We've got 3 starting D lineman in the NFL right now..
All 3 of whom are from Alabama.

The point is, we can recruit guys that can succeed.
They don't have to be from in state.
Didn't burt swing and miss on a starting DL at bama from NWA? Or was that Bobby?

I get your overall point, but I'm just solely looking at the production output from Arkansas high school football and highlighting the fact that we produce far more skill players than linemen and have for a decade or more.
We'll produce decent to good linemen here and there, but not enough to be deep, or at least deep enough from an SEC standpoint.

We would have to cast the net far and wide to bring in linemen.
We produce talented skill position players well out of proportion to our population, but you need the big uglies to grind it out in the SEC.
I'm almost at the point of saying to hell with it and advocating for the triple option. We won't win very much but we will have the grim satisfaction of teams dreading to play us because of the lineman we will injure running that scheme.

I may be wrong, but when Nutt was good we had quite a few low rated OL from in state. Some of our best OL have come from in state.
Shawn Andrews, Brandon Burlsworth, Jonathan Luigs, Stephen Parker, Mitch Smothers, Grant Cook, etc.

what are you talking about? cause it ain't based in facts. we've always had atleast mediocre lines until Bielema and even most of his were mediocre. I'm not looking for an Alabama linr. I'm shooting for averaging less sacks than we do touchdowns a game.

No, please don't do this
Why?
He was very successful at Louisville and is undefeated at USF.
You're an idiot if you hold the UT fiasco against him.
I think he's a great fit and would have a shot to be much more successful than others here.

his dedication to a good offense is questionable at best

Because college football pageantry says you don't take a fricking Texas retread.

If we're being honest...I don't think his offense would be much worse than what we have seen so far this season.

No one gives a shite about your glory days, I 'member nonsense.
Literally 90% of the fanbase doesn't even recall when it was a "rivalry" aka Texas beating our arse.
We've been shite for 30 years. Time to let reality sit in and accept 1964 was half a century ago.

Let's just ignore the fact that Texas is our main recruiting ground then. Hopefully we can grab up Kiffin and keep those Florida ties strong.

He recruited the #10 and #7 classes nationally there?
What is your point man?

Some of that is scheme related and due to Markuson's zone blocking philosophy. Also, that list spans over a decade, and that's the point. We produce a good lineman here and there, but not the volume and frequency that would support a power system predicated on great line play. Inversely, we frequently produce a good number of skill players despite the size of our state.

Indeed. We need a system that emphasizes our strengths and downplays our weaknesses. I joke about running the triple option... but what we need to run is a system where you do not have to have elite lineman.
We aren't producing them. We do produce skilled players out the ying yang. Go with what we do.

Sure, but now look at the good teams that Arkansas has fielded in the past.
1998: Burlsworth, Abernathy, Garrett(3/5 starters were from in state)
2006: Luigs, Smothers, Parker, Garner(3/5 starters were from in state, multiple rotated)
2010: Cook, Freeman, Oxner, Grayson, Smothers
2011: Cook, Freeman, Smothers
Normally, if Arkansas has a good squad it has quite a few starters on the OL from in state.

I get where you're going, but there are some caveats.
That 2006 line had one of the best backfields in SEC history running behind it.
The 2010 line was okay, and helped pave the way for Knile's 1000 yard year and mostly kept Mallett upright.
The 2011 was complete arse. Tyler Wilson probably mails each of them a bag of dogshite regularly.
