5-Star S Devon Hunter Discusses Recruitment, Official Visits as Commitment Nears (BleacherReport)

Now that he's set commitment plans for Jan. 20, it's unclear—even to Hunter—whether Florida will be the only SEC school to secure an official visit.
However, his recruitment has included unofficial visits to each finalist aside from Ole Miss. The Rebels entered this equation late after the December hiring of defensive coordinator Wesley McGriff, who previously spearheaded Hunter's recruitment on behalf of Auburn.
He served as the Tigers' co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach this season. Prior to the 2016 campaign, McGriff spent three years working with NFL defensive backs as a member of the New Orleans Saints' staff.
"He was the main reason why I was really considering Auburn," Hunter said. "He's a great coach who can help me develop into the player I want to be. Now he's got a bigger role at Ole Miss, so that got my attention."
This transition seemingly hurts Auburn's chances here, while thrusting Ole Miss into contention. However, if the Rebels are unable to lock in an official visit with Hunter it's likely inconsequential to his final decision.

Looks like our recruiting will be on par with the previous few seasons under Gus, maybe a little decline?

I'd say a little decline. Partially due to not having quite the recruiting staff and partially due to lingering questions about Gus' job security the whole recruiting cycle.

OL and DL are always the keys for success. You can win with 3* type talent everywhere else, but your lineman have to be elite. We seem to be doing well here.

It's actually right now in the center of what we usually do. If you don't count special team players our class currently has a player average of .902
2015 - .909
2016 - .907
2017 - .902
2014 - .900
2013 - .892
What's gonna hurt us in the final rankings is the lack of top level guys. Not just 5* but very high 4*. Out 2014 class is actually the highest ranked class in recruiting rankings because it has 8 guys ranked .94 or higher. This year we only have 3

KN had update on Hunter and his in home. Not a lot there except T-WILL is now his lead recruiter and we trying to convince him to still visit. Says he still likes AU but didn't give KN much more than that

KN says 4* LB Tyler Taylor plans to announce the day after he finishes visit to AU. He's ready to be done and that will be last visit. That's good timing for us

Thrilled with this LB class. Considering the turnover on the D staff and the fact that our D has sacked for a long time this is a really strong group of lbs

The problem with rankings is how a recruit fits into the system ran by that school. If there was a better way to quantify that, it would be more accurate.

I don't disagree. Just not sure how to quantify that or if there will ever be a way to do that

Agreed. If you had told me at start of this cycle I would be happy with a LB class that didn't have Benton or Ignont I would have thought you crazy but T-WILL has done a good job on the trail this year
It's on Garner now to close. The DL finish is what will either make this class great or just solid
