He was completely the wrong fit at Texas. What they wanted was a new Mack Brown. A glad handing smooth talker who would wink and nod at anything going on.

Ive always liked Strong. Whether he is our coach or not in the future, I was glad to see him get out of Texas.

I don't know if he'd be able to maintain his figure on a Pacific Northwest hippie diet

Venables

to me, this is the most interesting.
Hasn't struck it big yet as a HC, so likely hungry and obviously a proven defensive mind that can recruit

Don't you think it's weird no one has ever given him a shot at a HC job?

He's interviewed a TON. Not saying he'd be bad, just saying.

I think Strong could be very successful with the base that Bert has built here and would give a huge boost in recruiting.

certainly weird, but i think our best shot is finding a solid coordinator that will "own" the job.
He may not be it, but certainly an experienced coordinator that has won in and recruited in strong conferences.

I don't think we go the coordinator route. People with more $$ than all of us want someone proven.

I would be more than fine with Strong... But, unless he has changed his mind, it wont happen.

He wasn't treated with much respect with previous things at Arkansas.

I do find it a bit odd that he hasn't taken a head coaching job somewhere else. Is he being passed over or is he waiting for the right fit? As a man who is making $1.7 million, he has that luxury.

I agree that it is unlikely to go the coordinator route, but why not give it a shot if he checks the boxes?

I think there is something from OU, or some sort of situation that has hindered his chances.

Ed O had a good interview at LSU.
It works both ways.

It has been spoken about, on here in the past by others as well.
Charlie grew up fairly close to me, have been around him a bit in years past.

He is married to a beautiful white lady and that caused some racial tensions from some major douches back in the day.

He was looked over for jobs way more than other would have been. Although this was nothing new to him, he was raised around a biracial family as well. The dude is a good man with some toughness that we are sorely missing.

As for a "Hogville ITK cryptic post" if you love them, you are free to visit there often....

I always thought the line of thinking with Venables was that he was waiting on Kansas State?

If Mullen leaves that is who I would like though. Venables and a good OC and I think you are in good shape.

Bret is a good man. Doesn't translate to wins unfortunately.

So he's still bitter about things 20 years ago when this state was arse backwards and Frank was running show?

If you know the guy, that makes sense, not doubting you, just saying how recently prevalent has the disrespect been?

Don't see it in the current administration.

Were we the ones who turned him down and whatever happened with those affair accusations at Louisville?

You either forgot about "horns down" or you don't think it's that important.

Would our recruiting in Texas not take a nose dive if we hired Strong?

Can't get much worse than it has been.

We've pulled what, 2 major contributors in the last 4-5 years? One that can't even play anymore and one that probably isn't the best RB on our team this year?
