With that said he's still a better NFL pick than Smith

I somewhat disagree. Although I think Boyd does fit better in a downhill pro scheme, I think the NFL puts so much value now on versatility, especially in backs. Smith to me is a James White, Sproles type. Primarily a pass catcher who can also run hard if he has to, but his best asset is space and elusivness and making 1st downs in the open field. He has very good awareness on the field.

I could easily see him as a lower-mid-round pick who shines in an offense that utilizes a lot of screens and draws.

Smith should also be a staple for our 2 point conversions. They have continuously shite the bed there. I'd just go copy the old New England playbook for 2 pt conversion plays because they're one of the best teams I can remember in those situations. And they featured a lot of plays to a 3rd down type back and receivers in space.

I would go with Smith as the starter but give Boyd plenty of carries. Boyd isn't up to game speed yet. He started off fine but seemed to slow down as the game went on.

Which is what you will get when a player isn't up to game speed. Let him play himself into shape.

Better to have two backs you have to pick from then be scouring the locker room for anyone that can carry the ball.
