Jason came to the coaches expressing a willingness to move after the first week of his first Spring At AU. Wasn't the coaches making the move.

Similar to Rudy Ford I believe, who seemed happy to get the shot to play early on D.

Other players who seemingly made the decision where they should play

-Darius Slayton - Originally recruited DB, promised and stayed WR

-Kerryon Johnson- Many teams projected him as a DB maybe even WR. Played some All Star games as DB I think

-Trovon Reed - Should have been a DB all along

-Corey Grant - Bama used him as a DB

-RiCardo Louis - Recruited by other as DB

-Justin Garrett - We let him change positions he wanted

Honestly, I would love that class at DB.

Something to be said for trusting your own evals. A lot of the guys Auburn gets on board as early 3* end up 4* after more evals are done. Lots of lengthy guys there and quick twitch smaller ones too.

Oh I know just also knew that seeing all those 3*s would cause some on here to melt

I am very high on Thomas and Foucha. Sherwood is interesting. I don't really know where he fits. In some ways reminds me of Mackenroe Alexander and Jordan Colbert who were both guys who never really found a home. Would not be surprised if he took the Montavious Atkinson route

The Clemson 247 VIP article on him isn't good news for AU. Basically says it feels like home and that he agreed with Dabo saying "when you know, you know". I think it's very safe to say that unless something wild happens he lands at Clemson

They keep whooping us for DB talent. Really hope we can beat em out for McMichael

This is BS. I am still a Gus fan, but Gus has to do better. Recruiting in college football is 70% of the job. Shouldn't have effing hired Brown if he can't get the job done on the recruiting trail.

This is what happens when you lose in the NCG and go on to lose 5 or more games every year.

Gotta start winning on the field again. Do that and things will be fine but need to show improvement to get kids to buy all the way back in again

Yep. So many schools are saying "Gus won't be at Auburn much longer". That doesn't help recruiting at all.

Auburn CB target Juanyeh Thomas to return Thursday to place that gives him ‘that home feeling’ (SECCountry)
quote:

Cornerback target returns shortly after Big Cat

AUBURN, Ala. — Juanyeh Thomas didn’t commit at Big Cat Weekend. But when he left, he hinted at something regarding any return trips to Auburn.

“It didn’t happen, but every time I come back here, I just feel more at home,” Thomas said. “I’m just waiting on coming back here again. I think the next time I come back here, I think I’ll have my decision made on whether I want to commit or not.”

Thomas originally didn’t plan to make it back to the Plains until July. He also intended on visiting his other two schools of interest — Florida and Georgia Tech — in July, following a June filled with 7-on-7 events.

Change of plans.

The 3-star cornerback from Niceville, Fla., will be back in Auburn on Thursday with some of his high school teammates, who are in town for the Tigers’ camp. Thomas still plans on making a decision in August, but whenever he talks about a commitment, he does so with an anticipation and imminence as if his mind is close to being made up.

“When it’s time, it’ll be that time to commit,” Thomas said after Big Cat Weekend.

Commitment has crossed Thomas’ mind before. He admitted it could happen against when he returns Thursday for camp. But he also doesn’t want to label a leader between Florida, Auburn and Georgia Tech, even though the Tigers seem like the obvious front-runner.

Part of that has to do with Auburn’s recruiting efforts.

“I can say who is recruiting me the most: Auburn. I wouldn’t say I have an official leader yet,” Thomas said. “All of the coaches recruit basically the same way as far as how they want you and all. It’s just the difference between Florida and Auburn is Auburn is more closely related to Niceville, and that’s a plus.”

What does he mean by “more closely related to Niceville”?

Many prospects talk about Auburn have a special home feeling on visits. It runs even deeper with Thomas. He draws many similarities from his hometown in Florida to the Plains, something he said helped persuade Niceville grad Eli Stove to join the Tigers, too.

“(Big Cat Weekend) just made me feel more at home. If people would go to Niceville and come back here, they’ll think this is the same thing, the same town, the same tradition as far as sports and football. It’ll be the same. (At Big Cat Weekend), I felt more at home. I felt free,” Thomas said. “Auburn just gives me that home feeling.”

In-state OLB to work out for Auburn

I mentioned at the end of last week what the Tigers’ linebacker options will be going forward.

There are four LBs the Tigers are looking at most closely: JJ Peterson, Michael Harris, Channing Tindall and Zakoby McClain. Several other names could emerge if the Tigers were to miss on more than half of those throughout the summer.

The Tigers are only expected to take two, or maybe three, linebackers in this cycle, so there aren’t many spots available. But Travis Williams is making sure he has other worthy choices beyond the aforementioned group.

La’Dedric Jackson is on the verge of being one of them.

The 6-foot-2, 198-pound outside linebacker from Lanier (Ala.) plans to camp at Auburn on Thursday in hopes of receiving an offer.

“Coach T-Will wants me to work out for him 1-on-1,” Jackson said.

He already holds offers from Missouri, LSU, Ole Miss, Toledo and Kentucky. His willingness to camp emphasizes his desire to receive an offer from the Tigers. It should be noted that he’s high school teammates with Missouri quarterback commit James Foster and defensive tackle Alfred Thomas.

Foster told SEC Country in the past that Thomas and Jackson were two of his prime targets to recruit Missouri alongside him.

I still haven't watched his tape so don't really have an opinion just yet on how happy/not happy would be with him getting an offer. I will say that it seems like between him and Matthew Flint we have some solid instate backup LB talent if needed

Priority DB target puts Auburn among top schools

No surprise, it’s but worth noting: Kyler McMichael placed Auburn in his top 6.

When I wrote about the top-ranked corner last weekend, I really stuck to four schools — Florida State, Clemson, Alabama and Auburn. Now you can add Tennessee and in-state Georgia into the equation.

Of those schools in his top 6, only Auburn and Clemson have talked to him about the possibility of playing defense, but taking some offensive reps. McMichael said after Big Cat Weekend that was something that appealed to him.

McMichael is the 13th-ranked cornerback in the country. He’s a standout for Greater Atlanta Christian (Ga.), which is where Darius Slayton went to high school.

I wouldn't say never. I think FSU was trending before Bama but I feel pretty confident in saying that back during junior days we were the team to beat

But ya things have been trending the wrong way in that recruitment for a few months now tho at least with FSU I felt like we still had a shot at it. Not so anymore

I like all Auburn sports and all but in this totally hypothetical scenario yes the AD has to say give the girl a scholarship if it meant landing the #2 player in the country for football. Pretty much a no brainer.

I think a lot of kids are waiting to see if we win to increase Gus's security. I also think the new rules has slowed things down for a good number of recruits in the short run. We gotta win 10 + bad. A road win early at Clemson would be great on the recruiting trail.
