I was just over at hogville and as per usual they are screaming about firing petrino and want long fired for it.

Do you guys reamly agree that long shouldnt have fired petrino for his behavior?

Now im not asking for your opinion on long as a person or an ad, and im not asking if he made a good decision in hiring jls.

Just this simple. Do you think bobby needed to be fired for repeatedly lying to long re: jd.

Personally i think it was a no brainer. Noone wants an employee they cant trust.

He had to be fired. He hired his mistress to a state job.

If he had not hired horseface, BMFP is still coaching at Arkansas.

If he had not gotten into the wreck, BMFP would have self-destructed in some other form or fashion and it would have seriously hurt the program then.

The guy is a trainwreck. We just need to get a good coach and move on.

They're either grasping at technical semantics or they haven't ever been in a large organization. That's a very common practice, you find and offer a job to the applicant you choose but the paperwork is signed by someone higher up.

BP deserved firing. I hate that he comes out looking like a freaking magician now.

Maybe it was so good he wanted to share it with recruits

Either way the ville is largest collection of idiots on any message board in the world.

I tried to explain this to.the crazies on RT and was told that I didn't know what I was talking about. They came to this conclusion despite the fact that I've been a corporate recruiter for 3 of the top 20 Fortune 500 companies as well as the CDC. I'm pretty sure I've interviewed/hired more people than that entire board combined and definitely on a larger scale. But what would I know because I'm not agreeing with their obviously right opinion.

I've been told on there that I'm not just wrong but that if I would just take the time to talk to any attorney, the attorney would explain to me that they could and should have kept Petrino. Petrino did nothing wrong.

I am an attorney.

He practically begged to be fired with his actions. There was no choice but to fire him. I've tried explaining this on Hogville--why do I still post there?--but the mouthbreathers over there just repeat that this is all Jeff Long's fault and not BP's.

That sums up our message boards in a nutshell. They only hear what they want to hear and then run with it.

Let's see...

1) He hired his mistress over more qualified candidates.
2) Without disclosing his personal relationship with the candidate, he asked Long to get an Affirmative Action waiting period waived so they would avoid "possible recruiting violations."
3) After his accident, he lied to his boss.
4) Based on his inaccurate statements to his boss, the University put out a statement repeating those lies.
5) He went on national TV as a representative of the University, and repeated those lies to the media, the team, potential recruits, Alumni, and the fans.

I don't see how any rational person could look at these things and think he shouldn't have been fired.

I'm one of those who hoped that BP would not be fired but BP gave plenty of reason to be fired and was. I don't believe he necessarily had to be fired. As much as I disagree with Jeff Long's decision and don't like it, he was fired and we have to move on. Will BP make the same type of mistake in the future? I doubt it but that's irrelevant.

What is relevant at this point is that Jeff Long needs to hire a really good coach, otherwise, I believe his job could very possibly be in jeopardy. I'm just really hoping that he succeeds, regardless of my severe lack of confidence in him doing it alone. If Jeff Long takes it entirely upon himself to find the best coach available, disregarding any outside input, I'm afraid the next few years might be very difficult to watch.

I agree with what Long did. I don't see how he had any choice.

If there was a way long could have kept him then we would. He's a proven winner.
