ohn Fagg, assistant AD, has called me just to lay out, just to kind of touch base deal. Nothing big. But I don't know. I think they're down the road a little bit. I think they've zeroed in on a few guys, and again it's probably still early. By you don't know, this is a very important hire. We all, of course, love Arkansas, and right now boy this is a turning point. This is going to be very, very important.
"And recruiting, I wouldn't worry too much about a lot of the de-commits. I get a lot of people calling me, 'Coach, we've lost 12 players.' Well, that's going to happen because you don't know who your leader is, yet. But that can change. And the other thing is Arkansas, I think, is important. That's first and foremost is the state of Arkansas and make sure the coaches up there, Barry Lunney and other coaches, are making sure they're still touching base with those guys."
Bazzel went on to ask if Nutt would be interested, if not offered the head coaching position, in being involved with the athletic department possibly in some sort of advisory role.

"Yeah. You know what, absolutely, absolutely. And when you grow up as a little boy in the state of Arkansas going to Little Rock games, Calling the Hogs and putting on a red jumpsuit to be a ball boy, and then getting to play for the Razorbacks, then getting to coach as an assistant, and then a dream come true getting to lead the Hogs down that ramp."
Nutt went on to say he would only want to come to work if it's a fit but that he'd love to have a role whether it's talking football with fans and boosters like R.C. Slocum did at Texas A&M after coaching or helping in recruiting.

Nutt just for his passion alone should be involved with the program in some fashion. He alrwdy has a national cable TV gig,let him keep it and expose the prof am.

Just make him a liason like Spurrier, give him an office. Let him go to practice and give the players pep talks and go to Arkansas high schools and find some unpolished diamonds.

Exactly. He'd clearly love a position like that and we might as well let him do it. I can't see how it could hurt us and it might wind up helping us.

While I appreciate the shout out, that article wasn’t from me so I can’t take credit for causing a meltdown.

Houston Nutt looks out for Houston Nutt only. I’d assume keep Lunney as have that piece of trash running our program again.

I have never been a "Nutt hugger". Not by a long shot. But I agree. He is good recruiter, great motivator, and would be very useful in that capacity. Specifically.

I think we should let bygones be bygones and let him do some heppin'. And he could bring in DMAC to hep him with the heppin'.

I mean, time (and losing bigly) has definitely helped heal that wound, but that's a bridge too far.

Back in 2007 I was terrified at the very real possibility of Nutt being the successor to Broyles and becoming AD upon JFB's retirement. The guy is a salesman and has a pretty loyal and vocal base – there's a ton of risk associated with bringing him back into the fold in any capacity however minor or ceremonial it might be.

You need only look at what happened at Tennessee with Fulmer's coup 2 years ago to see just how quick and disastrous that can be.

All of this.

Plus, he got off the phone with Fagg and immediately advertised he was contacted. He didn’t spill anything important (or wasn’t told anything) but I would think some discretion would be advised.

I'm not saying he needs to be running the football program. Not at all. But he does have some qualities that could be utilized to our benefit. And I didn't think the guy was a good head coach at Arkansas or Ole Miss.

He kept making the same coaching mistakes. But his ability to motivate and recruit never was a problem.

Sure it was. It was just a lot less of a problem when he knew his job was in jeopardy.

This would be the most Arkansas thing to do.
That Rabid Weasel would finish burning the program down.

He'd pull a Fulmer and sabotage his way to the AD within 5 years.

We'd have to keep one keen eye peeled on him. Hootie can definitely be a slick one.
