So when I say let's start with 3 straight years of winning a bowl game.... That doesn't seem so bad

That's like an NFL team saying they're going to focus on winning their preseason games

START with.

If we had gone to and won 3 straight bowl games would you or would you not feel better about where we are?

Obviously it's not the big picture goal. It's like learning to drive a car. You have to learn how to take the country roads before you drive through Dallas

Winning 3 straight Memphis level bowls to go 7-6 wouldn’t do anything for me.

Bowl games mean nothing now. I'm not exaggerating - literally nothing. Good teams don't even want to participate in some of the better ones. Good players definitely don't. I wish it wasn't that way but it is.

I'd feel good if we had won more conference games. The bowl games would have no impact on my outlook. Sam beating Penn State and Kansas in pretend games are a big part of the reason we kept him 2 years too long. Our fanbase and administration need to accept that these games no longer mean anything.

You're telling me finishing 2-10 would have you feeling the same way as 7-6?

If that's the case then so be it. I personally feel like there would be a difference.

For one we would be fed up with ONLY winning 7 games. That's an improvement.

What does that 7-6 mean?

3 rent-a-wins and a scrimmage win to end the season?

So we went 3-6 in legitimate games. 2-6 vs teams we have to compete against year in and year out. That's not an achievement. It's better than going 0-8 but the difference isn't as huge as you're making it out to be.

I'm not saying it's huge, at all. I'm saying it's a starting point that's better then 2-10

I think our starting point/baseline should look something like this...

Win your non-conference games. You get an exception if you have a nonconf game vs an opponent that finishes ranked in the top 25

Go .500+ vs the teams you play from the below group:

Vandy, Mizzou, Kentucky, A&M (I know they are good right now, but this is a completely backward and retarded program that should never be feared, regardless of $), Ole Miss, Miss State, South Carolina

Win 1 game from the following:

Texas, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida

If we did that since 2018 our record would have been:

8-4
8-4
-skipping covid year-
7-5
8-4
7-5
7-5
6-6

So....

An average of 7.2 wins.

We're really arguing about winning 6 or winning 7?

I think one of the biggest things moving forward is who the p4 we schedule is.

For now we shouldn't be scheduling Notre Dame, Utah, etc

It should be Boston College, Northwestern, Minnesota, Kansas State, Purdue. Schools in the same type of class as where we currently are.

Have several seasons of winning 8-9 games and then move up in competition.

Huh? We are arguing about winning games vs scrimmages

Your math comes out to an average of 7.2 wins. I'm talking about winning 6 regular season games.

Honestly you could on average end up in the same bowl game either way.

We're saying the same thing

What I'm saying is you have to look at what the wins are specifically

Going 6-6 plus bowl win in a year where you don't play any good teams out of conference, that's a failure. Even though you got to 7 wins.

The covid year where we went 3-7 was a better outcome for the outlook of the program than most liberty bowl type seasons.

Yes especially with the 9 conference game schedule.

Is it still going to be a requirement to schedule a p4 team?

Yes. Which to me even more so makes the 7 win number an even bigger thing.

There are years where you'll have 5 away sec games and your p4 game (which there should be NO REASON for that game to be away in the same cycle as the 5 away SEC games)

The minute the 9 game SEC schedule dropped we should have called Utah and backed out of the contract, then called Boston College and sad you suck, we suck, lets suck together and do a home and home that lasts for the next 6 years so our p4 is Boston College for almost a decade.
