My best friend is in ICU in central Arkansas with Covid and pneumonia. His oxygen levels haven’t been good today at all. He is 33 with no prexisting conditions in good health. This is not intended to be a Covid/vaccine post, my friend just needs some prayers right now.

Which hospital? I work at Baptist. If I can help in any way Ill certainly try.

Prayers

Appreciate that CFB! He’s at CHI in Hot Springs, he ate today and they are lowering his Airvo to breathe on his own and have him on his stomach since he has pneumonia. He’s made some progress

Sounds positive

Now I’m curious whether CFB is the doctor at baptist who’s Facebook post I saw shared yesterday. I swear that dude read this thread with his comments on vitamins etc.

I hesitate to even post it here because I don’t want to make hogwarts anymore worried than he is- if that’s possible. The doctor is just stating when it gets to a certain point and Hogwarts post was positive today so more prayers he continues that upward swing.

Posted this morning, 8/5/21 by Dr. Gregory Scott Harrington

I decided to post an update due to the dire nature of the crisis and for full transparency as the numbers are changing. Not due to any comment as I blocked all of those.

Since my post on July 28 I have had at least 3 fully vaccinated patients die, and another will by the weekend. Ages of 90, 84, 77, and 86. I am thankful that all died peacefully. All had complex medical conditions that led them to get vaccinated in the first place. By their history, 2 were infected by unvaccinated family members. 1 possibly by a vaccinated family member, and 1 had no obvious source. Meanwhile, we have lost a 28 y/o, a 29 y/o, a 43 y/o, a 33 y/o, all young fathers and mothers as well as many others. I believe over 15 covid deaths in a week. 2 just this morning. None were vaccinated and all of whom were shocked that they got that sick in the first place. All died despite receiving excellent care from the same medical team who has successfully treated and discharged thousands over the pandemic. And there have been over a hundred deaths across the city, several at Children’s hospital.

What a lay person doesn't realize is that once the tide of covid pneumonia starts coming in, and it overtakes a person, they often drown no matter what you do. There is no amount of steroids, antivirals, antibiotics, vitamins, ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine (you name the treatment) and ultimately vent support, dialysis or even ECMO can hold the tide back. And it is an indescribable panic- stricken look on someone's face when they can not breath. Please don't let this happen to someone you love. The numbers of deaths that will be reported in the coming days are going to be even more shocking, if we can even be shocked about them anymore. Our hospital, as well as all of the other hospitals in the Little Rock/North Little Rock area is completely full. It has been all week. We can not get to any other sick people because covid patients. Horrible week to have a heart attack or a car wreck. That isn't hyperbole, it's reality. So please strap in and don't do anything strenuous. We don't have room for you.

Patients have been lying in our ER for over 24 hours before getting to a room, many in the hallway. And school is starting back and some parents are upset that their kids may be asked to wear a mask, for their own protection and to simply keep school in session. And take whatever you want and believe will help you before you get to us and can't breathe. We're all for it. And I'm a strictly inpatient doctor so get the outpatient advice you need from someone who knows you well like your PCP, who trust me, is fighting just as hard as we are, it doesn't want you in the hospital anymore than we do. That's enough. I'm late for work. I was on call last night and am slow getting back in. I have 10 covid patients to go see, many of whom I hope to send home soon. Many of the over 60 we have won’t.

One last thought, praise and admonition: We can tell that so many are praying for us. Thanks be to God for that, we desperately need it and we praise Him for you. And pray for those that have lost loved ones. They are heartbroken. But for my fellow believers who might read this and are still on the fence: Please stop praying about whether you should put a mask back on or get vaccinated. You should. To save your neighbor or friend. Not to mention yourself. Inaction is action. Don't let anyone else drown while you are kneeling on the beach. Jump in and rescue and save, praying for protection as you do. The tide has risen to that level, and your neighbor is drowning. And if that statement makes you angry, pray about THAT because that anger is NOT from the Father. And if it still makes you mad, then it's going to take a miracle or a tragedy to change your mind. I pray for the miracle. If you trust Jehovah-Rapha -The God that heals- like I do then trust Him to protect you from any ill effects from the vaccine. God bless you and keep praying that He saves us from this horrible nightmare. Please think and pray about this, rather than comment. This is not the place or time for debate. We're past all that. It is my plea for the health of you and your family whether you realize it or not.

The first wave was a slow rising tide. This wave has come up like a tsunami all at once. Most people including myself thought covid was pretty much over several months ago. Now many hospital systems are getting caught with their pants down.

We'll see where this one peak out but the rate of rise has been alarming.

Nah I’m a nurse practitioner. That isn’t my post but it was beautifully articulated.

I was super hesitant about the shot at first for multiple reasons. First I had Covid back in May 2020 so I felt protection from that and was in no rush to get vaccinated. Secondly I didn’t think it would work. I never thought it was some conspiracy for the government to implant data in us all, but I just didn’t think they could do it. I mean, hell, the flu has been around a million years and the best we can get with a flu shot is a “guess” every year. And you’re telling me they came up with this COVID vaccine in 6 months and it’s gonna work? bullshite I said. So I waited.

Then I started to notice something.....the vaccine numbers on the ADH website kept going up, yet the COVID patients coming to the ER by and large were unvaccinated. So then I started digging a little more (breaking a few HIPPA laws in the process) and looked at our COVID ICU; I couldn’t find a single one that was vaccinated. But with 35% of the population vaccinated, that means roughly 35% of our ICU Covid patients should be vaccinated too...but they aren’t. Well I’ll be damned. It’s working. So I got my shot middle of June. And knock on wood I haven’t grown an extra arm or glowed in the dark yet (I think my wife is secretly hoping my schlong grows an inch or two)

The vaccine may kill us all in 20 years, but it’s working at preventing severe illness right now. Also, this isn’t to say that Zinc/Vitamins/Ivermectin/HCQ shouldn’t be used as an outpatient. I’m a big believer in it and think if people were prescribed this as soon as they were diagnosed it would greatly improve things and keep people from getting so sick so fast

How many of your COVID ICU patients are first time infections versus reinfections?

Most are all first time infections and most are under 60.

Without going into my background of my education (not that it would mean anything to many of you), but the rapid vaccine development was the product everybody possible throwing everything they could at it, and ALLOT ALLOT of luck. Mostly entirely new techniques were used to create vaccine candidates (possible vaccines) for testing, then testing designed to be absolutely as rapid as possible. Then we got incredible lucky in that the candidates out of the lab worked, and not only worked, but worked far better than was remotely hoped for. Initially it was "hoped" a vaccine could reach 50% effective, meaning half of people protected. What we got was 90-95% for the very first tries. That all adds up to damn lucky. Oh, and no vaccine is absolute. There is some failure rate with every one of them. The goal is that you make enough immune that whatever your vaccinating against on averages infects fewer people than what is needed to replace the currently infected. One thing joe public does not understand, is that the flu virus is completely different from Covid, completely different from small pox, etc etc. They may all be viruses. But cats are animals and so are fish, and jellyfish. However, they are not alike. Therefore each vaccine is different, and how your body response to each virus varies.

Yeah was about to post on here. He is in a regular room and he is feeling much better. He is only wearing the nasal cannula right now but his oxygen levels are really good. I anticipate he is discharged tomorrow or Tuesday. He is beyond ready to be home. Appreciate everyone’s kind words and prayers. Hog fans are the best

been praying and thinking about him, as well as others suffering at this time.

2 funerals in the coming few days!

This is much rougher than many want to make it out to be.
