Malzahn leveraged Arkansas' interest for a big fat raise and a 31M buyout.
The wheels are off at Auburn and he's in like his 4th year after inheriting NC championship caliber players from Chizik (in fairness he did help recruit most of them).
We got a coach that clearly has managed to NOT lose the team and in fact is winning some hard cases over (see O'Grady). The offensive system is starting to work enough even with really slow players that don't fit it to look like the right thing for the future. We need to hang on to Chavis in my view as the defensive turnaround is actually stunning year over year.
In short...Auburn is stuck hating their coach (for the most part) and looking at robbing Ft. Knox to get rid of him. Where will Gus go? Pac 12?
I just think in 5 years we have a chance to look really really smart. Especially if the recruiting builds upon itself as it should.
We'll see :)
He's converted me along with O'Grady. Like many I was ready to throw in the towel after Colorado State (still no reason to have lost that one), but what I've seen since then wins me over. Most coaches would have lost control after North Texas. We're getting better and making progress behind the scenes and in recruiting.
My hat is off.

Was planning on trolling with this exact train of thought.
Ya know, GOBN partnered with Gus to do work on Auburn

Yeah at least if Morris bombs he’s fireable, wouldn’t be the case with Malzahn and he’s be making twice as much.

All this thread does is make me feel really sorry for Gus and Auburn.

Hell, I said before the season that a good Auburn team could easily go 8-4 with that schedule and they all reacted like I'd told them Eastern Michigan was going to win the national title. I also predicted they'd have a ton of buyer's remorse.
Well... they still have Bama and Georgia coming up and the Auburn fans are not exactly singing the praises of Gustavus.

The only thing that would have been worthwhile if we stolen Gus would have been trolling rhe Auburn fans. I kind of feel like we will be able to troll harder now.

Meh, they’re still a lot better than us. I don’t feel sorry for anyone.
