying together if signing day was tomorrow," said Cox. "We have known each other since we were little, we have been talking about playing together for a while now and we would love to make that happen.
"I know it is not our time yet, but when it is, I think it will happen."

Four-star Tight End Brevin Jordan Talks Auburn and Cal Offers, Upcoming Visits to UCLA, Michigan and Miami (Scout)
Video in the link

Brevin Jordan is past two dozen scholarship offers and the next few months could prove to be a key part of his recruiting process as he hits the road to check out some of his options in person.
Auburn and California became the two latest offers for the No. 1-rated tight end in the 2018 class, and Jordan told Scout.com last weekend that the Tigers in particular caught his attention given that it's an SEC program. Jordan plans to visit UCLA this coming weekend and is eyeing a trip to Michigan next month, with Miami another likely stop.
Hear what Jordan had to say about his recruitment at the adidas 7v7 National Championship in the video above.

Watch: Auburn WR target pulls off Jordan-like dunk (247)
quote:
Justyn Ross of Phenix City (Ala.) Central, the No. 1 football recruit in the state of Alabama and one of Auburn's top overall targets, was messing around with friends at a local gym Wednesday when he decided to do his best imitation of famed basketball players Michael Jordan and Julius Erving.
Jordan and Erving, as some may recall, had memorable foul line dunks in slam competitions.
Ross, who is 6-feet-3, 185 pounds, attempted to do the same -- and he came awfully close. Taking off from just inside the foul line, he threw down this tunderous dunk.
How far did Ross go?
Well, consider this: Per livestrong.com, "The free-throw line is about 13 feet horizontally from the front edge of the hoop."
When analyzing Ross' dunk, it appears he went into the air about a foot inside the foul line.

KN has VIP update on 2019 DB Devin Bush who recently was offered by AU on junior day visit. It's only his 2nd total offer and first from a Power 5 school. He is the first kid from Louisiana we have offered in the 2019 cycle as well. Seemed really excited about the offer and probably gives us a head start on him. Kodi Burns is his area recruiter

Also VIP article on 4* WR Justyn Ross the #1 player in the state. Don't expect him to commit anytime soon as his mom is currently serving overseas and he wants to wait to go through process with her. He has visited the past two weekends. He brought his aunt and grandmother the first weekend and some teammates the second one. Seemed excited about what he saw from Jarrett Stidham in practice and thinks AU will throw ball more next year. Says he thinks of Kodi Burns like a big brother and that the two of them are close. AU & Bama are recruiting him the hardest right now. Plans to be back on campus for A-Day

Some Ohio State crystal balls rolling in for GA LB Michael Harris (possibly our top overall LB target). He grew up a big tOSU fan so that was a big offer for him (they offered yesterday).
Harris is a freakin stud. Worth fighting for. Everyone in the country wants him now that the word is out on him.
