quote:1 problem with that theory. Our coach is Gus Malzahn. He's not going to let the run/pass ratio be no lower than 60/40. Assuming we have 75 plays per game which has been the average for AU the past 5 years or so that's still 45 rushes to 30 passes per game. Only a 4 pass play increase from last years 65% run plays. To appease Gus & look good to QB & WR recruits we need to up the tempo to about 85 plays per game. At 40% passing per game that would be 34 passes a game & a net increase of 8 passes per game. I would be shocked if we got to a 10-12 net pass increase with Gus as HC.
1- 10-12+ passes/game:
We were #120/128 in pass att/game, 6-8 more would only bring us to ~75-100 nationally. 10-12+ would be a respectable #40-50

NVM. Paw eventually got around to it.

You are thinking of the 2015 season when our balance was ~65% run/35% pass

Agreed. His inner circle seems to be very anti AU. Always felt LSU would end up the compromise

Rivals released their top 250 for 2019
Again this is just a guess at targets on this list. Plenty will change but good starting spot
102.) CB Brandon Turnage
107.) OG Warren McClendon
114.) CB Devin Bush
118.) LB Anthony Solomon
125.) ATH Mark Anthony-Richards --> Ahmmon Richards brother but he visited AU recently and has us in his top group
131.) WR George Pickens (AU Commit) --> Good first initial ranking for a guy with limited varsity snaps. Really excited to watch him this fall
132.) DB Joseph Charleston
137.) CB Jalen Perry
138.) ATH Jerion Ealy
143.) WR Jeremiah Payton
144.) RB John Emery --> I personally believe he's the best RB in 2019, dude is a monster
148.) DE Braylon Ingraham
149.) ATH Trezman Marshall
150.) LB Donte Starks
151.) LB Kevin Harris --> personally think dude is a bit overrated
174.) RB Cesari Mellusi
182.) OL Mark Fox
185.) WR Shamar Nash
188.) WR Ramel Keyton --> dude has some of the best hands I have seen for a high schooler
199.) TE Ryland Goede --> Major UGA lean as his 2 best friends Dominick Blaylock and JD Bertrand are already committed there
209.) S Keontra Smith (UK Commit) --> once named AU his leader, teammates with Shaun Shivers
213.) RB Derrian Brown
218.) LB Mikel Jones
221.) DE Mohamoud Diabete --> plays at Auburn High School therefore Bama lock...
224.) DB Jaylin Simpson
225.) DB Trikweze Bridges
226.) DE Derrick McClendon
228.) DB Tyron Hopper --> cousin of Tyneil Hopper

Not even 1 guy in the top 100, time to get an early start on the 2019 melt.

quote:My bad on getting the numbers wrong. However using the corrected numbers I still don't see us going up net 10-12 passes a game to 32 PAs with Gus being the HC barring a large increase in tempo. We ran 71 plays per game last season. I still think 40% pass will be the highest Gus will allow. At 71 plays per game 40% pass puts you at 28 passes per game, net increase of 6. To get to 32 PAs a game for a net increase of 10 at 40% pass, total plays per game has to increase to 80. I think 30 passes a game for a net increase of 8 is more likely along with 45 rushes for a total of 75 plays per game.

Honestly though I don't melt any harder than anyone else, in fact I'd say I melt less. I just melt differently.
If you'll notice I almost never melt during game threads or the season (unless we run fullback whirly birds or lose to the worst UGA teams in years). When we don't recruit up to the proper level I know we aren't going to win bigly so by the time the season comes I've mostly gotten it out of my system.

Cause we never sign top 100 guys? What does that even mean?

Why the frick can we not recruit elite running backs? We have to sign diamond in the rough type players like Pettway or convert a perfectly good safety like KJ or JUCO RBs.
Where are the 5 star elites? They should be lining up to play for the most potent rushing attack in the SEC
