Today's PSA...stop for trains

No link, but this happened near my office this morning near the Little Rock Port Authority.
There are little spur lines for the trains down around here that offload and move freight that comes in on barges. The spur lines go across the roads, but the crossings don't have the arms that come down. A short train was going through the crossing when an 18 wheeler was approaching. The 18 wheeler decided to switch lanes rather than slow down and was going to go around the back of the train in the wrong lane. Of course when he realized there were vehicles waiting on the other side of the track he pulled back and hit the back of the train. The impact knocked a railroad employee off of the back of the train and the train car ran him over, killing him. Another life lost because someone didn't want to stop for a train. Going to be a sad day for that man's family when they get the call.
Edit...So, it seems as if some of the details have changed a little. The 18 wheeler wasn't changing lanes to go around. He just never saw the train and just plowed in to it. The locomotive was on the rear and pushing the cars across the road when they collided. The conductor was thrown off and the rail car ended up on top of him.
I wonder if he was supposed to be wearing some sort of fall protection device?

Frick that's awful.

That's terrible. I've actually been looking at the rail road as a possible landing after college.

What type of degree are you going for?

Corporate Communications. Honestly just going to get paid and to show everyone I'm somewhat smart. I just want to find a job I'm happy with and good benefits. I know the RR is a bit of work, long hours and traveling, but that would be ok. I could get hired now I'm sure, but like I said, it's better to go to school right now for me and spend more time with family.

Really?
A fall protection harness. It would have kept him from falling over the side or the front of the train.

It won't replace their lost loved one, but that family is about to be blessed with a gigantic insurance settlement.

My cousin was killed by a train. We have been trying to make Julie's law happen. Make it a law for all tracks to have the lights and crossing arms.

Nah. It's sad what happened to this man, but I think we all know you're not making fun of him.

Sorry to hear about your cousin. How long ago did it happen?

Wow. Never seen Pio say stuff like this before.
I don't think he meant it, and he realizes it.
