One game, I learned last year not to hit the panic button.

Yep, I might get really close if they give a performance like that at home next weekend against Minn.

I almost forgot to do the Gamethread today.

Kikko Haydar is on the call.

Still unclear what happened.

Not a good sign for the SEC season to come.

We need another guard, badly.

I still think Beard is the achilles heel of this team. Dude plays hard but still doesn't understand that his role is not a shooter. He needs to penetrate and dish, play defense, and be a leader not a shooter.

He hits some big shots every now and then and we need him to add some points.

We just need another guard to spell him IMO or another wing guy to truly step up.

Gafford needs to get to the point where he's playing more than 20 minutes.

In the game of basketball, it is extremely important for a point guard to be able to knock down shots from the perimeter. Everything about the game is winning a one-on-one battle with your man. Whomever is guarding Beard has to fear his ability to hit a jumper.

I'm not saying he needs to shoot 15 three pointers per game, but he has to be a scoring threat or it becomes much harder for him to take a defender off the dribble. The strongest part of his game on offense should be taking the ball into the paint and dishing to people down low as the defense rotates to pick him up. That means he should occasionally shoot a deep jumper, and occasionally take the ball all the way to the bucket. Both of which he is currently doing.

Anton Beard is the second most improved player on our team this year behind Jaylen Barford. I am very happy with his game as it is right now. IMO he should change nothing.

Agree with you.

Although not sure how much he's "improved". He significantly regressed after a stellar freshman year.

He seems to be more to that level, hopefully he continues to improve.

He always had that Corey Beck potential feel to him.

I want Garland to be cleared.

I think he has improved tremendously over last season. His game is back where it was at when he first got here, IMO.

I'm just guessing here, but I think all that legal trouble he had had a pretty significant impact on his game his second and third season. It looks like he is finally putting that shite behind him.

ETA: I'm also hoping against hope that Garland is cleared to play. We need one more guard on the court. If we can get that, this team will be hell on wheels.

I disagree with the whole "point guard has to knock down shots" deal. It's a plus but not a necessity.
Beck couldn't shoot for crap... sure he hit a few but his best shot was 15 footer around the FT line. True PG's are distributers..... ability to shot is of secondary importance.

I'm not very knowledgeable on his situation but is there even a chance of this. Feels like the longer it goes the less likely he plays.

If a point guard is going to play to his maximum potential he should be able to knock down a 3 now and then.

He also needs to shoot like 80% or better from the foul line.

These things just make the job of getting into the lane easier for him. Not a necessity I guess, but I still want a guy who is confident enough in his game to throw up a shot in someone's face from time to time. Even if he misses the shot the defense is going to respect his abilities enough not to just play 6' off the guy with the ball. Which makes getting to the bucket much, MUCH more difficult.

He has been looking at a mid-December time frame this whole time. Got my fingers crossed. I don't think the prognosis is good.
