I’m sure many of you read talking chop. Here is a piece outlining the case for Kris Bryant.

It makes perfect sense to me. AA seems to have hinted that he can spend more. I think the only question is the “cost” in terms of what prospects are going? Send Riley, Ender, and who? Seems like Anderson, Pache, and Waters are untouchable.

quote:

For a man that is very careful and directed with his words and actions, Anthopoulos has always made moves that proved to be quite sensible over time. The timing, logic, and need for an acquisition on the level of Kris Bryant are very well aligned. Many around the Braves and their fans have strongly supported a return of the Toronto version of Anthopoulos that made franchise-altering moves every year. The difference between now and then is that Anthopoulos’s efforts in Atlanta have likely put him in a better position than he ever was in Toronto to confidently make the “go for it” move that will truly allow his team to matchup with anyone in pursuit of a World Series.

Imagine the opening day lineup with Bryant.

Acuña
Albies
Freeman
Bryant
Ozuna
Swanson
d’Arnaud
Ender/Cakes/Duvall

And then next year Pache/Waters in place of Ozuna and E/C/D

The asking price is going to be higher now that he lost his appeal re: service time. He wasn't expected to win it but it was a long shot.

Ozuna's outfield defense isn't terrible, so he could service as a corner OFer if say Ender + Riley get traded for Bryant.

There's still a lot of talent in the division. Right now I think holding on to what is in the organization sets up the Braves to make the move near the trade deadline for whatever the missing piece is. Injuries and underperformance are going to happen; I'd bet AA is waiting until closer to July 30th for that big splash move.

would rather have Arenado tbh. Both seem unrealistic for us

I think there is absolutely zero chance for Arenado with the massive contract and no-trade clause. It is likely he would opt out but I don’t see this organization risking that he doesn’t.

And I agree that it would be more likely to happen near trade deadline if it were to happen. You get a long look at the starting pitching to see if they truly look like they are World Series level.

After thinking about it, I want this to happen. Trading for two years of Bryant signals to me that the Braves are really going for it. As long as Pache and Anderson aren't involved, I think I can stomach the prospect cost to make this happen.
