Your approach to the subject on which we shall not discuss on this board, for fears of jinxing the season, is much more subtle than last years, but I’m tracking too
you rustled some serious jimmies with that thread last year

my favorite was CockCommander telling me to "go cum yourself"

It was a good one. It had been so long since we won it. Some serious pearl clutching went on
In other news Freddie now leads the MLB in RBI’s at 95.
Soroka has jumped Scherzer and is now second in the MLB with an ERA of 2.32 behind Ryu.
I shouldn’t have said Soroka’s name because I just got pissed again about Saturday night and our bullpen.

if you want to get really mad...
The Braves right now are 15-6 in games started by Soroka.
in the 6 losses, Soroka gave up the following number of runs. the final scores of those games are provided in ()
1 R, 1 ER (L 1-4, Soroka given the loss w/ 5 IP)
1 R, 1 ER (L 2-3, no decision w/ 6 IP)
2 R, 1 ER (L 3-6, no decision w/ 6 IP)
4 R, 4 ER (L 3-5, Soroka given the loss w/ 6 IP)
3 R, 3 ER (L 3-5, no decision w/ 7 IP)
0 R, 0 ER (L 6-7, no decision w/ 7 IP)
That's really just 1 loss where you can legitimately say that Soroka was likely the pitching reason for the loss. The team freaking lost 4 games where Soroka gave up 1 or 0 earned runs. Nuts.

Send this to Snit. Maybe he’ll let him toss a few more pitches and get a W, instead of giving his kid an undue L.

according to the guy over on the MSB, we gotta conserve innings.

This is just disgusting... starter pitches 7 scoreless innings... score 6 runs in total... lose game. This bullpen is going to be the death of me this year.

Yeah that’s just stupid. It can’t be white and black like Snit makes it. If he’s mowing through the lineup then leave him in. He’d be leading the league in wins if he was allowed to finish a few of those losses we took because Snit pulled him.

the irritating thing is that they took out Soroka not to conserve innings, but to pinch hit since the score was still 0-0 at the time...I think. Man on first, Joyce strikes out. Then, with Acuna hitting, there was a passed ball allowing the runner to get to second anyways lol. Could have just bunted with Soroka to move the guy over, score the runs like they did, and then have Soroka go back out and try for the complete game. he threw 80 relatively stress free pitches to that point. FFS.
You limit innings by skipping a start or extending an extra couple of days rest in September when you have it mostly wrapped up, not by sacrificing games during the season that are near wins.

From a story in The Athletic today:
quote:
If the numbers below continue, the Braves’ October residency will be brief. That assumes they’ll even make it.
Some of the ugly digits:
The bullpen’s ERA in August is 6.55. That ranks 25th in the majors, ahead of four last-place teams: Baltimore, Detroit, Colorado and Pittsburgh. Braves relievers this month rank 29th in batting average against (.338) and walks/hits per inning (1.91 WHIP).
Greene (11.25), Martin (10.38) and Melancon (9.82) own the three highest ERAs on the team. The only pitchers who’ve had higher ERAs this season are gone: Jonny Venters (17.36) was released; Huascar Ynoa (18.00), a 21-year-old prospect, is in the minors.
In fairness, Melancon has had only one catastrophic appearance: Saturday in Miami, when — as the closer du jour — he inherited a 6-2 lead in the ninth inning but allowed four straight singles and was tagged for four runs after Greene entered and yielded a single and double. Martin’s tenure started with a clean inning against Cincinnati. But he has followed that with four appearances for an aggregate of five runs, six hits, a homer and a walk in 3 1/3 innings.
Greene had 22 saves in 25 opportunities with Detroit. Even if 2019 metrics suggested his ERA of 1.18 with the Tigers wasn’t sustainable, nobody could have anticipated this series of meltdowns. He blew a save opportunity in his first game. He allowed three runs, four hits and a home run in his second. He was tagged for another homer in his third. In five appearances, he has blown two saves, taken a loss and allowed 11 hits and five runs in four innings. Opponents are hitting .550 (11-for-20) with an OPS of 1.491. With the Tigers, his BAA was .153 with a .504 OPS.
It’s like an alternate universe. Or a nightmare. Or a new reality.

Maybe we should just start with the bullpen, that way we know how many runs we need to get.

Hopefully the day off did some good and we can put a beat down on the no-good, stinking, rotten Mets.
