Finally recruiting true safeties

That's a bigger than the avg safety. Most safeties in the NFL are not that big. In fact, it's pretty rare that one is that big. I'm not complaining by any means, but saying that's the size of a "true safety" is a bit off.

Look at a guy like Ed Reed, who will go down as one of the best safeties ever. He's 5'11", 205.

There's a certain quickness that's needed at safety. I'd hate to sacrifice size for that, but I'll obviously default to our coaches choices of who they take since I'm not getting paid big bucks to be a BCS coach right at the moment.

TIFWIW, but I just noticed on 247 that BM and Gerry Hamilton (regional/national expert) have their crystal ball projections for D'haquille Williams (which were placed in the last couple of days) to AU. I know its way too early, but damn I'd love for him to come to AU

Williams is a monster, I really hope LSU screws up and doesn't offer him. He gets homesick pretty easily from what I've heard so that is why he is waiting on LSU to offer. He wants to be by his mom and dad.

D'haquille Williams

Until we prove we have someone that can get him the ball, he's not coming here

Our biggest competition for him (LSU) doesn't have anyone 'proven' either, Mettenberger will be gone after this season

It's not as rare as you say. I'm sure his measurements are off like every player on the recruiting services (Whitehead, Bray, Robinson, Harrell, Garrett, Blackson, Uzomah, Bradley, etc, all shrunk an inch when they got to Auburn). But there are plenty of guys who are around 6'2 and 210+. I also expect him to drop some weight once he gets into a college S&C program. He's put on 20+ pounds since high school. That's not all good weight.

Adrian Wilson: 6'3 - 230
Dashon Goldson: 6'2 - 200
Kam Chancellor: 6'3 - 232
LeRon Landry: 6'0 - 225
Thomas DeCoud: 6'2 - 192
Daren Sharper: 6'2 - 210
Jon Lynch: 6'2 - 220
Sean Taylor: 6'2 - 227
Ken Hamlin: 6'2 - 206
Michael Lewis: 6'1 - 226

ETA: This list are only players who have made the pro-bowl recently.

If we get Williams, he will be the highest rated LB we've signed (assuming he hovers around the same ranking and he doesn't flip) since Blackmon in 2005.

The second closest one is Kris Frost around the 100th player depending on service.

(only used 247/247composite)

ETA: On Rivals, Frost was the #20 player, but I believe that was when he was listed as ATH and never updated to LB. Owens also clocked in at #128. Glad he spent 3 years on the DL.

He's a big guy. There's a dude over on The Bunker that coached him while at Prattville, and he has pretty high praise for him. Said his whole family are Auburn fans, he comes from a line of brothers that played D-1 ball, would've been recruited heavier if his grades didn't suck, and that he has a high football IQ. He's 6'3 220 pounds now (even though most is bad weight as mentioned by joeyb), and runs around a 4.5.

I wonder if we're after him for STAR or Boundary safety.

Just wanted to point out that this time next week, we'll be sitting with 6 commits from Alabama, all of them being from either Prattville or Mobile.

These times they are a-changin'.

Not really sure, man.

I was going to ask for your take on Derrick Moncrief with you being from Prattville and all.
