My question is how much of a say does our new AD have in the hire?

I would think he had a say, I bet he put his influence in Saturday when all the comitee was with him.

You don't hire a guy to have no say. I would assume the new HC was HEAViLy discussed during his job interview. Also, who knows how long he has been AD. By flight tracking, he was has been on the job for over 24 hours and was probably in NYC today.
The BoT probably had some ideas of who they wanted (obviously) but a guy with that kind of track record of hiring football coaches does not get any say in the matter, especially when his job performance is directly tied to the new HC... Otherwise no one would take either job of AD.

We do known one thing though...it ain't Venables, unless that Conway stop this morning was a job interview, then they headed to NYC for a couple more.

Venables didn’t get into town until early afternoon. That Conway stuff was last night. We aren’t hiring a coordinator.

If anybody has the tail numbers for Memphis, SMU, and FAU’s planes odds are you can figure it out by reviewing whose plane came home early.

Pretty sure you flying commercial if you coach at those three jobs, or in a disassociated boosters plane in SMU's case.

I was wondering this too since he evidently loves Kiffin, but Mr. Jerry does not, & since JJ is the one with the money, does he trump the new AD? And is there going to be a hold-up with the hiring if those two are in disagreement?
