He sounds great. The more I've been finding out about him & how pretty much everyone in the free world who's anyone in football seems to really like & respect him, I've come to absolutely believe he's the best hire we could've made at this point, but now after hearing this interview, I'm pretty excited about Hog football for the first time in years. Seems like he's got that undefinable "it" factor, & if we get a decent DC, there's no reason we shouldn't be successful. Very excited about his recruiting ability in TX. He certainly seems to be the real deal.

I think he has to prove that recruiting ability. It's obvious that his hands were somewhat tied with some of the standards at SMU, but if you look at the numbers, there wasn't a significant improvement in recruiting rankings between Jones and Morris.
I don't get all tied up in recruiting rankings, and they certainly don't always reflect the caliber of players being signed, but if we're going to hang our hat on his recruiting prowess, shouldn't there be some noticeable difference there?
Ill go find the numbers, in case what I saw posted wasn't accurate, but if it was right, it's a worry for me at least.

5th in the American
For SMU that seems pretty good to me. Way above Norvell FWIW
ETA: Not to mention, they've coached up a guy that was a 3* safety recruit to being a future first round WR draft pick in Courtland Sutton, so the development ability definitely seems to be there.

Morris is a great hire. Cole Kelly can fit into his offense just fine I think. I'm really curious to see who he gets on the other side of the ball.

Not doubting, but I still think some of this is a little troubling. Certainly enough to make you hold off on touting his recruiting ability until he actually shows us something. 24/7 numbers, fwiw.

Like Joker says, what you do with the kids once you get them is the major component here, but you would think an ace recruiter would have made some improvements, wouldn't you?

His 2018 class was 65th when he left and he wasn't done yet but I get what you're saying. I do think his reputation at Clemson should give him the benefit of the doubt though. He took over a 1-11 team in a G5 conference. That's attractive to zero recruits.

Guys, arguing over who he got to SMU is a waste of time.
He has connections to all the coaches and schools. He offered most of the current top kids in the rankings when they were in 9-10th grade.
Players want to play P5.
Take Charlie Brewer for example (LINK ) he was committed to SMU, Baylor got a new coach in Rhule and he flipped to go play P5 at a Big 12 school.
The development and growth of the offense from the 100s to top 10 is worth noting.
Taking Courtland Sutton from high school safety to 1st round draft pick as WR.
