So does he *still* have to increase his ACT score?

Or does being enrolled for a year and passing his courses make him eligible?

BBeing enrolled for a year and passing courses will make him eligible for competition in 2017. That is unless something has changed as a result of failing

If true, then this doesn't really matter. He got almost a year's worth of practice time and we didn't burn a year of his eligibility.

A lot of talk that Purifoy doens't make it 4 years at AU because he has potential to go pro.

More importantly, Purifoy would have been a game changer that would help our program recruiting/identity. If he came in and lit it up, we could sell that. We still are selling Bruce not any product

Tate posted something to make it seem like this was more of an internal issue. He worded as being "overly cautious". Vague for sure, but he said not ACT's fault.

Maybe, but getting him for 1.5 months this season might have been worth 2 extra wins in a season we aren't going anywhere post season. I'll take that extra year in case he isn't good enough to declare early.

This is what happened according to JGT/somewhat supported by someone I know who works with BBall (he never talks too much specifics)

1-Purifoy got scores needed to clear
2-NCAA cleared Purifoy
3-Purifoy's score got flagged by ACT as potential cheating and investigation starts

**If ACT rejects score later, NCAA retroactively DQ's Purifoy. That is what happened to Derrick Rose and why memphis forfeited a final 4**

4-Auburn withholds Purifoy from competition as precaution
5-ACT rejects Purifoy's score retroactively DQ'ing him
6-Purifoy opts to retake test, he fails
7- Today Auburn finds out he failed and is done

Having a win% >.500 is more important than one extra year with him. That late surge would have a huge effect going into early signing period, plus give recruits a glimpse of what AU players under Bruce could do.

Plus, give much needed game experience and chemistry benefits by having him play minutes with the actual team not be a scout team hero

He wasn't getting us to .500.

I doubt it will have any impact.

There are certainly positives to having him play this year. I'm just saying, even had he been eligible starting today, it would be a close call as to whether to play him or not.

Him not playing the remainder of this season just isn't a big deal at this point.

As of right now, we will be lucky to make it to 11 wins, with Purifoy we could get around ~14 and maybe tournament wins

Early signing period is before anything real happens next year. That class is make or break for AU basketball with the talent in state

If we play & recruit well, we are going to have a scholarship crunch and plenty of Danjel Purifoy type players waiting to get in the game.

Getting us to play and recruit well now rather than later is a big deal though

Might as well sit out anyway why waste his talent by surrounding him with the shite show we have on the floor right now.

That shite show was pretty productive at the start of the year when we had other options besides shooting 30 3s a game. With DP we easily have 5 more wins this year and are playing for an outside shot at the bubble.

With DP, our 3 shooters are shooting open 3s all day. Think of what Ben Simmons did to us by drawing help defenders and then opening up his teammates.

Bowers could do that too except he bricks layups and misses FTs

Imagine if Bowers was 75% from inside the paint.

And Bruce can sell whatever he wants. Adding 2 wins to this season won't change that.

So much in state talent with AU connections and still good georgia talent, I think we will have to pass on kids we never could have gotten in the past.

If he was here from the start. Adding him now doesn't get us more than 2 more wins at best.

Thread title needs correction. We are 3-6 in SEC, not 3-7.
