The Mental Progression of a Late 80's Razorback Fan

I kind of remember in '94 when we won the National championship... I was 5 years old
I was 9 years old when the Stoernover happened
I was a Sr. in HS when Reggie Fish'd
I was a Sr. in college, in New Orleans, when we (didn't) scoop and score
I was learning how to trade bond bid/ask spreads and FX forward points right around the same time I was learning what motorcycle accidents really were all about
I was getting my MBA at the same time I finally connected an inverse relationship with head coach body weight and football success
I was on a flight from Honolulu to NYC yesterday, and the last thing I heard before we took off and I lost service was the Madrigal out (2 outs in the bottom of the 9th with a 1 run lead). I flew 10 hours thinking we had likely won a Natty. Then I landed and learned the truth...
My thought process and mental maturation has literally taught me emotional anguish, in chronological order, as an Arkansas alumni and die hard fan
I OFFER YOU THIS SPORTS GODS... I will drink myself absolutely stupid tonight, way before this game gets to the 3rd Inning to the point my 5 year old self will bask in the self-reflection he was able to attain compared to what I will do tonight, as long as we win. I give up all personal recollection of this day for the morbid irony that my aloof personal mental capacities are a proxy for our sport's success (because that makes sense). I've started keeping up my end of the bargain, now it's your turn...

The only thing that sustains me as a Razorback fan is the fact that I was a student at the time and got to witness that season firsthand. My best memories of my time in Fayetteville were that spring. I honestly would have quit at this point if it weren't for that.

That's one benefit of being older, I was in college when the basketball team was the best, so I have an embedded cocky aura that believes we just have to wait our time and we'll get there.

Just thought of something- I did go to church and light a candle before we won the 94 championship. Maybe I should do that tonight too. Hmm...

If your soul isn't clean and wick ablaze in the next 20 minutes I hope your next born has Tony Bua's height, Shawn Andrews' weight, and Fred Talley's eyes

Alright, all bets are off on my end. My attempted double hexes and reverse jinxes should have no bearing on the outcome. I'm a simple Hog loving soul and leave my part to the baseball gods.

Going to have to hurry to get some stuff done and get on the road but I'll do it.

I’m proud of what they accomplished, but they broke my heart last night.

one year before you were born, Steve Atwater dropped the interception at Miami

For the rest of my life I'll remember HNL to JFK losing a national championship

For more context, Miami was #1 and I believe we were a top 10 team. Atwater had a pick in the End Zone that would have sealed the win, but he dropped it. Next play, Miami kicks a FG to win. We also lost in the Cotton Bowl that season. Our only 2 losses.

I didn't even watch the game last night, I just listened to it in the background as I went about my routine. I knew the outcome. I'm 30 and my first real memory of watching Razorback sports was the Stoernover, if that tells you anything. If I had a choice, I wouldn't put myself through this.
But I don't. So here's to many more years of misery.

we were undefeated
Notre Dame and West Virginia were the only two other undefeated teams, and since we lost, Notre Dame knew they weren't going to the Cotton Bowl to play us
West Virginia's schedule that year was embarrassingly weak
