Chip Lindsey and Tim Horton visited 2019 4* QB Bo Nix son of Patrick Nix. He's rated the #2 dual threat QB in 2019. Patrick was just named the new HC at Pinson Valley so Bo and him will be there this year instead of Scottsboro. KN mentions FSU, Tennessee & Clemson as other teams after Nix

KN has a target watch article up breaking down how AU wants to finish. Here's summary

- According to KN's sources AU has 6 spots to fill. Not a guarantee we will but it looks like we will try

- Here's breakdown of how those expected spots are to be used
Tight end/H-back — 1-2
Offensive line — 1
Defensive line — 1-2
Linebacker — 1

Trending Up
4* DE Markaviest Bryant - Four team race between AU/UGA/LSU/BAMA. He is AU's top Buck target. Despite the fact UGA has seemed the clear leader for some time AU & LSU's confidence is rising in landing him. His coach is making the trip as well and supposedly has a lot of sway with Bryant (good thing he's getting that job right? ) and right now KN put's AU's chances at around 50%

3* TE John Samuel Shenker - Offered just 2 days after Lindsey was hired apparently draws some Lutz comparisons but I think that's a little much. Barring something crazy happening or the always ominous "fit" excuse Shenker will sign with AU & probably commit Sunday

3* TE Kemari Averett - Big dude at 6'7" 240 lbs that was shaky at one point with Louisville then thought to be solid now making trip to AU this weekend. As of now it's not certain he is a take as staff wants to see if he would be a good fit. If they push KN thinks he is a flip candidate. He's very close with Marlon Character his former teammate

3* OG Matthew Tanner - JUCO kid that got an offer this week. If he gets go ahead from staff this weekend then he will commit. Chances are very high he ends up at AU

3* DT Tyrone Truesdell - KN thinks AU would have to miss on either Johnson or Bryant for him to get a commitable offer but if we push thinks we can land him

Holding Steady
4* DE Ryan Johnson - AU/STAN battle with AU feeling pretty good with where they stand. Officially visiting Texas this weekend and should commit either Sunday or Monday over Twitter. Stanford is a real threat but sounds like staff has some confidence with him

Trending Down
4* LB Tyler Taylor - Depth chart, depth chart, depth chart... That is why LSU has all the momentum right now and more confidence. Taylor thinks he can get on the field earlier there than AU. Something to watch is LSU is also trending up with Willie Gay. If he lands at Baton Rouge that could help AU. FWIW the fact he didn't commit last night is probably good for AU considering where things have been trending

So sounds like staff's goal ideal would be

4* DE Ryan Johnson
4* DE Markaviest Bryant
4* LB Tyler Taylor
3* TE John Samuel Shenker
3* TE Kemari Averett
3* OL Matthew Tanner

That would give us a final score of 259.64 which puts us in the 12-14 range. And yes before you all cry "but what if you take all the good players out?" then yes it would be even worse with a shot at being out of the top 15 so AU needs at a minimum to land one of those remaining 4* in order to for sure stay in the top 15

Auburn prepares to host four official visitors on last official visit before National Signing Day (SECCountry)
quote:

4-star DE/LB Markaviest Bryant (Crisp Co. High School/Cordele, Ga.)

National ranking: No. 4 WDE and No. 181 overall

Also considering: Georgia, LSU, Alabama and Arkansas

The skinny: Bryant has been Auburn’s top option at Buck defensive end for quite some time. “Big Cat” is quite familiar with Auburn and its campus. He lives two hours away, has taken a handful of unofficial visits and is cousins with Auburn graduate Montravius Adams. Georgia has been the perceived favorite to land Bryant for a while because of the in-state pull. Bryant officially visited Athens to start the month. LSU’s push has been late, but massive. He went to Baton Rouge a week ago, which led a source close to Bryant to say people should get ready to “expect a surprise.”

Auburn has the last official visit, however, and that matters. It’s expected several staffs will make face-to-face contact with Bryant following his OV to the Plains, but Auburn will be included in that too. According to people close to Bryant, the Tigers have been one of the favorites since the end of summer — even at times Bryant was leaving them out of his top 6 in the fall.

This will likely be a National Signing Day decision. The fact he hasn’t publicly announced a decision is a good sign for the last suitor. That’s Auburn.

Article was written before Tyrone Truesdell was confirmed to visit so not on the list

Auburn recruiting drops to No. 10, but Tigers can rise near National Signing Day (SECCountry)
quote:

Who committed to Auburn this week?

A repeat from last week: So far? Nobody.

Still, Auburn’s last commitment came from Malik Willis on Dec. 30. Willis is now enrolled.

With six spots available, there isn’t much time to fill them. It’s happening in the coming days with National Signing Day on the horizon. Tyler Taylor, Ryan Johnson, Matthew Tanner, John Samuel Shenker and Markaviest Bryant are all deciding imminently. A few late targets like Kemari Averett and Tyrone Truesdell will have decisions to make, too.

It’s an exciting time of year.

Who de-committed from Auburn this week?

For the fourth time this cycle, someone’s name was removed from Auburn’s commitment list. The first three — Lowell Narcisse, Brandon Martin and Tray Bishop — have found homes elsewhere. Octavius Matthews soon will, as well. The junior college running back and Auburn officially severed ties Thursday. Matthews has been the subject of some academic concerns, and he’s been wise to continue pursuing other options because of Auburn’s uncertainties. He officially visited Purdue last weekend. His top 3 includes Purdue, Kansas and Tennessee. Matthews won’t end up at Auburn.

Who are Auburn’s top uncommitted prospects?

4-star DL Ryan Johnson (Mobile, Ala.)
4-star LB Tyler Taylor (Buford, Ga.)
4-star DE Markaviest Bryant (Cordele, Ga.)
3-star OL Matthew Tanner (Jacksonville, Fla.)
3-star TE John Samuel Shenker (Moultrie, Ga.)
3-star TE Kemari Averett (Atlanta)
3-star DT Tyrone Truesdell (Augusta, Ga.)

Auburn 4-star commit Alaric Williams excited about how Chip Lindsey will use RBs in offense (SECCountry)
quote:

Alaric Williams isn’t a quarterback or a wide receiver, but he is excited about the future of Auburn football with the arrival of offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey.

Lindsey’s hire placed a lot of attention on Auburn’s passing game over the past week. But Williams, a 4-star recruit, likes what Lindsey will bring to Auburn’s rushers.

“I was actually really happy,” Williams said after his official visit last weekend. “Played against him, coached against him, something like that. … I was really happy about that. I knew they would find somebody good whether it was him or not.”

Auburn recruited Williams, officially listed as an athlete, at running back. The relationship between Williams and Auburn running backs coach Tim Horton is arguably the strongest in the entire 2017 recruiting class.

“Coach Horton, how could you not want to play for him?” Williams said. “Honestly, it’s the coaches and the relationships I’ve built with them in the past four or five years. I have been getting recruited by them since my eighth grade year.”

Is Mr. Football La'Damian Webb on the recruiting radar for Alabama or Auburn? (AL.com)
quote:

A junior, Webb is a member of the Class of 2018 and still has another season of high school football to play.

At 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds, Webb lacks the battering-ram size of Alabama Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry or bruising Auburn running back Kamryn Pettway, but he showcased durability with more than 90 carries in the semifinal and championship rounds of the playoffs.

Carter also said Webb excels as a receiver, giving him versatility that could be attractive to a spread offense like Auburn or Mississippi State.

Some schools see Webb's height, Carter argued, as an asset instead of a drawback.

"To me, with (things like) the inside zone, he's got the ability to not be seen," Carter said. "He kind of hides behind all those big linemen."

Carter also said Webb is on track to qualify academically.

Signing Day Preview: Auburn's top needs at linebacker (AL.com)
quote:

What was one of Auburn's biggest areas of concern this time last year has turned into one of the team's strengths heading into 2017. The Tigers lose only T.J. Neal, a graduate transfer from Illinois who appeared in 12 games last season, while returning their core of starting linebackers: Tre' Williams, Deshaun Davis and Darrell Williams.

After signing just one linebacker in the 2016 class, Tre' Threat, Auburn was looking to add three or four linebackers this time around to help bolster depth at the position and develop the next wave of linebackers under position coach Travis Williams and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele.

Auburn currently has three linebackers committed to the 2017 class, with two of them already on campus for spring semester. Four-star linebacker Kenney "K.J." Britt and three-star outside linebacker Chandler Wooten are both early enrollees and will have the benefit of spring practice.

The team's prized linebacker signee won't be arriving until the summer. Four-star Jackson-Olin linebacker Tadarian "T.D." Moultry is the Tigers' second-highest-rated high school prospect, ranked as No. 103 overall recruit nationally in the 247 Composite rankings. Although Moultry is a linebacker, he said Auburn will likely use him often off the edge in pass-rush as the team tries to replace Buck end Carl Lawson, who declared early for the NFL Draft.

While Auburn is satisfied with its current haul of linebackers, the Tigers are hoping they're not done yet this recruiting cycle. Auburn hopes to add four-star linebacker Tyler Taylor, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound prospect out of Lanier High in Buford, Georgia -- where he was teammates with current Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown. Taylor took an official visit to Auburn last weekend and said his decision was down to Auburn and LSU, and that he would inform the coaching staffs this week before going public with his commitment.

If Auburn can add Taylor to an already impressive haul of linebackers, it would be a big win for Williams and Steele in their first full recruiting cycle on the Plains.

- Top 100 4* WR Jacob Copeland made the trip. AU sitting pretty good early with him but will be a battle

- Things are going well with 3* TE John Samuel Shenker apparently. The OVs are at the athletic complex

- Markaviest Bryant's mom might not make trip but apparently not a big deal because his coach is the bigger influence in all this according to KN's sources. However LSU 247 mods seem to think her not showing up is a big deal and might put a CB in for LSU. So thing's are interesting...

- 4* OT Tank Jenkins has made it. If I had a pick for possible AU's next 2018 commit probably this guy. That's my guess at least

- 3* DE Andres Fox made the trip. Fast rising pass rusher

- In a surprise 4* LB Adam Anderson made the trip. He's an UGA commit and was not on the expected visitor list

- 4* CB Jalyn Armour-Davis also made the trip. He was on Bama's expected visitor list as well so glad he made it. KN says big visit for him as it's first time he will meet Greg Brown. We have 2 CB picks already

welp. Tyler Taylor appears to be all LSU. Do we have a backup plan for the 4th Linebacker??????? Be nice if we could steal Ignont or Monty Rice.

We don't have any LB backup plans. If we lose on Taylor we won't be taking anymore LBs.
