Alabama's special teams coordinator also coaches tight ends so he doesn't spend 100% of his time on it either and yet theirs is great because they have great players.
Yeah... well... I would nod and agree but you can't go more then a week without seeing a few threads on the main forum, from Alabama fans I might add, devoted to the subject of how shitty their kickers are. Crappy Alabama Kicker is pretty much a meme in the SEC now.
Their special teams play is better then ours, but so is Army's at this point. Its not just having superior players, because even with superior players Alabama has had major issues.
Yes, we need better players, but we also need to be able to coach those better players to do their job.

I mean they were a 1-11 team when he got there. There's only so much you can do within the timeframe he was there. I'd wager kickers weren't that high on his list off the bat.
Our specialists are bad, but people are referring to a lot more than them when they criticize our special teams. Basically, some of coverage is coaching but more of it is having enough good players to play some on special teams. We don't, thus we suck at it. We saw a notable improvement covering punts last week and it's no coincidence that we were playing more starters in that unit.

Correct. Arkansas has good special teams when historically starters take ownership of those units and roles. We also had an electric player or two at those times to pose a threat. We don’t have many starters on the team taking ownership of anything and we certainly don’t have accountable specialists kicking/punting.
The last coach not emphasizing speed from his strength and conditioning throughout the program along with not having a STC while playing a lot of walkons/blueshirts/previous walkons on STs is how you get to this epically bad level.

I'm not sure why you would use Bama as an example of special teams not mattering when the majority of their losses over the last decade have came down to special teams play. Kick 6 anyone?
Saban has been notorious for having walk on kickers while at Bama.
Nutt had walk ons kicking for him the majority of his time here, yet put a long snapper on scholly, even with his punt "catcher" philosophy his special teams weren't any where near as bad as Bert's and Chad's have been/were.
Shibest could easily be had from directional Illinois U or wherever he landed with the rest of that staff.

No thank you. Bring John Lol back to be ST coordinator. He was great at it.

Hire the North Texas special teams coach - Marty Biagi.
He was a grad assistant here under Petrino.
