That's talking about being successful overall and winning games with a defensive minded coach. Not just having a good defense.

Remember earlier when I was talking about head injuries and brain tumors? Do you smell toast right now? Might wanna go to the emergency room.

You could say that about literally every candidate. Why are we looking at Norvell? Success elsewhere, right?

Look beyond wins and losses to find the correct fit. I have the same concern with Norvell as I did with Bielema - can he build a program? Thus far he's only proven he can maintain what his predecessor built.

No, I don't remember you talking about this because I don't really pay much attention to the stupid, childish shite you say.

You cannot deny the groupthink around here has been that Arkansas cannot field a great defense. It is stated daily.

This. Norvell could end up being the greatest coach of all time but there isn't much to base his ability on. Seems like he has a much higher risk of being a bust than most of the other names being tossed around.

You are really struggling here. No one has ever said we can't have a good defense. We've obviously had good defenses before. People are saying we wouldn't be competitive with a defensive minded head coach, which is accurate. They're talking about wins and losses, not just having a good defense. Hope this helps.

Butch Jones was very successful at one time...at Cincinnati. I like the idea of us hiring an up and comer but the #1 quality has to be our new coach's ability to recruit.

Wonder how Muschamp has been awarded the Coach of the Year honors by building a great defense at a school with fewer resources than Arkansas at South Carolina??

Not at all as of right now Norvell has the chance to be more successful than Fuente. Fuente lost 3 games his best year. Riley Ferguson, their starting QB who is breaking Lynch's records transferred when Norvell became the head coach. You can't be just maintaining if you're out doing your predecessor.

Ok. Norvell has shown he can take a program from performing well to performing very well. He hasn't shown he can build from where we are currently.

I think we need a coach with strong ties to Texas recruiting. If A&M doesn't hire Chad Morris we should.

But where are we currently?

I see a team that sends a whole lot of players to the NFL when I look at Arkansas. Even more than say, Auburn, over the last 5 years.

Personally I think the next coach here is going to find a team loaded with talent and ready to win a lot of games. Just, for whatever reason (and there are a lot of them), Bielema wasn't able to get it done.

This is troof right here. I understand the desire to get a guy with Arkansas ties. But the #1 prerequisite on the list should be extensive recruiting ties in East Texas.

Like, if we could get Chad Morris that should be a no-brainer.

Someone like a Venables would do well. Top 25 recruiter with extensive experience recruiting Texas.

Can we find an Arkansas guy that fits that bill? If so sign him up.

So stone is butt hurt at hog fans because a coach that never said he was coming here beat bama. The entire thing looks like Sexton was playing both sides in a win win for Gus and here we sit with nothing.

It was never going to actually happen.

Gus wanting a 10 year contract with 6 million per year is fricking laughable.

There may have been a few folks from the Cross Church Cult clamoring for him to get the gig, but it wasn't gonna happen. You have to have more respect for yourself as a program that to bend over for a dude who is clearly determined to sex your butt.

So Norvell is a top 25 recruiter now who has extensive experience recruiting East Texas?

Learn something new every day I reckon.

Neither has Gus, he's only maintained programs, never had to rebuild one.

Chizik trying to switch to a pro-style offense, defense first philosophy doesn't change the fact all the players on the roster were recruited for his offense prior to his taking over Auburn.

Chizik was the HC when all that was put into place the first time.
