Hard to say how much was genuine and how much was coached to him before hand by the SID from what stood out.

Mainly they difference between his, Bert's and Petrino's pressers. His was more like Nutt's in that he was talking about the history of the program, not that the program had little or none of consequence. He seemed to understand and respect it, maybe because he grew up following the SWC.

So check this column as being positive.

He seems to understand you have to have linemen on both sides of the ball and speed. Something it took Bert 4 years to figure out.

So again check this column as being positive.

Recruiting, we aren't focusing on Florida like Petrino and Bert, but we aren't focused primarily on Arkansas like Nutt.

I'm skeptical about his given % being 50% Texas, 25% Arkansas, 25% other. Yeah Chad there is not reason why you can't sign half your class from Texas, there is a reason why you shouldn't if these players aren't worth a damn at this level.

He about lost me on this until he mentioned he was spreading the entire staff around the state and they will be in contact with every school in the state. Now if true, this will be a positive for the program in that he will at least know about the guys at the smaller schools in the smaller conferences who have the talent and ability to compete in the SEC but do not get the exposure so you see them blow up at LaTech instead of Arkansas.

Definitely wait and see, but it sounds good.

Last major thing that stood out was him talking about actually reviewing the tape of the players on the team, remember Bert came in and said everyone got a clean slate and they weren't going to worry about the past. Obviously that was the first sign of Bert's laziness. Chad seems to be a high energy go-getter, I could have done without hearing the spiritual growth comment reminded me too much of Hatfield back then, Gus/Freeze of today.

He left that out there as an option not a requirement.

I don't have an issue with it.

Agree. I couldn't find one negative in that entire press conference.

Having a member of the staff dedicated to every high school in the state is brilliant. If his staff can manage this he will build a castle wall around the entire state in time.

This guy is a damn good coach. I expect big things from him.

Tom Herman made a comment when he took over from Charlie Strong at Texas that he wasn’t going to review any old tape of returning players—i.e., the clean slate approach. He was roundly criticized for that.

People forget this, but Petrino paid a lot of lip service to the importance of spiritual growth with respect to his players. At least Morris said, in effect, if the God stuff floats their boat, he’ll make sure to help their flagship can get to full sail.
