This is a huge issue I have with Long.

Petrino's contract was arguably warranted because it was after the Sugar Bowl. It also helped to quell some of the negative recruiting against him due to his past.

Bielema's was a completely moronic and unnecessary move.

I agree with you completely on Bielema's contract. Honestly, it seemed like the thought process was "Everyone is throwing money around, so I'm going to do it too..."

I would take Jim Tressel in a heartbeat

Me too but I think Tressel is happy as an administrator and he's an Ohio guy anyway. However, I would gladly take the coach he has hired who is on the verge of a national championship (Bo Pelini).

So, I would be out on Art Briles

Me too. He deserves to be blackballed from the profession. What he did was reprehensible and even more despicable than Petrino's illegal activity that got him canned.

Agreed. Petrino earned the huge buyout and it was good for the program in some ways. I think Long had extreme confidence in Bielema for some reason and couldn't imagine a scenario in which he would be this embattled at this time. He really thought Bielema could deliver what he boasted of. Of course that doesn't explain why the buyout is so small on Bert's end so I'm speculating.
