No you wasn't. You just read what you want to read.

Couldn't agree more.
Cowart moves inside. If we pick up Johnson then we've honestly just stayed afloat at that position and we'll be in trouble next recruiting class if we don't rake.
I feel like Coe got some positive reviews? We don't really know much about him or PJames IIIIIIII yet.

Coe was supposedly a bowl practice standout while PJ3 was solid and improving before injury
Even if both of them turn out to be solid or better, having only 4 DEs on roster isn't comforting. Especially when 1/4 (Holland) is more of a situational player

However, I wouldn't say 5 players for 2 positions is what I would call severe before the freshman class comes in. If we don't bring in any into this class, then it would start getting bad, which is why I said we need probably 2 in this class. Going into the spring though, in theory we would have upperclassmen at the position until the 3rd and 4th string (obvioiusly freshman could beat them out but you get the point).
Really, we're looking for 1 player (WDE/Buck). We have plenty of guys that can do really well at the SDE spot. Marlon Davidson is an absolute stud at that spot and Derrick Brown could play there if needed and do well. The key is finding people to rush the passer from the WDE/Buck spots. I think Cowart, James III, Holland, Coe and Moultry will be the guys who vie for that spot.

But yeah, we'll bring in guys and it won't wind up mattering
It appears we put all our eggs in the Markaviust Bryant basktet and he's taking our eggs to UGA

I think most of us are wanting a long lean pure pass rusher like Arden Key. We were so close to getting a ton of sack this year but always a step late or arms length short (Lawson)

I think will ignont could become that guy... I'm sure the ship has sailed on him, but he's got the look of a long/athletic DE.

None of Cowart/PJ3/Coe project as elite edge rushers but rather something closer to a SDE
I could see maybe PJ3 being a good pass rusher, but doubt any are great

Let's not pretend we know anything about Nick Coe until we actually see him in action

His HS career/early reports suggest he isn't a quick twitch speed rusher off the edge
He should be great, but his skillset would suggest more likely elite run defender than elite pass rusher

FWIW both PJ3 & Coe have been working at the buck

Is Alec Jackson not going to be a DE?
Posted on 1/4/17 at 5:19 pm to jangalang
We are going to need depth on the D line bad cause Gustard is going to 3 and out the offense about 90 percent of the time.

Anyone know how Ashley graded out at Under Armour week? I saw he wasnt in Rivals top 10 performers list

I think he had to move to guard. Ruh Roh

I was worried about how he would line up against the nations best. His HS competition is bad. I think he'll be fine just needs a year of practice with AU under his belt

Got a lot of praise for his physicality. Held his own in 1v1s but was never a stand out. FWIW he looked very good run blocking from guard spot. Guessing he will need some work on his pass pro but I think he could be that 6th OL as a freshman

Are Alabama, Auburn still in race for 4-star safety Devon Hunter? (AL.com)
quote:
Auburn hasn't dropped out of the picture for four-star recruit Devon Hunter, but there's a big void.
Hunter, a 6-foot-1 safety from Chesapeake, Va., is the nation's No. 45 overall recruit and No. 4 safety. He's in San Antonio this week for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which will be played on Sunday at noon on NBC.
He was close with former Auburn secondary coach Wesley McGriff, who is now the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss.
It's why that, for the Jan. 20 weekend, either Auburn or Ole Miss will get an official visit.
"When I was looking at Auburn and still am, he was the main guy I stayed in contact with, so when he left, it was big," Hunter said. "They're not slipping, but I still need to see. That's a big missing piece for me. The guy who isn't coaching me up isn't there, so I want to know who it is (going to be)."
Hunter has made several trips to Auburn, and the experiences there leave Auburn as one of his top schools.
"Auburn is a great school," Hunter said. "The defensive line is great and they're young. They ball hard. Everybody flies to the football. They love to compete and they play in big games. That's what I love about that."
But the one question he has about Auburn is who will coach the secondary. McGriff going to Ole Miss is now why the Rebels are in the picture.
"He's a great coach who loves his guys," Hunter said. "He coaches his guys up well. He knows a lot about football. He's been in the league so he knows what it takes to get there. That's what I love about him.
"It wasn't really disappointing (when McGriff left Auburn) because I understand. He's getting paid a lot of money to be a defensive coordinator in the SEC so that's big. I'm proud of him."

4-star Iowa receiver Oliver Martin intrigued by Auburn offer, planning visit (AL.com)
quote:
Iowa City, Iowa receiver Oliver Martin had limited his favorites to midwestern schools, but an offer from Auburn may throw a wrench in that.
Martin, a 6-foot-1, 188-pound four-star recruit, finished off a stellar career at West Senior High where he caught 239 passes for 3,449 yards and 33 touchdowns, topping 1,000 yards in each of his last two seasons.
Auburn receivers coach Kodi Burns took notice and the Tigers offered Martin recently.
"About two weeks ago, coach Burns started (direct messaging) me and getting in contact with me on Twitter and gave me a few phone calls," Martin said Wednesday at a U.S. Army All-American Bowl media day. "I got an offer from them and I may be taking a visit up there.
"I know they're a big time SEC program. They're traditionally good."
Martin will play for the West team on Saturday in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. NBC will televise the game from San Antonio at noon.
Martin assumed Auburn coaches saw his film and liked what they saw. He's planning a visit to Auburn for the weekend of Jan. 20, but it's not set in stone.
"One of the things the receivers coach was telling me is that they've got good quarterback commits," Martin said. "That was attractive to hear.
"They have no receiver commits right now, I believe. He was just saying (I could be) a premier receiver in this class and I could fit in anywhere."
Auburn does have a receiver committed in Hewitt-Trussville's Noah Igbinoghene, but Igbinoghene could do stuff out of the backfield. Auburn has two quarterbacks committed in midyear enrollees Jarrett Stidham and Malik Willis.
