The team that just won MLS Cup almost moved to Austin for such a lack of support. In MLS, only Atlanta, LAFC, and Seattle operate at a level I consider to be “pro quality.”
College football is likely the second highest level of football in the world. Not the 8th best.
Atlanta United fans are a weird bunch. Instead of trying to be “part of the sports landscape,” they’ve decided to be their own faction of what has to be the biggest bunch of middle-class, hipster pussies I’ve ever encountered.
“Terminus Legion” is loosely translated to “pushed in a locker in high school.”

No they didn't. Precourt bought the team with the intention of moving them. He bought them in 2013, put forth no money to make the team better, then blamed everything under the sun as a reason to move the team to his beloved Austin (there was even a clause in the initial sale that said he could potentially move them to Austin).

That's because no other country cares about American football. MLS is closer to the best leagues in soccer than college football is to the NFL. And only being 8th best is pretty fricking good considering those other 7 leagues had a 100 year head start.

I'd venture to say that a lot of them are transplants to the area, still pull for their hometown MLB/NFL/NBA teams - if they were sports fans at all - and adopted the UTD as a way to have a tie to their new residence.
That's cool, but how about throwing some love towards the professional Atlanta teams that were representing the city 50 years before UTD came into existence? "Nah man, that's too mainstream."
The hate those same people show towards the Braves move to Truist is just hilarious to me. Those pussies were probably too scared to go to a weeknight game at Turner* and they damn sure weren't hanging out in Summerhill and Grant Park after Braves games at Turner.
*if they even went to baseball games at all, and if they did, they were probably wearing a Ryan Braun or whoever jersey from their "home" team.

Agree with all of the rest of your points, though.
Will say the Falcons probably have the most support in town, with Braves second and Hawks 3rd.
United does have its following,
but the aforementioned crowd of Liberal Arts majors with a mainstream vendetta just make it seem larger than it is.
Looking forward to the next Falcons, Hawks, or Braves run. That’s electricity in a feeling you can feel. That Super Bowl run in 2016 was wild.

I had some friends from college who got sucked into buying townhouses between Turner and the Olympic Torch because of those promises for green-space and other things that never happened, until ironically after the Braves left. Hell, I was jealous at my friends who bought those townhouses the time. Walking distance to every Braves home game? Sign me the frick up.
The only bad thing about Turner was it was facing the Goddamn interstate instead of having any view of the signature pieces of the Atlanta skyline, particularly the Capitol Dome.

Meh. They haven't won one since 2005, and MLS was in danger of folding in the early 2000s. 2 teams folded in 2002, and they only had 10 teams until they added 2 new ones in 2005. Some owners owned multiple teams. It was a mess.
MLS is usually at a slight disadvantage in CCL because CCL begins before the MLS season starts, but Liga MX is several weeks into their season. So MLS teams are still in preseason form while Liga MX teams already have several games under their belt.
Take this year for example. CCL started around Feb 19. Liga MX started in mid January while MLS started Feb 29.
Also, back around 2005, when Costa Rica last won CCL, Liga MX teams were still competing in Copa Libertadores. Pretty sure they valued Copa Lib over CCL back then. Mexico hasn't played in Copa Lib since 2016.

I hated the move because of the screw job to taxpayers and for the team to bitch about transit access at the Ted and then move to the most transit-averse county in Metro Atlanta. Also, Tim Lee (RIP) was not the greatest guy to work with.
At least if Hell freezes over and Cobb County decides to join MARTA, the Battery is in a prime area to have a station located there (most likely the rail line would go up the Cobb Pkwy corridor).

What else do you expect when you have the Atlanta-Fulton County Rec Authority, local hucksters in Summerhill, and a team that only stayed in Summerhill because they were gifted a stadium after the Olympics involved? Had 1996 not happened, the Braves would've decamped to Gwinnett County by the mid-90s.

Ironically, the best thing that ever happened to Summerhill since the 1960s was the Braves departing and the Ted/surrounding parking lots being sold to GSU. If your friends still own those houses, they should be in good shape.

The skyline view was pretty good, but the Braves screwed it up by blocking the view from the lower levels.
In retrospect, Centennial Olympic Stadium should've been built further north (near the Dome/GWCC area).

That comment was based on the Braves being in discussion with Gwinnett, this was around 1988-89 while the Olympic bid was gaining steam (once Juan Antonio said "...Atlanta", that move was dead since the Braves would move into the Ted after the Games).

Unfortunately, having COS/The Ted built in Fulton County Stadium's south parking lot for the purposes of expediency was never going to help this problem. Putting the stadium near where MBS is today with the outfield facing northeast would've been huge.

I was three years old at the time living in NYC, my uncle (who got transferred down to Atlanta in '83) told me that story years ago and I looked it up in the AJC archives. One of the post-Olympic bid win stories noted how the Games would "eliminate the possibility of the Braves moving to the suburbs." Oh how times changed.
IIRC, they were also talking to Cobb and Douglas as well.
