Never is a long time, have hope, we are signing a top 15 class on a 2-10 season.

That 11–2 season may have only been good for third in our division, but we finished #5 in the nation. If that's unsuccessful, I'll take being a failure.

What a ridiculous argument. Obviously finishing #5 in the nation isn't failure. Doing it one time in 25 years is.

I mean we played in a sugar bowl year before that. 3 years before that we were a muffed reggie fish punt away from an sec and possible national title appearance, 3 or 4 years before that we were beating texas in the cotton bowl, 3 or 4 years before that we made another sec title game appearance (even if we did get blown out by uga) the bottom line is this narrative is just flat out untrue. Before bielema we were good to make a run once every 3 or 4 years with about 1 bad and 2 mediocre years in between. Just like the majority of college football. Calm down chicken little the sky isn't falling just because we are in the sec we just made one really bad coaching hire in bielema

I agree completely. According to 24/7, which has us at #16, our recruits are averaging a ranking of 88.5. I think they begin rating 4* at 89.something. The teams above us are all averaging 89-93. So what is the actual raw talent gap between a high 3* and a low 4* recruit? At that discrepancy, I'd imagine the quality of coaching has a lot of sway. The fact that the two publications have our class at a difference of six spots is even more evidence to this all being an imperfect science.

For what it's worth, all seven of the SEC-W schools are within the top 20 on 24/7 at the moment. The rankings on rivals are similar, with everyone but in the top 20 but Mississippi State, who are currently #21. Four of the seven are in the top 10. This really just can't be helped, but it doesn't mean we can't be competitive.

It remains to be seen if we're going to continue recruiting at this level under Morris, or if this year is just a flash in the pan. Obviously, the recruiting rankings have correlation, and if we keep it up, seasons like that should be more frequent. I'm not making the claim that 11-win seasons just exist somewhere in the Æther, and us randomly catching one in 25 years establishes a pattern or is cause for hope. We have a glimmer of hope right now that Morris - who was known for his recruiting prowess prior to his hiring here - can replicate this feat during further, more successful seasons.

I know following simple, straight-line logic is tough when you're distracted bitching about everything, but you can do it if you really want to.

Eh. I've seen Arkansas play for titles in football. In the SEC even. It can be done.

People say it's all about the Jimmy's and Joe's, and not the X's and O's, but I disagree. It's about both. You don't get the Jimmy's and Joe's without the X's and O's coach.

Get the right coach and he can build teams to compete with the best. Petrino did it. I mean, we saw what someone else was able to do with his players -- not a damn thing. But for him, it worked.

Wonder what Washington State's recruiting classes have looked like. They have a team that plays above their star rankings.

We can have one of those too. And we will.
