Albies right now. I want to be sure the second half of last season was just a slump before I buy in.

Dansby was hyped more than Ozzie and has done less.

He was, but the hype on Swanson has cooled off a lot since the start of 2017.

Dansby might be somewhere else in 2020 if he doesn't have a good 2019 season

Who will play SS and play it well since we really focus on defense and have one of the best in the league, and a great SS is what a group of young pitchers needs?

Camargo? He has no range. He showed that in the playoffs against LA. He couldnt reach any balls to his left. Cost the team a few hits. Dansby would have gotten to all those balls.

Albies? He's a gold glove caliber 2b, and why would we move him to a harder spot defensively that he might not be able to play in the majors, and his second half offensively was just as bad as Dansby's.

Albies was 21 years old last year and was worth nearly 4 WAR. Most guys at that age are in A+/AA ball if they are major league-caliber players.

You have some very high expectations.

I really like him, I'm just concerned about the second half he just had, especially batting left-handed

Jamaal Anderson DE. 1st round draft pick in 2007. Was a colossal bust. 4.5 sacks and 105 tackles over 4 seasons. Yikes!!!!

There were some awful draft picks in that era. Chris Houston was another one

Someone that can hit hopefully. "one of the best defensive in the league" is a bit of an exaggeration and over hype for sure.

Dansby didn't drop off the 2nd half of the year he was just bad all year. Albies was still better except in September. Dansby was .277 in April and was a liability at the plate rest of the year.

Dansby: July .233 August .226 Sept .206
Albies: July .304 August .245 Sept .198

Swanson was absolutely one of the best defensive shortstops in the league last year by just about every metric, including the eye test.

Using batting average? Cute

2nd half of the season

Ozzie-.226/.282/.342, .274 wOBA, 67 wRC+, 4 HR, 5 SB, 6.7 BB%, 17.9 K%, .115 ISO
Dans-.213/.296/.376, .277 wOBA, 69 wRC+, 7 HR, 7 SB, 10.2 BB%, 20.7 K%, 163 ISO

Dansby got on base more(OBP), more power(higher ISO and SLG), had more stolen bases, play gold glove defense.

How many gold glove votes did he get? So you are pointing out OBP was .277 vs .274 really talk about cute.

Again the question was most overhyped. Dansby was hyped as rookie of the year. Did he get more votes for ROY or Gold Glove?

Rafael Palmiero won a gold glove for 1st base one year when he was primarily a DH. Jeter has a number of GG awards. The actual award doesnt mean crap.

You tried to move the goal posts with your argument. I only showed that for as bad as Dansby was at hitting last year, he was still better than Ozzie in the second half, and even if you say both were equal, they were both extremely bad.

Back to the very first argument. It was that if Dansby had another bad year, the person would want the team to look for another option, and I pointed out that after Ozzie's red hot first couple of months, the league figured him out big time, and he was just as awful as Dansby, which is true.

So we go back to the question I brought up when the discussion started. If you want to replace Dansby next season, who plays there?

Ozzie-its already been stated and proven that he had just as bad of a second half as Dansby in his first full season, and its not that easy to just slide from 2nd to SS.

Camargo-Is not a SS, and he showed that in the playoffs when he had to play for Dansby. He has no lateral quickness past his pivot step to get to balls. He is a great at 3rd because of his arm, and because he is great at charging balls.
