Morris would have the best chance due to his proven track record of QB development.

Or they could be Kiffin, Drink, Heupel, Elko, etc.

Mahomes came into the league raw and was developed by Andy Reid and Alex Smith. I'd give Morris very little credit there.

Like I said, it's possible they work out, but their flash in the pan success at low levels is not a reliable indicator. Means next to nothing. They're shots in the dark

He threw for 10k yards in two years in college and was drafted top 10

Right. He's a generational talent. Arguably the best QB ever to play the game... Chad Morris could have got him drafted

Honestly kind of a condemnation of the Texas Tech staff that they got Mahomes drafted behind Mitch Trubisky.

As a KC fan I probably owe Morris some support here actually

I mean I don’t care who they hire, it’s not me writing the check, you guys think he’ll go get some top notch DC when in reality you’ll get the biggest case of nepotism you’ll ever see.

You’re delusional. Was he raw or was he the best QB prospect of all time.

It's well known that Mahomes came into the league under-polished and was taken mainly due to raw talent... Not sure I'm the delusional one.

You’re right I guess his OC and QB coach in college had nothing to do with his success.

What about Cam Ward, John Mateer, Drew Mestemaker?

Seem like decent college QBs I guess?

Cam Ward

For one he's not exactly looking that developed right now. For two, how many coaches has this dude had in his career? He spent 3 years in college with other coaches after his time with Morris. I guess we could give him 15% credit for developing a QB trending toward bust.

Mahomes without Eric Morris would be like D-Mac without Danny Nutt... exactly the same

Almost like the people only watch half the game.
Or they watch the game and get hung up on the 3-4 drives where the offense doesn't execute instead of the 10+ drives every game where the defense is comparable to wet toilet paper.

James Franklin, Dan Mullen. Those are the only names that should be competing with Petrino.

I'm not always opposed to taking a chance on an up and comer, but this year we're sitting on a known, proven commodity. If we pass up on that option, it better be for another proven winner at a high level.

Mestemaker didn’t start a game in high school and he’s a top QB in CFB his freshman season

One of the things that’s annoying to me is we go up 35-21 on MSU and we go 3 and out the rest of the game(4 drives). Yes I know the defense is arse.

Sure it's annoying, but if you need a 21 point cushion to survive the 4th quarter with the lead, your offense isn't the problem.

I'm not trying to sit here and say the offense is perfect. They clearly aren't and I've been just as frustrated at times. Yes, there have been opportunities to win games and Taylen clearly doesn't handle having to be the hero well. The issue is he's having to be the hero every single week because we simply cannot protect a lead. That's the main difference between this team and Petrino's teams as HC. We weren't scoring any more points than we are this year, but when we jumped out on somebody we could hold those leads and coast to wins. That is simply not possible this year.

The perfect example is the LSU game in 2010. People love to criticize Petrino's offense for stagnating in the 2nd half this year. We scored 10 points in the 2nd half of the 2010 LSU game after going into halftime up 21-14. The difference? The defense allowed 9 points the entire 2nd half.

Texas A&M 2010 is the exact same story. The offense scored 3 points in the 2nd half after going into halftime up 21-14. The difference? The defense only gave up 3 points in the 2nd half.

My point is when whoever we're playing is setting season-highs in points scored on a weekly basis it requires us to ask a lot out of the offense, so coming down on Petrino and that side of the ball for only scoring 35ish points any given week without the benefit of getting to play against our horrid defense just doesn't seem like a fair shake to me. Copy/paste this offense warts and all onto the vast majority of teams and they're a playoff team. Even with a defense the caliber of Kentucky's we have 2 losses max and are jockeying for a playoff spot.

Enemy #1 should be the defense. Everything else is significantly further down the list.
